We don't agree with the plan. Not we don't understand the plan.

Like I said in my post a few pages back.

I'm just as nervous as you guys are, but you'll feel less frustrated if you just accept the fact that rebuilding through the draft was never the plan.

From management's POV - they don't want to wait for 18 year old prospects to develop while Petey and Hughes push 30 at the end of their prime.

The continued dream world of what we know as CDC.

Boeser's return would be sub-par at best.

He's got 2 years left on his deal. Just ride it out and hopefully he'll play well enough next year to increase his own trade value, if not, just let it expire. Same goes for Myers.

Remember what happened with the OEL trade? Benning couldn't just wait for 1 more year to let Eriksson, Beagle and Roussel's contracts run out instead of giving up assets to dump cap.

  3. A lot of you are screaming at a blank wall.

Once you accept the fact that this team was never going to tear it down in the first place, the less frustration you may feel.

Management is not waiting for 18 year old prospects to bloom into NHL players while Pettersson and Hughes enter the end of the primes pushing the age of 30.

I'm just as nervous as you all are with this re-tool approach, but no sense in yelling at management for not hoarding draft picks. It's not happening. It was never the plan.

I would say management's understanding of the fanbase is misguided.  They did say they were going for a re-tool this year, and fans weren't happy to be hearing that word again.

I'm okay with being wrong three years from now - but this is indeed to wrong approach to take.

Aside from potential Aquilini-Rutherford puppet theories, this approach is being taken because this team now revolves around Pettersson and Hughes.

Drafting a bunch of RHD in this year's draft class requires 2-3 years to be ready for the NHL and then probably another 1-2 to become effective NHL'ers - assuming they even pan out.

If everything goes well, Pettersson and Hughes will be pushing 30 by then and Miller/OEL will be past their primes.

I understand the team is in shambles and we're in no position to compete, but how long are we going to take rebuild when Pettersson and Hughes are already in their prime?

I'd say the majority of the fanbase was anticipating a rebuild, and nobody in the entire league was expecting us to actually be buyers at the trade deadline.

Did you expect us to be buyers at the deadline?

Then that anticipation was misguided. Rutherford and Allvin have been pretty clear with targeting players 23-25, so yes, buying players in this age range is of no surprise to me.

Is it the right approach to take? TBD, but I'm nervous as you all are.

Detroit have 5 picks in the next 2 rounds in the deepest draft in a while, and 30M in deadline cap space.

Never make a deal with Yzerman, he knows what he's doing. His team made a nice step this year, decent playoff push but he's folding now and selling.

Watch him flip Bertuzzi for something decent and maybe take cap dumps for more picks/prospects.

This guy knows how and when to push and fold a team. They pushed at the start of the year now are selling nicely. This is such a win of a trade for Detroit - they just signed Wallman and have such good defensive prospects coming in, they flip Hronek before they have to overpay him.

As for the Canucks, it depends how we fare next year. If these acquisitions lead to us in a playoff spot then great but I worry we're overpaying for young guys when drafting and developing them yourself is the real way forward in this league.

Waiting to draft and develop prospects was never going to be the adopted approach for Allvin and Rutherford. Not sure why everyone was hoping for this.

I was thinking the new management team was doing a pretty good job until this trade.

HORRIBLE. This is going to end up being one of the worst Canucks trades in modern history.

Detroit fans are in full celebration in Twitter saying how badly Yzerman fleeced us and thanking Allvin.

They were doing so well, why?????? UGHHH

I see we've already forgotten about Riley Stillman, Jason Dickenson and OEL.

    Never change CDC

Except that Miller is Miller. Other teams are not blind to the fact that he has only one 99 pt season, and that while he is still putting up good numbers this year, he was moved away from centre because he is already a defensive liability.

They also see the attitude issues.

I'm just saying, that yes, comparing dollars to points his contract is pretty reasonable. But I think there's a lot more risk to his contract than some realize. Not sure he is the type of player other GM's want to hitch their cart to for 7 years.

Competitive teams usually have strong leadership in the locker room and defensive structure. From that point of view, I think someone like Hextall can be convinced that Miller's attitude and defensive issues can be nullified by what's already established in that Penguins locker room.

Until Crosby retires, the Penguins practically have an obligation to stay competitive.

I don't have any certainty that a trade with the Pens happens, but I see the logic for why it could happen.

Don't get me wrong, If we didn't sign Miller to an extension and looked to trade him now, the offers for him would be much better. But that doesn't mean the offers Allvin may be getting now aren't automatically terrible because of the extension.

    No.... no they aren't

Boeser is not a positive asset because he is underperforming on his contract. Especially in the goals department, which is what playoff teams want from him. He is a liability in the neutral and defensive zones. No team sees him as an asset unless we are retaining close to 50% of his contract.

Miller could indeed help a team making a playoff run, however his next contract immediately deflates his "asset" qualities. We can't retain, or else we retain for 7 years. Miller last TDL was a huge asset. Miller + contract is debatable, but I assure you other GM's are not willing to pay to acquire his salary cap hit.

It's better you accept now that these players are not assets for other teams or else you will be sorely disappointed with any return we get, if indeed they are traded.

On Boeser, I agree.  On Miller, no.

His contract value is fair for teams that are interested in having him long-term. Horvat got signed for 8.5 x 8 and the same just happened with Larkin. 8 x 7 for Miller doesn't sound like a crazy idea if you're a team who's going to stay competitive for the foreseeable future. If Miller gets traded, you could honestly see it as a long-winded sign & trade.
