  1. Actually, GMMG signed Luongo to a perfectly legal contract. It wasn't until the next CBA that the owners and the league decided to retroactively punish teams for these contracts, a move that screams Bush league. Nashville and Shea Weber are in the same boat should he retire. If you're going to blame anyone for this, blame Bettman, and all the owner's that voted unanimously to pass this through (including the Aquilini's).
  2. Bang on. The only problem with your post is that it is based on logic, and rational thinking. You should know by now that doesn’t generally translate well on these boards.
  3. Kid has one of those deep, intimidating Russian voices. Like Ivan Drago!
  4. I heard on TSN 1040 that Chia had been helping out with some scouting/advising with the Blues for the last half of the season. Couldn't really find much on the google machine to back that up, other than he's pals with Doug Armstrong, and was seen with him at a few Blues games. Given the right position, he could be an asset, but I'm leery. Not to mention that the thought of him joining the organization makes me nauseous.
  5. I believe that a player can waive this clause to facilitate a trade. My understanding is that it can either be waived just for that trade, or, waived for the duration of the contract. If I were considering a trade for Lucic, and he would not entirely waive it for the full term, that would be a deal breaker.
  6. Never underestimate a GM's ability to overspend on July 1, and overpay on TDL day and at the draft. Tanev could still bring in some good assets. Also, never underestimate Trader Jim's ability to make underwhelming trades, and odd free agent decisions. Also, never underestimate the negative effects of an expired burrito on your digestive system.
  7. That could work. Not a huge Meyers fan, and his contract will most definitely be insane, but some version of this could work.
  8. Haha. Yeah I was being overly sarcastic. I appreciate your optimism, however unfounded I believe it to be.
  9. If they trade Tanev, and lose Edler, whose going to play defense? Zaitsev is a downgrade on both of these players, and I don't see how we can pick up a better dman in a trade for Tanev unless we add something substantial, or take back a bad contract. Trading Tanev for picks won't help improve the D. I think the best option that they have is taking back a bad contract from a team against the cap, but that could backfire as well. Hopefully, Trader Jim can pull off some magic here.
  10. Ah. I get it. You're not basing your "hypothetical" moves in reality. OK. I think they should also get rid of their current defense and replace them as follows: HedBerg Doughty Dahlen Burns Giordano Hughes Subban Reilly I really think Hughes will flourish playing with these players, and will elevate his game to be the next Bobby Orr.
  11. As long as no one let Benning pick up the phone on July 1.
  12. This is true. I’m sorry, but your sound logic has no place in this forum.
  13. I remember we played a lot without Tanev and Edler last year. Do you remember our record? Didn’t work out so well. Removing Tanev, Edler and Hutton from an ice thin defense sounds like a recipe for disaster. I don’t disagree that upgrades are needed, but these things take time. Anyhow, I think overall, we agree on some things, and not on other things. C’est la vie.
  14. Would there not be a tax advantage in some States/Provinces though (Florida, Texas, etc)
  15. OK... Anyways, if Edler moves on, who is his replacement in the lineup? Myers and Gardiner are the only dmen available in free agency that are perhaps able to fill the void, and there is no way they sign here for a term and dollar amount that you would make available for Edler. Trade? OK, but what are you willing to give up? I realize that I sound like I'm leading the Edler fan club here, but I just don't see how this team improves their defense by letting go the top free agent available on Defense.
  16. Only if the Canucks are on his list;) https://www.tsn.ca/report-david-clarkson-submits-no-trade-list-to-vegas-golden-knights-1.1324600
