  1. I’m not an expert on it, but I imagine it would be pretty hard to assess a concussion when so much of it is felt by an individual- if they’re not being honest, a medical expert wouldn’t have much else to go on, short of someone outright vomiting when asked to perform in certain ways.
  2. You might think I’m stretching, but I honestly believe Ferland didn’t feel 100% when he signed his contract, probably lied to any medical examiners realizing this is his one big chance at a big money deal, hoped he would get better in time for Canucks training camp, didn’t get better, missed most of camp, came in looking off, and early on, realized he wasn’t well, picked a fight with Clifford, didn’t really get hit in the head, but used that fight as the reason he now had a “concussion” that he had already been harbouring prior to contract signing. He then tried multiple times to come back, and left early each time, without needing to pick a fight - the concussion symptoms had just never fully left from when he was with Carolina. Never underestimate what someone will do for millions of dollars to support their family.
  3. There sure has been a lot of love for Ferland on this thread and in general in the Canuck community. I can’t say I’ve got as heartfelt opinion on it. Sure, I’m glad that he, as a human, is taking the right course of action for his injury. But as a fan of the Canucks, my biased lens has noted the following: - Ferland being Canucks enemy #1 in a postseason against the Flames where he illegally crushed Bieksa and company every chance he could with charges and seemingly went unnoticed by refs and caused enough chaos to help bounce us from the playoffs; - Ferland signing a massive deal with the Canucks when his health was still in question but he maintained he was concussion-free - Ferland not attending his first days as a Canuck in training camp because he was “sick” -Ferland finally joining the team late in training camp but looking off -Ferland getting concussed continuously with the Canucks, on seemingly very minimal head contact plays. Each attempt to come back usually ends about a shift or two into games, leaving the Canucks short numbered for the remainder of games. - Ferland trying again to come back in the post-season bubble, and having to leave partly through a game Yes, I’m clearly biased, and again, I’m glad he’s taking a healthy route for himself, but as a Canuck fan, I see a guy who singlehandedly crushed us in a post season, joined us on a long, expensive deal when I’m guessing he knew he wasn’t fully healthy, disrupted our team chemistry and left us short handed a plenty each time he would try to insert himself back in the lineup (probably driven by his own guilt for signing a contract in somewhat bad faith) and now has hampered the team slightly by keeping him on long term injured reserve rather than having his full cap hit to use in the off-season - we have to wait until the season officially starts before we can touch his LTIR. He’s screwed this team about as much as a player can, and fans are like “I sure am glad to see he’s making the right choice.. he’s so great.” The Canucks may have been Ferland’s retirement plan all along.
  4. Players be like, “I don’t play for the name on the back of my shirt. I play for the corporate sponsor logo on the left chest of the front!”
  5. That seems too much for that short of term for Petey. I’d think more like 6.5 for 3 yrs with him, but I really hope they sign for longer.
  6. Another piece in place. This will be a fun team to watch.
  7. Man, as much as I love the Sedins, I do wish they had a bit more pushback. They put up with this kind of stuff their whole career… but doesn’t a big part of me want to see them clock somebody for it? Yes please.
  8. Negotiating with terrorists seems like a smart thing. Biden sure messed this situation up something bad.
  9. Pretty cool. Maybe a tad long, but really we’ll done. I thought the Gaudette leaving part could come out. He’s so yesterday. Thanks for sharing.
  10. I wish we’d go back to those sexy 91 jerseys for every game. They’re Petey’s favourite - why don’t we commit to it, as it may help contract negotiations.
  11. I’m not a fan of those quotes at all. I like Petey - he is such a great player for us. And I don’t want to make too much out of those comments, but they do come off as that kind of new generation entitlement. Old fashioned players would realize they’re part of a team, and to win means focusing on doing your part better. New age entitlement feels like “if the team isn’t winning for me, I’m going somewhere that does win”. I don’t want to question Petey’s loyalty but I hope he doesn’t make any more soundbytes like that.
  12. Can’t argue with that. It’s like when Cloutier in the coaching system… if he didn’t work well on the ice, why are we trying him as a coach?
  13. I have really liked Juolevi’s game so far. I’m really not sure why he didn’t receive more playing time earlier. He should be a solid #5 guy out there. Nice deal.
  14. - Motte to get injured and miss half the season - Hughes and Petey to miss training camp because of contract negotiations and get off to slow start - Garland to lead team in goals - Myers to lead team in PIM - Louie Erikkson, Roussel, and Beagle to all get points when playing us - Canucks to get into playoffs with Wildcard spot and win the cup
  15. Do you guys think both Hughes and Petey’s contracts will be announced at the same time? Or is there a chance one might sign first and the other continue to negotiate? I hope they haven’t made some sort of signing bond, where they won’t do it until they’re both satisfied, like when the actors from Friends didn’t sign until all six of them were getting $1M / episode. Petey seems the more reasonable one to me, and less likely to get too greedy. I’d make him the priority, given he is subject to other offers. Pretty tough when they both have the same greedy agent though.
  16. Sometimes I’m feeling like, Benning just do what you need to do to get these two signed. Then I’m like, no, wait, have patience and get a good deal locked in. Don’t be no fool!
  17. Not only that, but $70k US in Canada is like $88K, plus far fewer taxes on that in the US, translating to more take home money. He’ll be ok.
  18. I suppose that might be true - but how many of us would really want to work with our siblings every day? Count me out of that daydream.
  19. Congrats to Demko. I personally hope they wait a few years before any kids. Parents know… sleepless nights, focus disappears, even for guys in this day and age. The window is now, Canucks! Before Demko has any kids!
  20. I’d suggest this rant has racist components and dangerously generalizing. Clean up the act there RUS.
  21. Triple P line! Cool analysis. Still, something doesn’t feel right about Pearson on the top line and Boeser on a third line. But the rationale is ok. Maybe TG will read this thread and give it a try.
  22. The Canucks generally have a hard time staying healthy in any season, let alone an Olympic one. How do you think the impact of the Winter games (assuming NHLers are able to play) will impact our season? Petey slowed down a lot towards the end the last time he had a full season. Given our mix of international players, a good number of Canucks will likely be competing for medals. Will the risk of injury, the extra travel to Beijing and the additional wear and tear of intense Olympic games be too much of a drain on some key players for us to have late season success? Or will the emotional highs and enhanced, competitive play help inspire our key players down the stretch?
  23. There’s some truth here. It takes all types to win the Cup. I must say Petey has certainly shown more pushback than the Sedins. I could even see him getting in a fight or two at some point.
  24. The combo of him as a Canuck would mean a near life suspension the next chance the NHL would get.
  25. I’m liking the lineup. If we stay healthy, this could be a very enjoyable year.
