  1. No, he's just really good at his job. Sample size is there. The rebuild strategy he's been using in Detroit looks brilliant; of course nothing has panned out yet but it's hard not to give him the benefit of the doubt. When you look at the moves he makes vs. some other GM's in the league, it's quite clear that he knows what he's doing - the moves look good at face value and make sense in the grand scheme of things and you don't have to do mental gymnastics to validate or explain anything.
  2. Damn you took a lot out of a 4 letter initialism. Keep fighting the good fight my man.
  3. They likely value him like we value Boeser. Would you trade Boeser for 9th overall + scraps/dumps? Answer is an easy no from me and likely is from Buffalo.
  4. Dodging a bullet here. Can see him doing well for a couple seasons but the 2nd half of that contract could be brutal.
  5. Not a fan of selling low but if they are to trade him, I imagine they have another move or two lined up to both replace him and improve the D. At least I hope.
  6. Meh, just posturing. Every Russian that is having a tough negotiation will use this card. I don't doubt that the KHL has given him a significant offer but it's very possible he has no interest in bolting. There's a reason why most guys that bolt either try to find their way back quite quickly or are older and on the decline (not much NHL interest).
  7. So are a lot of other teams. Don't you think the fans of like every other middling team is telling themselves that they'd be good if they just added 1 or 2 more top-4 D-men or top-6 forwards? It means nothing. Lack of depth = bad. If we were good (aka had depth) we'd be losing a top-6 forward like Tampa. Look at the standings, look at the stats, look at the facts. I'm not breaking news here by telling you we're bad.
  8. I don't blame Benning for losing Lind but this is a bit disingenuous lol. We're not losing a good player because we suck.
  9. No, you completely misunderstood what I said lol.
  10. Yes, but you can still pick and choose what you buy. Just because the market value of some cars is 6 or 7 figures doesn't mean everyone can afford a car that expensive. If someone else is willing to pay that much, let them have it. Then build your team through the draft and trading and stop focusing on inefficient processes. In real life, would you invest in something you knew was a bad deal / would get you a bad return? It's silly.
  11. Tampering is rampant in every sports league. He already knew the other offers on the table, just unofficially.
  12. Right choice by Seattle, BPA wise out of Toronto. Strange by Toronto - was giving up Hallander + 7th worth protecting Kerfoot or Dermott? Could have just replaced these guys through free-agency.
  13. Am I stewing? I was talking about McCann and the Leafs and the guy just quotes me to slam Gillis out of nowhere... If I were to stew over every dumb thing Benning has done I'd be pure vapour by now. It is what it is.
  14. Hilarious how a thread for a player that Benning tossed away in a bungled trade has turned into a "defend Benning at all costs" thread but you do you my dudes.
  15. What does any of this have to do with Gillis or his drafting? Isn't this a McCann to the Leafs trade thread? lmao?
  16. We had 4th liners and bottom-pairing D on our protection list. We don't have any expendable players that are worth anything. The main roster players we want to get rid of would require us to add picks, not the other way around.
