  1. I'm not familiar enough the the selection process to know how guys are selected so I have no idea. I imagine if he keeps up this pace of scoring he couldn't possibly not be considered, especially because with his speed and tenacity he would fit will into a bottom 6 role on the team well. This is all assumptions though, someone more informed about the American WJC squad and selection process couls prob give you a better answer.
  2. No kidding. I loved the pick right away just because of the kids speed, tenacity and compete level. Now he's showing he's got skill and can be an offensive force! Could be a homerun for 3rd round pick.
  3. No points but he's been hitting a few posts lately?
  4. This one. Last time he was playing in the AHL he had major shoulder problems and never got going. Ya it's not good when you try and play what 6 months from the injury and still re-aggravate it. I guess the only silver lining is if he plays minimally this year and is recovering it is less likely he would get picked up in the expansion draft if he is left exposed.
  5. The hurt a lot thing comes from him being injured for most of his last stint I. North America. He's back now and injured again.
  6. Debatable... I'd consider Baertchi - Horvat - x more of a scoring line and Sutter's line more of a checking line. They've been a whole hell of a lot better though offensively and defensively so they've been getting more ice time but in my eyes a traditional 2nd line has more of a scoring role while a traditional 3rd line has more of a checking role. So personal wise Horvats line is more of a 2nd line but deployment wise Sutter's line is more of our second line. Either way the point is Rodin would take Skille's spot without a doubt
  7. Ugh. Jack Skille is on our 2nd line
  8. That's pretty slick...That second line could be deadly Sutter definitely needs to be our 3rd line center though, he's just too good in a shutdown role with the ability to score as well and so far IMO Granlund is better and more suited for wing. Sedin - Sedin - Rodin Erikson - Horvat - Boeser Baertchi - Sutter - Granlund Burrows - Gaunce - Hansen If Rodin and Boeser can come in and contribute right away we all of a sudden have some real scoring depth...Something we desperately have lacked.
  9. Schneider also was pretty bad for most of his first season in the AHL, he'll take a while to get used to pro hockey
  10. He moves so well. Did he pick up any points?
  11. I can't see him beating Tryamkin out for a spot and without seeing Larsen play it's hard to tell but I have a feeling Stetcher will outplay Larsen and be the first guy called if they feel they want a more offensive presence. If a guy like Sbisa or Gudbranson go down then Biega or Pedan would be called on I would guess. Will be great for Stetcher to get some tims in ths AHL with Green anyhow. With a lot of luck he could be our Vatanen.
  12. Juolevi definitely struggled in the second game. To me his game relies a lot on reading the play and timing. He's just going to need time to get used to the pace of pro hockey. Also I wouldn't expect much out if him offensively, he plays a very safe game.
  13. I'm with you on this one. He's small, he is useless at center because he can't win a faceoff to save his life and he adds little to nothing offensively. He has good hockey sense on the defensive end of the rink but that's about all he has to offer because he can't win board battles due to his size and doesn't contribute offensively. He's an ok 4th line player but not gritty or big enough to be a good 4th line player on an actual good team. So disconcerting that Benning looks at guys like this and thinks he is a player you can win a stanley cup with. Save the space for a rookie or a veteran presence in a leadership role.
  14. What I meant by NHL ready was he can play for our team right away, at the time management wanted Boeser to do another year in College so he isn't ready to play for our team. Also I have heard the same things about Boeser's game as Shinkaruk from fans the watch him play on the regular in that he is kinda lazy in his own end and floats around but once the pucks starts going the other way watch out. But maybe you've seen both guys play enough to make an educated opinion so fair enough. Either way it's semantics and opinions so let's put this to rest. It's a Granlund thread anyhow. That's obvious, time will tell if they were right.
  15. Lol...Your just one of those guys who has to find someway to be feel right. If McCann was in the AHL next year and Shinkaruk is in the NHL then yes McCann would be our best NHL ready prospect or If we draft Laine then he would be our best NHL ready prospect because he would almost definitely be ready to play with the big team but at the time of the trade I stand by saying Shinkaruk was our best NHL ready prospect (obviously discounting the ones that are already playing in the NHL).
  16. Well we're argueing semantics now. To me when I say Shinkaruk was our best NHL ready prospect means he was our best prospect ready to take the next step into the NHL. I'd say he's a better prospect than Gaunce, Boeser is probably going to do another year in College and those other guys are already playing in the NHL
  17. I'm just going with real world facts. Shinkaruk was our best NHL ready prospect, mostly because Boeser has already committed to another year of hockey in college but also because Shinkaruk has 2 years under Green seasoning him how to be a pro and playing against other players doing the same. Boeser has been playing against other college players while Shink has been playing against other pro players. That's my point.
  18. I can agree with that...In a couple years from now though, or if we magically make the playoffs. I'd like to see playoff Virtanen
  19. Sure but the original point was saying the Boeser is more NHL ready than Shinkaruk who has 2 full pro seasons and has 3 years of age on Boeser. Boeser has had one amazing season as a freshman in College. Boeser might be the better prospect but Shink is definitely closer to being NHL ready, he's playing for Calgary right now.
  20. For sure...but guess who we traded him for? Another 180lb small guy who lacks strength and struggles in board battles
  21. I have noticed, I'm just thinking it will be a few more years before Virtanen is genuinely a pest to play against night after night, I doubt it will happen next year. I'd like him to play in Utica under green for a year or two to learn how to be a pro. I think being in the lime light and getting all the attention in a big hockey town can get to the head of a 19 year old kid and understandably so.
  22. So your saying being successful in Collegiate hockey is equal to being successful in the AHL?
  23. I'm just amazed at how quickly people turn on a prospect after they get traded. It's all sunshine and rainbows about how great of a prospect he is and then all of a sudden it's he's bad in the D zone and will never be able to score anyway.
  24. That depends of which Virtanen you get. If you have to post World Champs motivated Virtanen then heck yes but if you have the I'm a rockstar and made the NHL so I don't really have to try Virtanen then he's not really hard to play against at all
  25. Lol..Your basing this on what? Hunter is fine is his own zone and hustles on the back check, Green criticized him once that he has a tendency to cheat a little because he is very offensive minded and wants to score goals. It's a common thing for most natural goal scorers to do and if he was still our prospect people would be happy he was that goal scoring oriented because it would be exciting to watch. I can guarantee Boeser has the same tenancies to cheat a little in the D zone with the hope of a rush going the other way to score goals. I get that, it didn't seem like there was a spot for Shink, I just can't wrap my head around the decision to trade him for Granlund. At least hold on to him until you can fetch something better or get him some games in the NHL to showcase his talents and raise his trade value. I just don't believe Granlund will ever be that much more than a weak, smallish 4th line center who can't win faceoffs. Men aged 18-22 playing collegiate hockey is a whole different ball game then Men aged 19-35 playing professional hockey.
