  1. I think you might be the first person that has claimed we need to fix our defense. It's really a great idea, someone should contact Allvin ASAP and let him know.
  2. We would have to add the NYI 1st to make this even.
  3. Time to bring back Mike Gillis.

    1. Dazzle

      Dazzle

      No thank you.

  4. I think it makes more sense to just eat it for two more seasons (after this one) because we probably aren't going to be contending during that time anyway and then trade him to a rebuilding team for the purposes of a buyout. At that point it would probably cost us a 1st, 2nd and 3rd or something like that to dump him (thanks Benning). But if you replace his salary with a good D-man in free agency that can take his spot, it could be a palatable tradeoff.
  5. Isn't our Boeser situation pretty much the same? Here's the thing though: If you were a team trying to push within the next few years, chances are you have limited cap. You essentially need to make every dollar count to push yourself over the top; the more dead cap you have the less chance you are a true contender. So if you were one of these teams, are you taking a gamble on one of the slowest skaters in the league who has been pretty bad for two seasons now and can't seem to stay healthy, or are you going to pay more for more of a "sure bet"? Yeah, it'll cost a lot more to acquire a player who is highly regarded and performing well, but if you're going for it, why risk it? To me it makes more sense for a rebuilding team like Anaheim. They have a ton of cap and if Boeser does turn it around, they could flip him later for more than they paid.
  6. It's not negative, it's just being real. If you follow the NHL you know what the value is of wingers with term. Look at the return Bjorkstrand and Pacioretty garnered recently. Perhaps Boeser was a bounce-back candidate coming into this year but his play is even worse this year than it was last, at least away from the puck. I've actually been a defender of Boeser for most of his career, because despite his slow skating he was always an effective player outside of his points; he wasn't ever going to kill penalties or anything but he was not a liability defensively and he was strong on the puck and on the boards... that's been pretty much gone for two seasons now. If I'm another team, why am I taking on 13M+ in a winger who is already slow, perhaps has lost a step he cannot afford to lose, and perhaps is injury prone. This is a type of player you take a gamble on free, you don't pay premium assets for him.
  7. Oh wow. Some random idiot on twitter who constantly spins the stuff he's "quoting", referring to an insider who has no sources left in the NHL. I've definitely been proven wrong here. And, as @Ghostsof1915 mentioned, the tweet doesn't refute anything I said.
  8. Nobody is offering a top pairing RD for a goalie. Goalies are both easier to acquire and easier to play around/shelter. Whereas we've seen here first hand how difficult it is to secure quality RD's.
  9. Jarry was bad in the playoffs two years and injured in the playoffs last year. If he doesn't perform for one reason or another in these upcoming playoffs, it wouldn't be a surprise if they went in another direction despite his regular season success.
  10. No chance you get Clarke. Goalies simply do not have top prospect value if you look at precedence. 1st + good prospect is probably the price, assuming Demko shows he's healthy and playing like his usual self. 1st + Grans would be lovely. If we do trade Demko, I hope we entertain taking on Petersen's cap dump, as well (for more assets, of course).
  11. No I agree, all the same can be said about OEL. If you're being paid 7+ million you need to play like you're worth it regardless of partner. Hughes definitely has warts in his game but still earns his keep regardless of partner. But at the same time he'd probably perform more like a 9M guy if he still had Tanev, for example. That said, I have more faith in OEL playing well if given the "right" partner compared to Myers because at least OEL has a legit track record of being a high quality player in the past.
  12. Lots of people here have and continue to do so, as laughable as it is. One poster in particular is adamant that in his almost 5 years here, Myers has never been in the "right situation" or had the "right partner" for him to excel in a top-4 role, as if a 6M D-man should need to be coddled and carried for him to perform adequately. In reality, a 6M D-man should at worst be a #3 guy, which means he should be carrying his own top-4 pairing, and shouldn't need to be babysat. Well the problem is Myers gets buried in his role because he's always playing above his skill level. He's always been deployed as a top-4 guy despite never actually performing like one (outside of last season where the bizarro pairing of OEL-Myers actually worked). Not that his role is unfair to him, at least based on his cap hit, because he plays the minutes a 6M guy ought to. If he was only being paid 2.5M and only playing as a sheltered 5/6 and 2nd PK, his charts wouldn't look so bad.
  13. Yeah, he's not going to get a 2nd round pick. Next year at the deadline when he's rental assuming he plays well for us, sure. A 3rd liner making 4.15M in this cap climate is negative value. Not massive negative value as he's probably still seen as a guy with "potential" and only has one more year on his deal but this is also a player that has pretty much stagnated for several years.
  14. Project player. One of those guys everyone thinks has potential to become a legit top-6er but never did. Many Isles fans became pretty frustrated with his game. Not a bad "buy low" bet, but you'd wish the cap hit was much smaller on a gamble like this.
  15. Everyone of these is grossly lopsided in the Canucks favor. If it was that easy we would win the Cup ever year. EDIT: Will say it's hard to gauge Miller's value right now, although I wouldn't be surprised if it's negative given the contract and his play this year.
