  1. Chris Stewart is over 230, Joel Ward is just under and of course Milan Lucic is over 230 as well. In Ritchie's case he needs to drop some fat, but by some accounts he still has room to add to his frame. He probably ends up at 225lb as he's pretty tall, 6'3.
  2. Bad read by burrows but that's a goal Reimer has to have. Whys he even in net?
  3. You follow our prospects more? How by stat mining? So the frequency of my posting determines how much hockey I watch? ok great logic bud, I actually pay for Junior streams, how about you? Any BTW you said : DeNiro, on 11 May 2014 - 5:04 PM, said: I was saying that Ehlers is an elite playmaker, not Shinkaruk because you said we should be taking an elite playmaker before taking another pure goal scorer.
  4. He's equally good at both but I guess if you're just basing your opinion off stats, which that's clearly all you do, then sure. Anyways this is Horvat talk. Not sure if it was posted but here's a new article about Horvat and London's preparation for the Memorial Cup: http://www.vancouversun.com/touch/story.html?id=9816636
  5. Well good thing he's an elite playmaker then..
  6. Virtanen is Booth but with an A+ shot. Imagine if Booth could shoot, he'd be one hell of a player.
  7. your sig is fitting, you obviously DO NOT WATCH. Gtfo of here with your garbage. Easily one of the worst posters on this site
  8. Wow that must have taken some time, thanks for that. Pretty much puts to rest the lazy argument that he's a product of drouin. Also I've read on hf multiple times throughout the year that Halifax fans had to double check ehlers number because they thought he was drouin after a crazy play. I'm not saying he's as good as drouin, but considering drouin is a year older and no3 in a very deep draft that is quite the compliment. Also a lot of the SH goals ehlers scored were from drouin, but a lot of the times he created the scoring opportunity by himself with his blazing speed(the ones I have seen anyways)
  9. Yeah he's also fallen off our draft board according to Matt sekeres , but I think that's unfair to come to that conclusion off hearsay and before the combine. He's still a physically undeveloped kid, and a late bloomer if I've seen one. But you're right, he's too risky at #6 overall for us given the magnitude of this pick for us.
  10. Yea, I try to read as much as I can, but I also watch as many playoff games as I can find online and on tv of the 6th overall candidates. I don't normally care because we never have the opportunity to draft these players, but this year I was praying for the 6th overall once we started tanking, and I got my wish. Hard for me to not be excited and I've watched a bit of Ritchie ehlers and virtanen as well as Nylander at the u18. Can't say the same for many others who talk out of their asses like (bantsn) but I don't pretend to be an expert . I just try to be as objective as possible and keep an open mind, but I can't help but do my own due diligence on the potential future canucks:p
  11. While I agree with you that on the surface he has a lot of flaws and doesn't really seem like a hard nosed player, the talent is elite(perhaps first overal worthy) In the u18s even if his points were "meaningless" he still dictated the play and looked like he as toying with the opposing teams. He was clearly the best player on the ice for the most part and showcased his amazing vision on multiple occasions. He has many flaws like you stated but I think a lot of those things are very correctible. if he learns to treat defense as importantly as offense he would be amazing. His ability to think the game one step ahead of everyone and anticipate plays would be a huge asset defensively. Unfortunately, at the present he seems to only be offense and offense only. He seems to be immature by all accounts , even physically, but once he matures and commits himself completely he could be the best player in the draft. I think the likelihood of him busting his very slim given his dads tutelage and his amazing skill. He just will likely need more time to develop physically than the other in the top ten.(late bloomer) I don't think id be comfortable taking him 6th, however maybe all he needs is proper guidance from a pair of Swedish superstars in Daniel and henrik .
