  1. Don't forget capped out almost the entire time.
  2. We can agree to disagree. But there's an argument to be made that being upfront and honest with them would be showing them respect. And I highly doubt they're so self-absorbed that they would feel morbidly disrespected. Everything we know about them says they would not have that reaction. If the Sedins didn't see the writing on the wall themselves (the way Kesler did), then that's on them. They should have been given the choice: stick around and help with the rebuild if you don't want to move out of Vancouver, or have your choice of which team you want to be traded to.
  3. I understand the level of respect the organization has for the Sedins, and they earned every bit of it. But the organization's priority should be to winning, not catering to individuals no matter how monumental they are. If my employer is replacing me with someone that can do the job just as well but for less money, how could I blame them? They're running a business, not a charity. The Canucks should be in the business of winning. And I never said they should have been let go.
  4. Honestly would not be opposed to having them take over the organization, it'd probably quite the interesting and entertaining experiment.
  5. That's what's important here. I'm done with thinking of Virtanen as a Canucks player or asset or former draft pick, I don't care anymore. Just hope that if he really did what the woman is saying, she's able to heal and he can become a better human.
  6. He'd likely be bought out this off-season even if the scandal didn't happen. Now that it has, it's a slam dunk.
  7. Just need a GM that knows how to manage his owner. Seems to be a big part of the job these days. Whenever this current management saga ends, Aquilini will probably be looking to repair the PR damage and keep his distance from the team going forward, or at least he'll try harder for it not to go public.
  8. Gotta say, sometimes reading this board is like reading the Youtube comments whenever a news publication uploads a COVID-related video. It's really fascinating; it's both mind-boggling yet not surprising whatsoever at the same time.
  9. "Giving the Sedins another chance" isn't a legitimate excuse/reason for the "rebuild" starting late. It's a fireable offense on its own, because any hockey fan that follows the sport on a regular basis would know that team's window had closed. The GM of the franchise should be able to see the writing on the wall.
  10. It can go several ways. It's possible he's found not guilty (or not enough evidence to prove guilt) but they still find something in the investigation that is grounds for termination due to the aforementioned enigmatic "ethics" clause pro athletes have their contract. From a strictly hockey POV, it's time to move on for both parties.
  11. Based on her story, if accurate, to me it seems like this could be what happened. He was a clueless, ignorant, horny kid and because she would eventually go along with whatever he wanted, perhaps he thought she was playing hard to get and he was just playing the game. It's completely possible that he thought the whole thing was consensual even if it wasn't at all. That doesn't exonerate him in any way, but I imagine that would be side of the story (again, if her side of the story is accurate). It's not uncommon for victims to either freeze in these situations, or just go along with it in fear of worse consequences if they say no.
  12. Is this for real? I'm not condemning Virtanen just yet but the alleged victim directly came out and said it herself. That's not hearsay, that's direct from the source.
  13. I'm not a fan of Travis Green as a coach but the way he's handled all the crap sandwiches this organization has thrown at him, especially from above, is admirable and will do him wonders for his career going forward.
  14. Dude has kept this thread alive for 3 years regurgitating the same garbage. It's not a discussion thread, it's just a train of excuses that keeps chugging along. The same excuses that were made 3 years ago will be made 3 years from now. We will forever have a "promising young prospect pool" so just "be patient" and "try to see the forest for the trees." There's a difference between positivity and delusion.
  15. Canucks fans have become so hysterical they are now debating the nuance of the English language instead of the team. It truly is the darkest of times.
  16. Overall, true, but their 3 star/core players (Pettersson / Hughes / Demko) likely have another gear.
  17. No, they are average at best and young and inexperienced. Once they become experienced, they will probably become good, but they aren't that now. Good teams make the playoffs.
  18. And, from our side, we should stay far away from a 31 year-old who has been on a steady decline the last 3 years with 5M x 3Y remaining on his contract.
  19. Johansen has massive negative value. Why are we giving up a good D-man to get him?
  20. Well, actually, I'm the best GM in Vancouver Canucks history. Patience.
  21. I never said it didn't have an effect. It's just something that comes with the territory in any sport. You know what you're going to get from a hockey fanbase in Vancouver, or a hockey fanbase in Toronto, or a football fanbase in Dallas, or a New York fanbase in any sport. It's ironic you take that "have you ever played a sport" jab when this is a pretty simple concept for anyone who pays attention to sports outside the Vancouver Canucks. In hockey, we hear all the time that X player doesn't want to play in Canada because of the media/pressure/fans. But then we also hear, whenever a medium-big name free agent signs with a Canadian team, that the "passionate fanbase" was a big factor in the decision. So yes, it matters (both ways), but I was addressing the notion that the Canucks fan base is especially toxic in particular compared to any other sport-mad market. It's a completely asinine and baseless idea.
  22. Well, at least this is a new one. I've heard of a lot of ... let's call them "interesting"... excuses for the mismanagement under Benning but the Canucks having to pay players a premium because of their fans is definitely up there.
