(Report) Alain Vigneault to retire from coaching
Slegr replied to RWJC's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I really enjoyed AV. He seemed like he was regularly having fun out there. I remember there was a point where the Canucks were sucking, and while in Ottawa, when the fun was seemingly getting drained from the team, I think he had them all take a fun skate around the river instead of a regular practice. He’s right behind Pat Quinn as far as my favourites. Maybe he’ll support the Canucks in some capacity… new colour commentator? -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

I hope the guy doesn’t get drafted to go to war. He’d be an easy target out there. -

[Signing] Canucks sign Carson Soucy

Our defense is looking very solid. That’s how teams win. Next year could be a really solid step forward. -
Canucks release 2023-24 preseason schedule
Slegr replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
So no preseason game in Victoria, even though they're having their training camp in Victoria? That's a disappointment. -
I'm not entirely sold on that.

No thank you. Too small, too average. Big hearts and good intentions do not necessarily translate to success in NHL. They just make you cheer and feel sorry for the guy who can't keep the puck out of his own net.

[Signing] Leafs sign Reaves
Slegr replied to Drive-By Body Pierce's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They're trying to focus on anything other than the disappearance of guys who they traded for, like O'Rielly and Schenn, recognizing the team is going nowhere fast. -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return
Slegr replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Bring in Tryamkin! I might just have to go and get a jersey with his name if they do. We’d have some instant intimidation factor on our blue line, where we currently have none. -
Canucks release 2023-24 regular season schedule
Slegr replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Okay, so I just looked closely at the schedule, each game, and imagined the Canucks state of mine for each one, given how much time off there is between games and distance travelled. Based on my best calculations, I feel this could be the year we go 82-0-0. You heard it here first, folks. #winning -
Canucks release 2023-24 regular season schedule
Slegr replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
God the NHL hates us. What will it take to get a bit home stretch in October for once? Or even a 50/50 split of home and road? Why must we wait until March before our longest home stretch? (After the team needs to decide whether to make any big trade deadline moves). -
Well well. Seems like everyone is wanting out of Calgary these days. The Calgary Flames have made forward Tyler Toffoli available for a trade, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. The Flames are in the midst of a shakeup, after having missed the Stanley Cup playoffs this past season. The team has already brought in a new GM in Craig Conroy and a new head coach in Ryan Huska. Toffoli, 31, has played the past two seasons with the Flames after he was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens during the 2021-22 season. He has one season remaining on his four-year, $17 million contract. The Scarborough, Ont., native picked up 73 points (34 goals, 39 assists) in a full 82-game season in 2022-23. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/flames-make-tyler-toffoli-available-for-trade/

[Report/Rumour] Elias Pettersson Contract Talks
Slegr replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Exactly this. How can we be supporting the Florida teams in revenue sharing when they’re also benefiting from being a destination of choice by the players because of the low taxes? They can’t have it both ways. -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

With Bear injured, I’m hearing Canucks and Tryamkin camps are currently talking. but of course, I’m hearing out of my butt again, so there’s that. -

I kind of hope we find a way to extend Petey in the next week or two, as it sounds like Toronto is hell-bent on signing Awesome Nostrils before end of month, which means it’ll be for a massive amount of dollars on relatively short term, because he has them by the balls right now, and even though the two players aren’t particularly comparable, it’ll mess the market up much worse than it is, and will impact what we sign Petey for. -

If it came down to someone like Bear or Tryamkin, I’d take Tree 100 percent of time. This teams needs size and toughness. -
Every playoffs we see it, except our GMs are probably vacationing then. Big, mean teams go far. We continue to be small and polite. We have a coach who knows what it will take. Hopefully he’ll have some heavy influence with decisions around our future acquisitions.

Such a strange year. We’ve only seen 3 games in each conference finals, but now we already know it’s Panthers Vs Golden Knights. One of those two teams wins the cup this year. That means the list of current teams to have never won cup goes from 13 to 12, with one of the teams that came after the Canucks getting to enjoy the cup before us. Lame. Please not the Knights.