  12. I agree with you his "bust" potential is low, but i also think his "boom" potential is very low as well. I think he will be a solid nhler but his offense is limited and very reliant on his physical stature and ability to manhandle other players at this level. The intriguing thing is that he's much younger than a lot of players in this draft class but there are many red flags as well. His offense is for the most part, one dimensional.I know a lot of people see this as a plus, but he likes to go through small defenders a lot of the time, destroying them while carrying the puck instead of going around them. While this looks awesome and is very effective in juniors, good luck doing that in the pros. He's not great on the pp and he is lazy from the games I've watched on the backcheck( unless he is the one that made the mistake and turned the puck over). If it's his giveaway I noticed he backchecks with full intensity. If he enters the zone and he's unable to drive to the net or rip a laser past the goalie, he circles behind the net and forces the puck in front. Rarely have I seen him showcase any vision or playmaking ability at all. On the flip side he does have the ability to make a really nice saucer pass so his hands aren't the problem it's more how he processes the game. He's a very "sexy" prospect and I would love to draft a local Canadian but I feel he's a bit of a reach with the sixth overall . He's young and he has a lot of potential but honestly i think if this were most years he'd be outside the top ten.
  13. I'm not even sure why I bother replying to you as you are a borderline troll. Some of your posts you come across as reasonable and level headed but then you come out with something so blatantly bias and troll worthly( such as your "scout rankings" of potential 6th picks). Ehlers is one of the best PKers on the mooseheads, and is used in a lot of different situations. Admittedly, his board play needs work, but its not terrible by any means and will improve(and in fact has improved) as he continues to add to his frame. His ability to adapt to the North American game so quickly is very impressive to me, although it's a bit of a gamble to assume he can continue to progress at his rate, he is a very intriguing player. As I've stated before, if he had come over to North America a year sooner, he would be unquestionably a top 5 pick this year. He is an extremely fast learner and has shown a great attitude game in and game out. I swear if I didn't know he was a Euro I wouldn't be able to tell, except for his size(which is way overblown). Where as, your guy, Virtanen, is often criticized for taking shifts off and showing up when he wants to. The handful of games I watched(which are admittedly not enough to make a concise conclusion), he was invisible except for a few shifts. If you're questioning Ehlers ability to adapt from juniors to the pros, it should be the same for Virtanen just as much if not more. There are way more red flags. He's got size going for him and he dominated so obviously because of this, but he's also got a poor attitude and he's got a clear cut strength and size advantage over pretty much everyone he faces(how many guys hit people while carrying the puck at the nhl level?answer: none). I think comparison wise as far as WHL goes he compares style wise a lot to Evander Kane, but is no where near as dynamic as Kane and doesn't dominate anywhere like Kane did(And Kane is criticized as being one dimension at the NHL level). I like Virtanen a lot, don't get me wrong, but I would only feel comfortable if we traded down for him as aside from his amazing shot, skating ability and strength, he looks lost a lot of the times in the offensive zone with skill players(particularly on the cycle and PP). You cant come in here and constantly knock Ehlers and then give Virtanen a free pass when the concerns are the same if not much greater IMO. More often than not Virtanen isn't even the most dominant player on his team, let alone his line, and goes entire games without contributing anything at all. A lot of the time the play dies on his stick if he's not able to snipe a goal or power his way around the D. For me, I have Ritchie ahead of Virtanen, and I hate using (INEC) but IMO its not. Ritchie is able to make plays and make something out of nothing a lot more than Virtanen seems to be able to. Ritchie is also a lot more consistent and shows soft hands and above average vision. Virtanen has age going for him and speed, but you can't teach hockey IQ and Virtanen seems to be lacking in this department. He's dangerous off the rush but if he's defended properly he circles the net and tries to stuff it everytime, or tries to force a pass into the slot. He simply lacks creativity and if it's a problem at the junior level, he's going to be restricted even more in the pros. As much as I hate to use Booth as a comparison, I feel in his prime, Booth is a fairly close representation of what Virtanen is. Obviously, thats still a very good player but not worthy of the highest pick we've had since the Sedins. Now if we were to trade Kesler and aquire Ottawa's 10th overall, I would be more than happy to take that risk as the potential is great. I feel we have a similar one dimensional player, albeit not nearly as dominate physically, in Nicklas Jensen. For me it's razor thin between Ritchie and Ehlers and given the magnitude of this pick, I actually trust our scouts to do their due diligence on this pick and make the right call(crazy I know). Now if my pick from the start of the year (Dal Colle) happened to drop, I would be absolutely ecstatic but if not and if we don't trade up for the no1 overall, it's Ehlers all the way.
