  1. What about the "age-gap" stuff? Pretty much the definition of shortcut lol And the "turn the team around faster than many think" quote.
  2. For some, it's no longer about what's best for the franchise. It's about not wanting to face the reality that you vehemently and emotionally defended something for 7 years and it ended up being wrong. And that goes for both sides.
  3. Lol The desperation, reaches, hyperbole, slander is getting worse and worse everyday as the apologists see the writing on the wall. You have to love it.
  4. Don't know how to feel about JR. In the first half of his time with the Pens he made some great moves that led to two championships, and then in the second half he was arguably the worst GM in the league. However I do think this team needs a reputable veteran in the front office (whether it's the PoHo or GM) that can both handle the owner and bring some credibility back to the franchise. Someone who knows how to handle the media would be great, too.
  5. Not a surprise here. It's his M.O. to say questionable-to-dumb things and then completely ignore it once he's corrected/called out. At the very least I admire your determination.
  6. This is 100% and unfortunately very troubling. You would think a multimillion dollar businessman would understand the concept of investment. In other words, lose something now for greater gains in the future. The Canucks should have looked at a full rebuild like an investment. The losing would have given revenue a big hit in the short-term, but they would have made it back & more had they done the rebuild right. Instead they avoided the idea of a full rebuild like the plague and, to what should be nobody's surprise, became a dumpster fire anyway. We might have a chance when this owner/management group learns there are no shortcuts. A lot of good pieces are in place, this is far away from being unsalvageable. Just frustrating how many unforced errors we will have to suffer to get there.
  7. Talking about the GM... not the players.
  8. So for the mistakes, should coulda woulda don't dwell. But point out all the good things. I mean, I can appreciate the positivity but this type of thinking makes it completely impossible to evaluate the job someone is doing objectively.
  9. Uh, yes they did? What is it with this place and thinking all of Benning's moves were applauded when first made but only look bad in hindsight? WhO cOuLD hAVe knOwn'!:?!!!!!!!
  10. Fans already do have low expectations, they have for years. That's the only reason why this garbage has been allowed to continue on. Apathy set in a while ago.
  11. Haven't the Canucks fired several managers/coaches while they still had time left on their contracts? A good businessman understands when to cut his losses - the concept of a "sunk cost".
  12. Any team could have made that tweet and it would be appropriate. It's a garbage excuse.
  13. You expect him to reveal his sources that are giving him inside info? (not saying he's legit, I don't know the writer's credibility level)
  14. Claiming Benning was successful in turning the team around because of that first season where the majority of the team wasn't even his is like saying Marek Malik was successful in changing his playstyle from defensive D-man to dangler because of that one shootout goal. If you want to absurdly ignore all context and disregard that it's obvious that Benning's idea of "turning it around" was not getting booted out in the first round and then being a dumpster fire for a handful of seasons afterwards but instead coming out of the rebuild quicker than others may think. But it's not surprising how far people have to reach now; logic has almost completely left the building. Only thing left to do is grasp at straws.
  15. There's a big difference between coming out right away and stating "this is meritless" compared to the usual "we take these accusations very seriously and are investigating, no further comment at this time."
  16. Signing cheap vets to short-term deals to mentor and/or flip without ever "getting in the way" cap-wise is a pretty standard concept amongst hockey fans. The only reason you'll get pushback here is because Benning has refused to do it for the most part and some will defend it just because it's Benning's plan. And others will say "there's more than one way to rebuild" as if this strategy is something you need to divert all your resources towards to accomplish instead of it just being a simple/easy way to supplement your asset pool.
  17. Don't blame the market for the incompetence of management. Not sure what any of this means. Seems as if the only point is to be longwinded in the hopes of muddying the argument, which is pretty much your calling card. So back to the original issue: Since you referenced that first year under Benning as "turning it around quickly" successfully, what happened after? Or was the plan always to "turn it around" into a first round exit and then be a gongshow afterwards?
  18. A couple of the top teams in the league might hit 82 points this year. Benning's teams have hit this mark just once in 7 seasons, twice if you prorate last year season. And the roster that did it the first time is essentially all gone. So 2 times in 7 tries have we been able to surpass what the top teams are doing in 2/3rds of a season.
  19. No, no, I did. I asked the question but I already know the answer
