[Signing] Stars sign Jani Hakanpaa

I'm just gonna assume the Finnish connection /tax situation in Dallas enticed him to sign for less and let this one go :D -
Love what they've done with all the veteran signings. Should make for a good team and good environment for the prospects. WIsh they had done more of this with Utica but better late than never.

[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
kanucks25 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It wasn't about what he's going to do. It's about what he's done and what kind of contract that should have earned him. There's a difference. The bolded really has nothing to do with it; again, read my above comment. And try to attack the opinion, not the person. We're all Canucks fans here, chill out. So because you disagree with me I'm uninformed? Couldn't I just say the same thing about you lol? -

I'm optimistic regarding Shaw. Although almost anything would be an improvement over our "chicken with their heads cut off'" strategy last season. -

I doubt it regarding OEL considering it was known Benning went hard after him last year. And that too does make me feel better about this signing, although it's of course wait and see with Shaw, as well. -

Also lol @ this: "His agent told me 12 teams were interested in him." Well, obviously we better believe the agent - he's 100% unbiased when it comes to contract negotiations for his client. -

Again, reading comprehension: And, from another post: I just don't think he deserves the contract we gave him based on his resume so far (not what he's going to do). We could use some players, especially on defense, that are outplaying their contracts. Think of it this way: If we gave Garland 8M, it's possible he plays up to his contract (who knows, PPG isn't out of the realm of possibility), but it would still be considered overpayment because nothing in his resume suggests he should get that much. Yes I will admit, that even though I think this is overpayment, the "extra 33%" only equates to about 750k and one extra year, so it's nothing really to gripe about. But my original post wasn't at all aggressively negative. The usual suspects just had their bat signal go off because it wasn't a full out groveling at the feet of the leader. -

Smart investors make smart investments, they don't just throw money at whatever because other people are / are willing to if you don't. Read the sig for more tips. -

Sure and not necessarily. Overall I'm not unhappy with this signing in a vacuum, just think that it's about 33% too large both in terms of money and term. I don't see how that or anything else I've posted here regarding Poolman is aggressively negative / worst-case scenario material. -

That quote had nothing to do with this signing. It was the regarding the other players he listed. Again, reading comprehension... try to follow along. People here are so blinded by their love for the beloved leader they just get their defenses up instantly instead of trying to have a discussion. Lay off the kool-aid. -

ITT: "giving a depth player term" = sh*tting all over it / worst-case scenario. ok. -

Where did I "S" all over the signing? Where did I predict the worst case scenario? Please show me the quotes. Really you're just making stuff up and arguing with yourself lol. -

Where am I whining? I'm just discussing the signing. You equate a dissenting opinion to whining. -

Uh yeah, it matters. You think everyone would be bashing Eriksson for years and years if he was @ 1M instead of 6? Don't you think there would be less consternation over Myers if he was signed @ 4 instead of 6? I don't blame any player for taking more money than they are worth. It's not their job to save a GM from himself. It's on the GM to give out better contracts so that fans are happy with a player's cost vs. production. -
[Discussion] Are the Canucks now a legitimate playoff team?
kanucks25 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Yet I don't see any D-man remaining in the organization that I would trust more than Schmidt to match up against top-6 forwards on a regular basis. I know Schmidt didn't perform as well as everyone had hoped for us but he wasn't a bum and if we're expecting the team/players to have a bounce-back in a more "normal" year next season, I don't see why Schmidt wouldn't fall under that category. -

Go back and read the post chain. He said Canucks fans like to have whipping boys, then proceeded to list off Benning's terrible contracts that were bought out / cap dumps as if the fans are supposed to be thrilled with those deals. There actually wasn't an argument to win. He dunked on himself with a ridiculous post lol. -

I don't know, I'm not losing my mind. Again, re-read my original post in this thread. I don't see how that it's in any way over the top. -

We've improved, at least on forward, and the division isn't great. If Demko has a strong year I wouldn't be surprised if we made the playoffs. Let's just hope this defense is better on the ice than on paper. -

Or you can try to come up with some sort of legitimate rebuttal. Or just resort to random emojis and gifs whenever you lose an argument like @oldnews You know, whatever works. -
Honestly, can't blame you. Here you go: FWIW, I liked Bonino. And that trade actually would have turned out pretty good if they doubled down on the positive aspects (kept Bonino and McCann) instead of the negative (jettisoned the two aforementioned players and kept/re-signed Sbisa to a laughable contract).
