@kanucks25 As @Bissurnette has stated, this very thread is an example of this.
People gave you legitimate reasoning as why you shouldn't assume this would be the case had he been here and your response was "copium" followed by claiming you're always right. You didn't provide any insight as to why others are wrong.
Now, of course, I don't expect you to listen to any of this because you're "always right" in your mind. Can't be wrong if you ignore what everyone else says.
I'm also done in responding here. I've said my piece and you can take it or leave it. Otherwise, unless if you're willing to set your massive ego aside, it's just not worth my time.

p sure i remember us firing benning or was that a dream

McCann 11th in even-strength goal scoring, one spot ahead of Crosby. Thanks Benning.

I thought they traded him cuz it was leaked that he was some sort of "lone star" egoistical diva who was unpopular? The fact that they traded him for the pylon that is Gudbranson aside, it took him until his third team (Pittsburgh) to really start scoring (2020: 0.75 points/ game), then with this Kraken selection he really broke out (50 points last season, 35 this season already). You never really know for players with ego (read: Virtanen, Jake; some players just never mature, even if people are patient with them).
-
@phil_314 When trades are made that may be unpopular, it's not uncommon for teams to leak "information" to the media that may make them look better. Maybe McCann did have an attitude problem, but he was also 19 and rushed into the NHL which is on management. Him not "working out" here says less about him and more about our piss poor development for which there is a lot of evidence.

guys what did we do to deserve this last decade pls

@shiznak Slight over exaggeration

Bruce lost the plot pretty early this season but his decisions late in this game were mindboggling. Don't fire him though, he's become an excellent tank commander.

Two games ago we only blew a one goal lead and last night we didn't blow any leads. #progress

Well 42 I'm glad we didn't sign him, so far he's been lucky on the injury front but as he ages he's going to slow right down and not be worth anything close to what he's being paid so F that!
I'm glad he wasn't resigned here and we're trying to get younger. Same with Edler, and even Markstrom is on the wrong side of 30 and they all wanted term and that would have been a HUGE mistake.
I'm with JB on this one, perfect call.

quick someone make a "EP, do we really need him" thread... that'll fix him real good

A thread that will
fix him real good?
We just want him real good again
Canucks have been .500 without him out of the lineup, which is a better than this or last years record and about the same % since he has been a Canuck, (currently not great bang for the buck), but no need for a thread- Nothing wrong with people missing and concern for the fire, passion and magic lacking that EP gave us before, this hasn't been just a 10 game drought of missing that- If one could still see that still without the scoring, it wouldn't be much to be concerned about

It's as if a curse has been lifted.

Defending & condoning this garbage has been part of the problem. This pressure should have been applied many years ago. Let's be better next time. :D

A little disappointed by Adele's new album. Good, but not great.
-
@aGENT any thoughts my friend?
-
Seattle has one game in hand, which they are currently winning. If they close it out, the expansion team passes us in the standings lol.
-
@Patel Buresource?
-
Remember when we allegedly only sucked because COVID and "tough" North Division? lol
-
No one ever once said that the North Division was "tough." Once again, you are making $&!# up because that's what your leaders MS and Y2K at HF Canucks have instructed you to do.
As far as this year goes, the Canucks would have been a middle of the road team had Pettersson and Boeser not completely fallen off a cliff. So - if you or your "clan" at HF accurately predicted that Petey and Boeser would completely tank this season, then kudos. From what I can tell though, "your people" predicted the following:
1) OEL would be a train-wreck.
2) The OEL-Myers pairing would get hemmed.
3) Dickinson would be an upgrade over Sutter, Beagle, and Gaudette as Dickinson had pretty good defensive metrics in a number of defensive categories from an analytics perspective (this was touted as one of the "few good moves" that Benning had made throughout his tenure)
4) The Canucks would struggle mightily 5 on 5.
5) Our team would be overly reliant on its Powerplay
6) Our PK would suck.
So congrats - "your people" got #6 right, and #4 to a minor extent.
Not one of you guys however mentioned anything about Pettersson or Boeser.
"Your people" are standing there in pretention claiming that "we told you that this would happen," but the Canucks are failing due to completely different reasons. I have no idea what happened in the lorckerroom in 2020-2021, or what went on behind the scenes in the 2020 off-season, but something must have definitely happened.
Other than letting Toffoli walk and being overly loyal to Travis Green, I can't see a single mistake that Benning made post 2020 bubble playoffs. Nate Schmidt for a 3rd should have been a steal. Hamonic, on paper, wasn't that much of a downgrade from Tanev.....only difference being that Hamonic came with much better term and money. Holtby (a 1A goalie) was required in order to help insulate Demko into his new role as a #1.
Even this year, guys like Garland, Hamonic, and Demko shouldn't be that much of a downgrade from Toffoli, Tanev, and Markstrom.......except with the former three, we have much more favourable term and money.
Demko faces a lot of high danger chances, but not to the extent that Markstrom was facing in 19-20.
But hey - if you guys predicted that Pettersson, Boeser, and Dickinson would be complete non-entities this season, then more power to you.
-
Y'all asked for this xD