  14. It was Matt Sekeras that said he heard from someone within the Canucks organization that Nylander has fallen off our draft board because of consistency problems, questionable work ethic and the fact that his pops is micromanaging his career.
  15. With all due respect, his first two strides need some work no question. I'd say he definitely has average skating, which isn't necessarily bad for his size and works for him in junior and for the style of play he plays. At the next level, he certainly wont be relying on his skating(think getzlaf) but it does need work. But that's normal, every prospect has some flaws, they are 18 years old for gods sakes. More on point to Ehlers, his flaws seem to be more size based, as he is quite a complete player. He's certainly not a one trick pony as he's very good at pking(although I concede usually with Drouin) but that shouldn't take away from his own abilities. At the next level he will be playing with highly skilled line mates anyways, so the fact that he is proficient in the D zone, plays the PP , and is a very dangerous PKer make him less of a risk than some of the larger players like Ritchie and Virtanen. He simply has very few holes in his game and if he played junior last year with the Mooseheads he'd be a top 5 pick no question in my mind. I like Ritchie because for his size he has quite good hands and has very good vision and above average hockey sense, but there is no question hes dominant a lot of the time because of his size , especially while getting a stride in on the defender and driving to the net(near impossible to knock off the puck in junior). IMO the risk with Ehlers size is way overblown and it's just people nitpicking and trying to discredit him to suit their agenda. He's very average weight for skill players who are about to be drafted and about average height compared to some of the best in the game. The sky is literally the limit IMO, and the fact that he looked on par if not better some games than Drouin and Mantha is a testament to this. He's only risky because of the small sample size he's played in the Q, but if you judged him by the way he's been able to adapt so quickly to the smaller ice and his steep trajectory(steady ppg improvement), he's a very easy choice at 6th if one of the top 5 don't drop. He was able to grow an inch and over 15 lbs in a hockey season ,which shows hes not done filling out yet. We need to start thinking about life after the Sedin's, and who knows if we have a higher pick than this before they're done. This guy has first line talent all over him and if we don't take him, we will be kicking ourselves after Toronto does and are reaping the rewards for years to come.
  16. Agreed, and you gotta think he's going to work hard on his skating. He also seems slower than he actually is because he slows the game down similarity to Hank and Jumbo Joe. If he works on his first few steps and uses his big frame a bit more he's going to be an absolute force.
  17. True but I also watched some mooseheads playoff games this year, and he's definitely not soft. Best player on the ice on more than one occasion IMO.
  18. I don't see a "soft Euro" at all
  19. If Trevor Linden is serious about bringing excitement back to the Rog, drafting this kid is a great way to start. Eat your heart out haters:
  20. Yeah Matt Sekeras reported this morning that he heard he's fallen down the canucks draft board due to poor work ethic and consistency issues. His dad is also micromanaging his career as well. He also said that if he didn't have the work ethic and consistency problems , he would most likely be a top 3 pick in this draft, and most likely the best offensively
  21. blogs.theprovince.com/2014/04/25/trotz-qa-coaching-in-canada-bring-it-on-another-side-of-torts-sweeping-more-than-curling-ice/
  22. Well McLellans done tomorrow too.
  23. Right move but I do feel for Torts. Guy won't get another kick at the can most likely. I will also miss his post game interviews a lot.
  24. His ignorance continues to shine through.
