  1. Yep. And if we're lucky we'll get pre concussion booth, if not..post concussion. I think Jakes defensive game is under rated though, at worst he will be a good third line guy
  2. I agree, his offensive game is fairly predictable. Skate fast and try and go around defender, often enough he gets stripped of the puck and turns it over leading to a rush in the other direction. I thought he made a few great plays along to boards that led to goals for Calgary. I really think Jakes defensive game is underated. For a winger his role defensively in his own zone isn't that important but he does a lot of good things, plus he is a beast on the back check and forecheck when hounding guys with the puck using his speed and size. I'm not really sold on his offensive game translating well to the NHL, skate fast shoot hard doesn't really fly that well in the NHL but his speed size and willingness to do what it takes on the defensive side of the game will serve him well going forward. Hopefully he can find a way keep getting better and progressing on the offensive side of the game and bring it come time in the bigs and be a solid 2nd line guy
  3. With any luck we can at least hope he can turn into a raffi Torres type of guy. High draft pick with good junior numbers that never was able to bring that offence to the nhl but made a great career of being a hard hitting 3rd liner. problem is you can't be a turnover machine to play in a 3rd line role. We'll see if Jake has any brains and any ability to improve his game in certain areas in the next few years.
  4. not sure how people can still be excited about this guy. Hes looking bad with junior players that are half his size and have half as much natural ability as him. How's he going to fare against nhl quality players if he looks bad against junior players
  5. I have a feeling this is going to be a theme of Jakes career.
  6. That was sarcasm. time to get your meter recalibrated
  7. Haven't you heard? He's working on his team play.
  8. That was a very good Higgins impression
  9. Yep. I think Horvat will work great with a skilled puck handler and passer. I can see that line working great with a good board guy/grinder on the other wing to cycle and dig pucks out. Hansen or Burrows. In the future I see Gaunce fitting well. Another smart guy who can dig pucks out and get it to Baertschi.
  10. It's hard to imagine a spot for Virtanen on this team especially now that we have Baertschi who won't be waiver eligible next year. Vey and Baertschi have to be on the Roster, Horvat is basically a lock and Gaunce and Jensen will be pushing hard for spots as wingers as well. That's a lot of young guys competing for spots on a team full of vets. Who knows, shinkaruk might even come to camp ready.
  11. Willy will give him another shot with an easy team on the road. Lack can't handle all the games and Markstrom needs to get back in there if he's going to get any confidence back. I bet it's sooner than expected. Can't imagine how $&!#ty he feels about himself right now. That's going to take a while to get over. If he craps the bed in his next outting it will ruin him
  12. Mattias is on the sedins wing, you really take this seriously?
  13. Seems to me Baertschi was unfortunately the first big early'ish prospect drafted by the flames after their blowup. He was over hyped and rushed resulting in too much pressure for a guy that wasn't ready. Hopefully he can regain his.confidence with a change of scenery. Obviously he's skilled but not having the mental game to go along with the skills game can be the end to any young talented guy
  14. If Gaunce keeps on improving his foot speed like he did from last year to this year I really can't see how he wouldn't end up being at least a good third line winger. He's got the size and smarts. He's a mature individual so he's got all the tools he needs to succeed. His big limiting factor was his speed and intensity, if he improves those like he has in one season he's going to be a great pro player
  15. Problem is that in today's nhl you won't get playing time if you don't play a structured reliable game unless you start putting up points as soon as you come into the league. There's no guarantee Virtanen will be an elite point producer, if he can be relied on in a 3rd line role he can slowly learn the NHL game and become a great scorer. Otherwise he has to be good enough right away to play in a scoring role or he won't get playing time
  16. I really hope he doesn't get traded. of all our prospects I see him as being the most likely to be packaged up with a roster player for an upgrade on the 2nd line. I'd really like to see how him stay a Canucks prospect and watch him develop. I can see him being a fantastic 3rd line winger in the future. Smart, big and has shown vast improvements in his speed which was his biggest knock. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if he makes it. I thought he was way too slow. Looking like a great player to be.
  17. Have you watched him play? If you have you've seen how much better he has been in the last 10 games. Stating some bs about corsi and he hasn't actually been good is so annoying. Who cares about corsi when you can just watch him play and see that he is playing great and most importantly developing way faster than anyone expected.
  18. He definitely doesn't seem to be a coaches favorite type of playe. Gets the opposite of special treatment
  19. Finding his groove and being a lot better than most expected. Good signs for his future. I was mightily impressed with his improved speed during preseason. with his size and intelligence he can be a player if he can keep Improving on his speed and acceleration
  20. One thing I hope the Canucks consider next year is the risk of injury to virtanen if he stays with the club. For a young guy who plays such a physical game to all of a sudden be playing against large men vs boys could be a recipe for injuries. I'd say let his body and game slowly develop in juniors then the AHL to maximize his talent and production throughout his peak and career.
  21. Ya your probably right, those extra two months will make all the difference.
  22. Thankyou. I never heard the quote myself so I just assumed guys were taking it out of context. This makes more sense. Jake is an extremely raw talent, everything he has going for him is based on his physical abilities. To excel in the Nhl one needs to be able to play structured and be sounds defensively and back check hard. Jake needs to improve in all aspects of these and that doesn't happen in just a year.
  23. Lol. Of course benning is going to pump his prospects. There is no way an 18 year old Virtanen makes the Canucks roster next year.
  24. From what I've seen of Jake he's a good 3-4 years from being an NHL player. He isn't like Horvat where he understands how to play the game properly. He needs a lot of coaching on his positional play and decision making.
