  1. I'm not saying it's likely we're going to lose him. My post was more towards the people who think we would/could walk away from him.
  2. Losing a young 1C sets this "rebuild" back years. This is why some preach cap flexibility. If you need to overpay, you overpay essential players, not placeholders and support/secondary players like the ones we've signed in free agency.
  3. I'd hold off on calling him a top pair D until he performs like one, because he hasn't for a few years now. FWIW, I'm optimistic that he'll have a bounce back season. Just don't know how far he's going to bounce.
  4. Really like the player and the contract. Great work.
  5. Mixed bag is rich. And any dissenting opinion is met with replies likes yours to me Apparently I'm biased just for disagreeing with you lol. It's a figure of speech, surely you understand that. Yes I know, I was one of them. Yeah, I don't think Schmidt is the problem here. I'm entitled to that opinion.
  6. Just find it funny when management brings in a player via signing/trade/draft/whatever, it's all praise here and then if it doesn't work out, it's all on the player. Eriksson, Virtanen, McCann, Prust, Dahlen, Schmidt, etc. We've had quite a few problem children of late. Maybe we should look at the root of the problem instead? And thanks, I will! Most posts I'm replying to don't deserve anything more.
  7. You're right, I'll edit my previous post. Thanks.
  8. Nothing like damage control whenever a player is about to be shipped out. Keep fighting the good fight, my man.
  9. You mean teams weren't lining up to trade for a goalie with a 4M+ cap hit that's been under .900 sv% back-to-back years? No wai
  10. Yes for the almost 15 years I've been on this board I've been a sleeper cell agent for the Vancouver hockey media. My goal was always to establish myself like 7 years before Jim Benning took the job so I could eventually sabotage his efforts.
  11. Jake has nobody to blame but himself. I'm sure there were times that things could have been handled better with him but for the most part, he had a lot of opportunities based simply on physical potential and draft spot that he didn't deserve. The mistake was drafting him to begin with.
  12. "omg can't believe how toxic this media is always stirring up crap Benning denied this rumor"
  13. Few draft picks and few prospects left, all before accomplishing anything. So we have no choice but to compete now, that's what Benning has initiated with the latest trade. It's make or break time. If this core doesn't have it, we're in for a lot more years of pain. This isn't "the" year, as the core is still relatively young and could have a lot of good years together, but I think people are overestimating how much cap space we'll have going forward. The limit isn't supposed to increase for at least a few more seasons, and for every Luongo recapture or Holtby contract coming off the books, a Horvat or Boeser or Hoglander is in line for a raise. What we desperately need is a mid or late draft pick or two to become impact players. Someone like Jett Woo coming out of nowhere and establishing himself as a top-4 RD while still on his ELC or cheap bridge contract. We simply don't have the roster, assets, cap space to be a legit contender without something like this happening. We need some luck, I think we can all agree that we're due.
  14. Pretty shallow way to evaluate the merits of open cap space.
  15. Arizona doing great work. Should amount to a boatload of assets assuming they don't bungle every pick lol. Or they can trade picks for established young players when they see fit.
  16. If it happened, he's going to report it. That's his job. How a few random, easily offended Canucks fans perceive it is none of his concern, naturally.
  17. Warrior for the Hawks during their peak years, great player. He won't ever get mentioned with Kane, Toews and Keith when people look back at that team but he was very important to their success.
  18. How is that trolling? You do realize Buchnevich was traded, right? You don't think it's in anyway possible that when the Rangers and Canucks talked about Buch, they asked for Horvat? He didn't say it was close to happening or anything because the Canucks wouldn't entertain that. You're perceiving what you want instead of reading what's there.
  19. Crazy price. On one hand - maybe we'll get a lot for Schmidt. On the other hand - we'll have to pay up quite a bit to fix our defence lol
  20. Guy at the top right got lost on his way to the spelling bee group photo. No wait, never mind, one of the best players of all time.
