  1. That's an easy way to spin your pro Ehlers banter Absent. If your going to compare Ehlers to someone who is his absolute potential highest ceiling in Kessel than don't put Ritchie down by comparing him to Lucic who he is nothing like except for big and fights. If Ehlers equals Kessel then Ritchie equals Jaime Benn. At least it would be a close pick to have either Kessel or Benn
  2. Guess all I remember of Bert is him floating around the ice until he got the puck. Then magic.
  3. Ya I can kind of see the Bert comparison. Bert seems like so much more of a set up guy than Ritchie and a slower skater. Could just be the way they look when skating against NHL'rs vs. Junior player. You don't think Benn is a good comparison?
  4. Bernier had over 100pts in the qmjhl in his draft year. Pierre-Marc bouchard had 140pts in the Q in his draft year and never really amounted to that much (couple 60pt seasons). So what Ehlers also put up 100pts. Judging a player solely in the quantity of points he put up in Junior to prove he will be a guaranteed success in the NHL is flawed. Looking at everything that player does and relating it to whether it will translate to the NHL is better than posting statistics. Not saying Ehlers is a bad pick at 6 but stating that he put up 100pts isn't a worthy argument for justifying the pick.
  5. But you've watched him extensively? Doubt it. You can take any prospect big or small and compare them to a prospect that was highly touted and failed in the NHL. Sure Pyatt failed. So did Gagner who put up huge numbers or Brulé. Does that mean Ehlers or Nylander will be the same? Most pro scouts have Ritchie right in the 6-8 spot. I'll trust them over some internet blowhard who states his opinion like fact.
  6. Anyone who compares him to Lucid or Getzlaf hasn't seen him play. He doesn't play at all like GetLaf and he is way more skilled then Lucic but not nearly as aggressive. The best comparison is Jaime Benn but a better fighter. Big skilled, good skater, bulls his way to the net. He's equally as good of a playmaker as a goal scorer. Plays a fast transitional game. Comparing him to Getzlaf is just wrong, Lucic way wrong. Nash just sucks and is just a good one on one guy so not him either but Benn is a great comparison.
  7. very single one of the left over big 4 has a glaring weakness that could make or break their NHL careers. It's up to the Canucks scouting staff to basically guess which prospect is most likely to overcome this weakness. Virtanen - all the tools but does he have the tool box for the next level? Ritchie - is he just another big guy that dominates juniors? Ehlers - so small and not much room to fill in Nylander - Is he just another soft skilled perimeter playing Euro? I wouldn't want to be the guy making the choice, all have the skills and potential to be elite yet all have the potential to be almost complete busts.
  8. If there is one poster who's opinion I respect the most here it's theministers. He's actually watched and evaluated the prospects and gives objective reports and reasons behind liking or disliking certain aspects of prospects. You sir are out to lunch
  9. Just watched a Calgary Hitmen Vs Saskatoon Blades game and I gotta say I really hope that was just a terrible game from Virtanen. With Scherbak playing on the other side of the ice it was easy to compare how much impact each player had for his respected team. The biggest thing I noticed is that all offense flowed through Scherbak, he was always in the right place to get the puck or receive the pass and his teammates used him. When he was on the ice you would always hear his name at least twice a shift. Whereas Virtanen wouldn't be heard from for long periods of the game and even when he was open for a pass his teammates seemed reluctant to use him probably in fear the play would die on his stick. He really does not have great hockey sence playing without the puck. Once Virtanen is in the open with the puck he does great things but if he can't dominate juniors and really be able to exploit the smaller less talented players and be the focal point for his teams offense like a guy like Scherbak who is supposed to go mid round to even mid 20s, then I'd be really concerned how Virtanen will be able to use his skills to his advantage at the next level. IMO he doesn't have the hockey sense to find the open ice and use his elite speed and shot to his advantage. Maybe I watched a terrible game of his and will watch more to see but I'm very wary of a Virtanen selection. That being said if a Kesler trade is happening to a team in the later picks of the 1st round I hope its Scherbak we take, he looked incredibly impressive.
  10. Pretty wild how evenly divided the votes are between Ritchie, Virtanen, Ehlers and Nylander. Going to be a very controversial pick if one of the big 5 don't fall to us
  11. Its hard to believe that you've actually watched Ritchie play when you say he'll be a "lumbering giant" when it comes to getting around the ice. While I agree that Virtanen is a better skater and is more aggressive Ritchie is certainly not a slow skater but is in fact a great skater especially for a guy his size. Big guys that can skate as well as Ritchie don't come along often, add excellent puck skills, a NHL caliber shot and great playmaking I see Ritchie ahead of Virtanen who is a decent pick with his great size spees and shot but is too one dimensional in his game where as Ritchie has those tools but adds better overall offensive skills and smarts.
  12. I'd say mike fisher is a fair projection to what Bo Horvats career potential is. People need to realize low end is a 3rd or 4th line guy like Brad Richardson, Bo was a 10th overall pick and wasn't expected to go so high. Not every top ten pick become a great NHL player. He has a great overall game but has average skating and decent puck skills. We will see how this translates the the NHL. His high end could definitely be a Patrice Bergeron or Ryan O'Reilly but his expectations need to be tempered for what he will most likely bring to the table.
  13. Thank you Bergeron is a 50-60 pt. Centerman, that is not Bo Horvats low end potential.
  14. It's Richie's blend of size and skill that makes him valuable. It's not just a big guy like lucic that fights and hits or a skilled guy like Ehlers. Your review of him was fair and showed you actually watched him play however it was obvious you were only look at his negatives as your blatantly pro Virtanen. You don't draft Richie to fight and hit like a Lucid clone. That's not his thing. You turn the fact that he is big but does not involve himself in scrums, fight very often or skate around looking for huge hits a negative. He's a skilled guy that is relied upon to score goals not goon it up or crash and bang like a 4th liner. Richie is big like Jaime Benn, bulls his way to the net. Great at winning puck battles on the boards, sheilds the puck well and will easily knock guys off the puck when on defense. There is so much more to being a big guy than just fighting and hitting. While your right when saying Ritchie doesn't back check well or tends to go straight to his sweet spot to look for a shot, you failed to mention all the other elite parts of Ritchie's game. Big guys with skill that can skate and think the game well are what teams need to compete and win puck battles especially come playoffs
  15. Have you watched much Nylander though? Not so easy to view the euro games. I can see the criticism of Ehlers being permiter as you've obviously had plenty of chances to watch and analyze his play but have you really seen Nylander enough to warrent the same criticism?
  16. I actually really like that lineup. The 3rd and 4th line are great. If Jensen takes takes the next step and the Sedins have a comeback year so we actually have a top line then with a half decent 2nd line and good depth it's a good lineup. That said Dal Colle is too skinny still to be effective at the NHL level IF he falls to us. That's a BIG if
  17. Great review of Virtanen. I'd be really concerned about his one dimensional game translating into the NHL. Defenders are too good to just skate in and score off the rush. I've heard from a few different sources now how he is frustrating to watch because he will shoot almost every time rather than make a play or a pass.
  18. For sure. As a Canuck fan and having the highest pick since the sedins I'd rather take a shot at elite high end talent than just a solid player.
  19. Watched a few games. Just feel out of the big 5 Bennett has the lowest ceiling. I see him as being a good second line player, where Dal Colle, Reinhart, Draitle, and Ritchie have the potential to be top line players.
  20. Talking about a hunch I have that Bennett will be the one that falls out of the top 5.
  21. Was referring to the series the played head to head and the games I watched. Just a hunch from what I've personally seen from Bennett not just stat watching.
