[Suspended 1 Game] MacEwen to have hearing for kneeing Oilers' Nurse

Warriors Wanted (for Canucks' GM to post this summer)
Slegr replied to Slegr's topic in Canucks Talk
This kind of mentality is what fans seem to be conditioned towards these days. This is the NHL - it’s supposed to be a physical game, not ballet. The team has all summer to get healthy again. Why would we care most about hoping players stay safe and don’t get injured? I care more about the team showing needed pushback, some feistiness, gaining some much needed respect across the league as a tough team to play against, who has each other’s backs. -

Exactly. I’m still bothered that we let one of our future ring-of-honour defensemen Alex Edler gave bullied into a fight like that without anybody else going hard at anyone on Toronto. The Canucks of old would have had more to say about it. I don’t mind the fact we’re not skilled enough yet to beat teams, but I hate how we’re not tough enough to beat teams. -

This has nothing to do with Covid, etc. Call me old fashioned, but this is simply about wanting more grit, toughness and pushback in the lineup. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy watching the top end talent like Hughes, Petey and Boeser. But one of the areas our GM has failed us, in my mind, is bringing in and securing some guys who pushback, are big, and nasty. We’ve tried with Ferland, and it looked okay with Tryamkin until recently. But we are a small team. Our elite forwards are smaller and less feisty than most other teams elite forwards. Our defense basically has Hamonic in terms of relatively tough guys, and the rest of our forwards don’t play with that edge. Maybe Virtanen showed signs, but even his fate is unknown. I like my Coffee Crisp and I like my hockey snarly. I grew up on Momesso, Jovo-cop, even Linden, a captain who consistently plastered opponents into the boards a few times a game. I want some more of that. -

I remember Eager doing something similar to Bieksa back in the day -

[Suspended 1 Game] MacEwen to have hearing for kneeing Oilers' Nurse

Sadly, this is true. McDavis a big boy, and our team is small. It really is. That’s why it sucks seeing Tryamkin gone. We are in desperate need of more size and grit. -
[Suspended 1 Game] MacEwen to have hearing for kneeing Oilers' Nurse

Exactly. They show a freeze frame of it on Sportsnet. Its hardly a grazing. His chin was already bloodied from the hit, and Nurse was embarrassed because his attempted hit gave him a face plant. Canucks need to stand up and fight this, even though it’s only a game, because it gives MacEwan and underserving “history” now when it comes to suspensions. -

Watching that replay, his chin was clearly cut during the body check impact before big mac’s knee hardly grazes him. -

Nurse scuba-diving moments before the knee-to-the-chops. You stay on your feet and the knee can’t reach your head like that. -

The one that really annoys me and is found everywhere is when THAT is used instead of WHO, like: it was a boy that threw the ball. The media and musicians are especially guilty with that one. -
Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the straw that breaks the camel's back. Some say Willy's poor handling of Tryamkin is what finally got him canned. Maybe Jimbo will end the same way.

Ack, Erikkson is one team injury away to getting back in the lineup. -
What do people think are the odds of Woo playing in the big league next season? With Tryamkin out of the picture now, the defense needs a shot-in-the-arm of toughness. I’d think that gives Woo an advantage. He’s still young, but it might be his time to shine in October.

That’s a good point about him signing for two years in Russia. At least we know he won’t be signing with the Flames in 2022 and flattening our forwards nightly. Maybe in 2023.

[GDT/PGT] Vancouver Canucks @ Toronto Maple Leafs l May 1, 4 p.m. l SNP
Slegr replied to -SN-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Fact of the day: did you know... we are currently LAST place in our division??! Sure, we have played fewest games, but based on our play lately, I have a hard time imagining another win this season. -
Well, that about sums up this season for sure. Tryamkin may not be perfect, but he would have helped a lot in terms of making teams think twice about what they just did to one of our future ring-of-honour players Alex Edler the other night. I have lost faith in this management team. Benning can go. Green can go. Too much incompetence and poor asset management going on.

He’s the type of guy we want to move forward with. Canadian power winger who’s not afraid to drop the gloves. Looking forward to seeing him.
