  1. I got a feeling it will be Bennett that drops. Got completely outplayed by Ritchie in the playoffs. I would be kinda bummed if he's the guy to fall out of the top 5. Not all impressed my his game.
  2. This is funny stuff. I love hearing the inside scoop from people who know guys personally. That being said being a clown or partier or prick didn't stop guys like patty Kane or Corry Perry from being elite NHL players.
  3. I think its a mistake drafting based on team needs rather than BPA. At least half of those guys will probably not make the NHL or have any real impact. Nylander isn't the obvious best player available. He may have the best puck skills but Richie or Virtanen are easily as good of players with different skill sets, they just happen to be big as well. Nylander could be a great pick but looking at our team or our prospects shouldn't decide who to pick.
  4. I agree with this.Should be interesting for sure. Do they publish the combine results?
  5. His skill level is absolutely better than Kassians in every category except playmaking. Ritchie's shot has been described as best in the draft class. Kassian has a decent shot but rarely uses it. Ritchie is an excellent skater. Kassian is an average skater Ritchie is great on the rush and loves to attack the net. Kassian likes to pull up and make a pass. IMO they are totally different players and shouldn't be compared. Kassian is a play making puck distributer. Ritchie is a goal scoring sniper that goes to the net and finishes. They could be an absolute force together really. Why wouldn't you want two big power forwards on your team that hit, fight and score.
  6. Drafting for a player that the team needs right now is silly. Who knows what the teams needs will be in 3-5 years when these propects are ready to make an actual impact in the NHL...Factor in most players don't really start to peak until 25/26 which is 6 years after they are drafted you most definitely have to go BPA..
  7. And Ritchie plays like Jaime Benn/Rick Nash...........It's a guessing game which propect is going to fulfill their potential
  8. Why wouldn't you want Mantha? He plays like Jeff Carter.
  9. Perlini just doesn't have as good of physical tools as Virtanen or Ritchie. While he puts points on the board he doesn't stand out like Ritchie or Virtanen do.
  10. This statement is just so wrong. On the ice he has as good or better skating and acceleration than almost every player on the ice. He is WAY above average when it comes to guys his size, he has absolutely elite skating for a big man, and it's not just straight line speed either. He has great edge work allowing him to cut to the middle of the ice with ease going full pace. Dustin Byfuglien is the only other big man I can think of that skates as well as Ritchie.
  11. Just rewatched a Peterborough vs Kingston game and gotta say Ritchie is the real deal. Watching Ritchie play in the same game as potential 1st overall pick Sam Bennett and completely outplay him make you realize that he must be picked with that 6th overall pick. I've watched Peterborough play Kingston before and Ritchie outplayed Bennet then as well so it's not just a one off game. A few plays really stood out for me watching the game. One was when Bennett was in full flight going down the wing with the puck. Ritchie easily caught up with him and dumbied him off the puck, took control and turned the puck up the ice. This is a 230lb kid catching up a player who could be a 1st overall pick and making him just look silly. Now Ritchie definitely does have flaws in his game but I just don't think the Canucks can pass on the package that he brings. Pros: - amazing skater for his size. Has top end speed, has great acceration and even has great lateral edge work that get him to the center of the ice with ease. When he's on the ice he is noticably the best skater out there. - Gets the puck to the net. Whether he's carrying the puck, shooting or passing he's always getting the puck to a dangerous area near the net. Makes great passes, really underated playmaking ability. - His shot is obviously his greatest weapon, shoots from an odd angle that seems to confuse goalies. Gets it off quickly and accurately. -Great on the rush, attacks the net and is crafty with his shot angles, not something that easily will translate to NHL success as goals off the rush seem to rare because defenders are so great with gap control and getting sticks in the lane. Cons: - Defensive game needs work. Too focused on his being offensive, cleared the zone way too early a few time and made some bad plays in his own zone - Like a lot of big guys he doesn't have the greatest stop start speed. Does the flyby a lot rather than stopping and attempting to engage. Reminded me of watching Bertuzzi when he would do this. - Not the greatest puck handler, puck is usually on and off his stick pretty quickly. I wouldn't go as far as saying its a fault to his game but is definitely not his strong point. I really think the Canucks can't go wrong with picking Ritchie, I can understand being wary about picking a guy his size due to the assumption that he won't be able to do the same against men his same size. But truly when you see him outshine guys like Bennett you can see how he's going to be something special, you just don't see big guys like him skate and make plays like he does. He's is more Jaime Benn than Milan Lucic btw, he's a million times better skater than a guy like Steve Bernier or Taylor Pyatt so I really don't think he has the potential to be like those guys who were highly touted because of their size but basically failed in the NHL. For the guys who want Virtanen, while I don't think he would be a bad pick I think Ritchie does what Virtanen does just with more size, hockey smarts and playmaking ability. Both guys are big, great skaters with a great shot that know how to put the puck in the net. Ritchie is just a little bit bigger and a little bit better at the other things in his game. He's really a special player.
  12. My guess it's because he's just not as exciting or intriguing as prospects like Ritchie (huge and can skate). Ehlers, Nylander or Kapenen who are the dynamic skilled forwards or Virtanen who's plays that fast aggressive game. I watched a game when Peterborough played Perlini's team. Ritchie was an absolute standout and I barely noticed Perlini until he scored. But even though Ritchie looked more exciting Perlini put up more points. To me he seems like the kind of player that just knows where to go and what to do to put points on the board, so he doesn't get the attention that other prospects get but who knows. Maybe that quality will make him the best NHL'r out of the bunch.
  13. Have you seen him play much? Just curious if he does use his size to bully around junior players for points as much as you say. I watched him only a few times on TV and I I didn't noticed his size being the main reason he's putting up points. I saw a big guy who really impressed me with how quickly and efficiently he skates and gets around the ice. He seems to know where to go and get there quick, add a huge frame and a great shot I see potentially great NHL player. I see Jaime Benn all over him and would be happy that the Canucks draft him. However that is in a very limited sample size and I definitely am not any sort of scout.
  14. I'm on the Nylander wagon for sure. One thing the Canucks lack in their lineup and in their prospect depth is guys with elite puck skills. Having a guy that can dangle and create space with the puck is a huge necessity for the nucks. I feel like Gillis is going to continue with the Size and speed train with Ritchie, Virtanen, or Tuch. Not bad picks but if Nylander is available he could be a huge steal.
  15. You watch the game or just going by stats? Interested to get a breakdown of how he played tonight
  16. I'd really like to see him play with the comets this year. He showed such potential in the few games I saw him play. Would be amazing to see him come back healthy and try it again. He's 23 now though, wonder if he's put on much size because I don't think he has a shot an the NHL unless he reaches 190lbs or so.
