He did? I'd like to see that. I doubt he said it
-
But where will he break out? Sedin - Sutter - Horvat - Granlund. He'll be playing on the 4th line, yet he has terrible possession stats and FO win %. I can't get why management thought he was the right fit for this team. I guess he could be a decent 3rd line winger if he can put up some points. Hunter is 22 years old, Boeser is 19. Hunter played and was developed under Green and showed he can produce against men in a professional league. Boeser has played very well in but in University hockey against other kids. How would Boeser be closer?
-
What does before the season mean anything? The guy had 21 goals in 45 games this year, sure you could argue Demko or Boeser would be our best but he was definitely our best prospect that was close to NHL ready. Granlund 24 years old and 180lbs, he's not going to get exponentially stronger.
-
The problem for me with Granlund is that he is terrible in the faceoff circle and is a really small guy to be playing in a defensive shutdown role. We are the worst faceoff team in the league and we trade our top prospect for a guy who is a career 40% in the faceoff circle. If he lasts on this team he's going to be a 4th line center, yet he is small and terrible in the faceoffs. Not what I would want out of a 4th line center. Remember how valuable Richardson was as a 4th line guy or how valuable Malhotra was at 3rd line, winning defensive zone faceoffs and shutting down teams. Those are the role players that make successful teams.

Ya I had a lot higher hopes for Pedan as well. Would have been an awesome bottom pairing if Pedan was more responsible in his own end. Unfortunately he seems to be stuck in the middle of not being good enough offensively to make up for his defensive lapses and not good enough defensively to make up for his lack of offense.
-
Thanks. Thought that was an odd thing to want to do

You'd put a Fin on the 4th line?

I'm not too concerned about joining a conversation in a public forum...It's like when your at a party and you join in a conversation, it's pretty normal and happens all the time. But as you say it was ironic that Shinkaruk is smaller than Granlund even though you know Granlund is really small for the NHL. 180lbs might be bigger than Shink by a touch but the point is that they're both small but at least Shink has the potential to score. Anyhoo sorry if I jumped into your private conversation on this public forum
-
You were countering him saying that we need more larger players by saying that Granlund is bigger than Shink. I'm just saying that at least Shinkaruk can score (potentially) so being small isn't an issue. Granlund is just small and doesn't score and also is terrible in the faceoff dot to add more into wtf category of this trade.
-
But Granlund doesn't score......

Let's hope NT has the same legendary work ethic that Chara has. He could be a beast if he's willing to do the work off the ice.
-
Agreed. Good to see some size in the lineup, makes a difference in the board battles
-
Just you. Gotta remember how big the guy is as well, big guys always look a little slower just cause they take big strides
-
No need to rush the kid. If were lucky he'll be on the team while the Sedins are still playing though, the Sedin's setting up those sweet snipes would be a sight to behold

I really know nothing about how this works. Is this another &^@# up by management or was there no real option for them to make room for Tryamkin?
-
True enough, there is no doubt it is hard for really young players with all the pressure to come in and relax, not think and play instinctively while trying to learn to play with pro players and pro systems. The thing I find with Virtanen is when you compare him to his peers, guys like McCann or when he's in the world juniors playing with guys his age is that he looks lost and out of position more than other guys in the same situation. I almost never notice McCann looking lost in the offensive zone or just going to wrong place on the ice, but with Virtanen it's pretty often your just scratching your head wondering why he went there or did that. But like I said he is improving and maybe it will never be a strong suit of his but he has a lot to offer with his skill set and if he keeps improving then that's all a fan can hope for.
-
True, it's worrisome when a guy seems to lack instinct but he is improving I can give him that and that's all you can ask for in a young prospect.
-
He makes some nice passes with open ice for sure, for him to be more effective he needs to get better at the cycle game. He often makes a poor pass or just looks confused on where to go.
-
Too many fly bye's for Jake...Instead of finishing his checks he's doing fly bye's. Not good for a supposed power forward
-
Excellent. A couple of years under Green and a couple of years to work on his already good skating for a big guy and I think he can turn into an excellent 5-6 defenseman. Him and Petan as a 5-6 combo would be soo freaking awesome.
-
Exactly, and add Rodin into the mix of skilled guys looking for roster spots next year Boeser can take his time getting to the big leagues.
-
I don't get this, don't use the word hockey iq but yet you used it repeatedly to explain how guys like the Sedins are great, what other word would you like to use to explain how guys like the Sedins are great because they play smart and have that instinct on knowing where to go and what's going to happen? Or explain how a guy like Booth can have all the tools to be a great player but can't figure out how to use those tools. What word would you prefer because it is a thing, some players are smarter than others, some players have better instincts than others, it's nice to have a word to use for this. Please tell what word you prefer

Getting the Royal treatment, hasn't earned a spot at all but gets one so they can hopefully turn him into a guy who earns a spot next year. Must be nice to be drafted 6th overall.
-
Listing heights really doesn't say anything when talking size of player relative to effectiveness. Mason Raymond was 6feet tall, Theo Fleury was 5'9. Know what I mean? Little difference in size and effectiveness. None of those three are close to 200lbs and will have trouble in the board battles. However from what I have seen of Shink and Rodin is that they are tenacious on the puck and will cause plenty of turnovers which can makeup for lack of size, but on the NHL spectrum they are definitely small players.
-
Definitely agree, so many variables with the team right now. With Rodin looking good, Shinkaruk looking great so far this year and Baertschi starting to turn it on. All small guys though, hard to imagine all 3 being in the lineup at once. Although I don't see McCann being ready for 2nd line duty next year. Similar to Bo it's easy to get carried away after a good season and expect too much too soon. Anyone can look good in training camp, it's a whole new world once the regular season begins. I could see Sutter back on the Sedins wing though if McCann forces the coaches to play him more.