The amount of brain cells I've lost over the years arguing with people who defend this management team. Mind-boggling.

Patel’s autopsy of the Benning and Green regime.
For me, it was that 2020 off-season that ultimately killed us since it must have confused our players.
After signing Myers and Ferland, along with trading a 1st+ to bring in JT Miller, and using Madden+ for trade for Tyler Toffoli, the Canucks finally made the playoffs via the play-ins, took out the defending champs, and came within a game of making the 3rd round.........and then we unceremoniously, let all four of Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli, and Stecher walk while keeping the lazy and troubled Virtanen on the team.
For me - it was this off season and this off season alone that turned our biggest team strength (team chemistry) into one of our biggest weaknesses.
The Arizona deal needed to happen in 2020 which would have allowed us to move massive cap space in order to sign those aforementioned 4 players. Yes, we would have had to lose Demko and Podkolzin in the process, but all of our bad contracts would have been moved while allowing us to simultaneously sign those 4 players.
To Arizona: Podkolzin + Demko + Player Name + Sutter + Baertschi + Roussel + Virtanen + Gaudette for OEL, Garland, Kuemper.
Miller-Pettersson-Toffoli
Hoglander-Horvat-Boeser
Pearson-####-Garland
Motte-Beagle-MacEwen
OEL-Myers
Hughes-Tanev
Edler-Stecher
Markstrom
Kuemper
Given the Covid situation in 2020, many players were signing “poo poo” one year heavily discounted contracts with the expectation that they’d sign more normalized contracts a year later. In other words, the Canucks would have likely been able to sign a really good player for pennies on the dollar and either duplicate or build upon their 2020 bubble playoffs.
Instead, I believe that the 2020 off season confused our core players of Myers, Miller, Horvat, Pettersson, Hughes, and Boeser.
On top of all this, it looks like Green’s system all along simply wasn’t conducive to maximizing players’ strengths. Schmidt came here and stunk, Virtanen is now doing extremely well in the KHL, while OEL can’t produce points with us. Gudbranson seems to have rediscovered his game while Chris Tanev doesn’t seem to be injury prone anymore largely due to Calgary’s superior puck possession game. Green’s shocking lack of creativity and innovative systems has also sunk this team.
Given the way that Benning had tried to rebuild this team since the 2015 playoff loss, it was absolutely imperative that Benning ran with that Markstrom, Tanev, and Stecher contingent because those were the guys that went through the battles with our core and those were the guys that held the fart down while we transitioned.
Given the way that Benning chose to rebuild this team, losing both Demko and Podkolzin so that we could clear bad contracts AND hold onto those aforementioned four players was absolutely imperative. Benning needed to pull the trigger on the OEL/Garland deal in 2020 much faster........but didn’t since Benning completely lost the context. Benning may have made the right moves on paper, but he sold out his core in the process.

Your hope has not fallen on deaf ears my friend. It certainly does help. @AV.
