Dahlen just hasn't looked good at all. Really timid out there. Hopefully it's just a confidence thing because I haven't seen an NHL level player in him yet.

Ya Olli is such a funny one to get a read on. On one hand he's making great reads and intercepting passes and breaking up plays. On the other hand he seems to be on the ice quite a bit for quality chances against and it's showing with his -7. So hard to judge how he's going to fair in the NHL. He does so many good things but also just seems to look slow out there often. Kinda reminds me of Edler out there, unfortunately closer to old Edler rather than young Edler

2018-19 Utica Comets Thread

Other people have sound on AHL live? I've got nothing -
Ya they've definitely given up on Gaunce. It's too bad as I see him as a good cheap 4th line player. Sure he doesn't score but he's good at keeping the puck out of his own net and that's what you want out of a 4th line player

Nhl network top 50 prospects includes 4 canucks

You forgot to mention Svechnikov, the guy is one of the best players to come out of Russia since Malkin/Ovy. Be hard to take Pettersson or Hughes over him. I do agree with taking Hughes over anyone else though except maybe Heiskenan. He is going to be a true #1 D, I think Hughes will be much more dynamic offensively but Heiskenan will be a solid 2 way guy like Roman Josi or something. Pretty equal -
While I 100% agree that Pettersson would be better suited to playing on the wing to start his career the one thing I worry about would be how often to player that come into the league as center but start at wing because they are too small transition back to center? It's a tough league to learn how to play any position and to learn how to play wing then be given the leeway to learn center after a few years doesn't seem to happen. Happened with Reinhardt and Nylander. Can't think of any other players that switched back to center after startng at the winger spot. That would be my only concern about starting Pettersson at the wing, we need him to be a center eventually.

IIRC I think Benning was asked the question again and he said they did have Zadina ranked ahead of Hughes. Not positive about that though. If I had to guess it would be something like Dahlin Svechnikov Zadina Hughes Kotkaniemi Dobson Hayton 2 centers in the top 7. Tkachuck or Wahlstrom may be in there instead of Dobson. Just guessing at this point though.

I think unfortunately Gaudette is going to be the odd man out with the Beagle signing. I can't see him starting his career as a 2nd line center and I can't see Sutter being on anything remotely representing a scoring line. Unless he plays wing which I doubt, might as well having him play a more important center role in Utica Bottom 2 lines I see Roussell - Sutter - Virtanen Gaunce - Beagle - Schaller Top 2 lines then could be something like Bae - Bo - Eriksson Dahlen - Pettersson - Boeser Or have Eriksson play in the bottom 6 and have Goldobin or Gagner (ew) up there. I'd like to see Granlund and Gagner off the starting roster this season. Beagle, Rousell and Schaller make them fairly redundant. Gagner could player 2nd line center if Pettersson isn't ready though. Just too bad he sucks so much

2018 Canucks Summer Development Camp

Thought Palmu and Woo were the real standouts out there. Was to be expected from a guy like Palmu who has pro experience. Woo really impressed me with his smart short transition passes. Safe passes that send the forwards on the rush, nothing long and fancy but he made a few passes that showed a deft touch and intelligence. Also did quite well at getting the puck on net from the point. Looking forward to watching him develop Other guys that did well were Madden and Rathbone. Madden showing his hockey IQ and being in the right place offensively and defensively and Rathbone showed off his great skating Didn't really notice Gunnerson or Utonen that much Thought Lind had a bit of a rough game, quite a few turnovers trying to be too fancy or forcing an extra pass. Hughes didn't really impress until it was 4v4 or 3v3, I don't think he was really trying out there though. Nice to watch the prospects in action -

Love the idea of a Juolevi - Hughes pairing, impossible to set up a forecheck on. I think Rathbone is going to be our next 5th round steal and in 3 years will be in the top 4 Juolevi - Hughes Rathbone - Woo Tryamkin - Stecher Breisbois

Kid sounds very similar to Lockwood. Small and feisty, lets hope one of them fill out and become solid NHL players
-
Hopefully Hughes and Juolevi can make a dominant 1st pairing. Both guy excel at retrieving the puck and getting it out of the zone quickly, Juolevi is really good at drawing in forwards and deferring the puck to his D partner so I could see him working really well with an elite skater and puck mover like Hughes. Hughes also said he can play both sides so even though they are both lefties they could be a pairing

Ya I'm giddy as well. I watched a Michigan game this year against Gaudette and the Huskies before I had done any real research of Hughes and at the time wasn't really into drafting such a small defenseman, I assumed he was just another small offensive defenseman that wows with dangles but doesn't do any of the little things and doesn't really defend well so I was looking to confirm my bias against him. Boy was I wrong and changed my tune after watching that, the guy is truly elite in his defensive work to go along with his offensive game. He'll get overwhelmed sometimes down low I'm sure like we occasionally see happen to Stecher but his ability to defend in the open ice will more than make up for a few of his size shortcomings.
-
Ya I get the feeling that Benning will grab a center as well. If Mcleod is still there I could see Benning taking him. I'd love to grab One of Wilde Samuelsson or McIsaac though.
-
Benning said it's up to Hughes if he wants to go back to College or try and make the team or go to the AHL
-
Hasn't made the decision yet.
-
I don't think I've ever seen our fan base be so unanimously happy with a draft pick. Is this real life?
-
Nope. Noel and Mcleod seem like the biggest fallers available right now.

Body Wilde D, 6'2 198 Ranked 25 on Mckenzie's list Adam Ginning D, 6'4 206 Hopefully we snag another solid D prospect
-
I really don't think anyone is going to be complaining about his defensive skills once they see him play. It really is one of his best attributes, while he may be small he uses his elite skating and awareness to shut down attackers. Being small he'll get overwhelmed down low occasionally but I think he'll make up for that with his ability to makes defensive plays in the open ice. He really is elite defensively.
-
I think there could be a chance he is a 7th D. I mean rotating in and out of the lineup with Hutton while getting his feet wet in the NHL isn't the worst thing ever. If no injuries happen within the first couple months giving him a full time spot then ya send him down for more playing time but I could see him being a 7th defenseman that rotated in and out of the lineup every few games for the start of the season.
-
I could see that being a really good pairing. Stecher is smart enough and good enough with the puck to completent Juolevi well. They'd be a hard pairing to forecheck against.
-
100%..... I'm just saying I'd temper expectations about how soon he will be excelling. Might be this year, but it could very well be the year after or even the year after that.
