  1. Stan Bowman be like "Even now, my Dad steals my credit"
  2. It's true. Schneider was outplaying Luongo at the time. He was younger, on a lower contract too. The general feeling was that the Canucks didn't get enough in return. It was a good trade for the Devils. Unfortunately for them, Schneider had some major injury issues that derailed his career, while the Canucks drafted a player that would work his ass off to overcome his skating deficiencies and become the player that he is today.
  3. But this should have been Gadjovich's spot!!!! (sarcasm)
  4. I like your optimism! Steve Kariya was excellent player in the preseason too. Obviously, not a great comparison as OEL has carved out a solid NHL career for himself. My point is that the preseason means very little. Time will tell if OEL can regain his form. In the meantime, I'll continue to hope that he can.
  5. Sounds like a fair assessment to me. The Canucks defense does look pretty horrible. If you think about it, they're counting on OEL to return to form, Myers to improve, Poolman and Schenn to have career years, and who knows if Hamonic will even play. I hope the defense does well. I hope and pray that OEL can be a solid dman for us. I will always hope that the Canucks do well. Having said that, if you take an honest look at the d core, and their past performances, it does not look good.
  6. Awesome! Happy with both contracts. now to just fill the Hamonic hole.
  7. Sorry, but I'm not buying that. Loui signed a big deal and didn't perform. It happens all the time. Some Player's get the big deal, and then coast through their contract until they either retire, or suddenly have a resurgence in their final year.
  8. Wow. Surprised he didn't get picked up. Can't say that I followed his career closely, but I thought he was a pretty decent player.
  9. Top 5 IMHO 1. Jim Robson 2. Jim Hughson 3. Chris Cuthbert. 4. Rick Ball 5. Gord Miller Bob Cole is 5b for me.
  10. I hope he does well there. I always liked Bobby Ryan, just didn't care for his contract.
  11. I went with Henrik, but I’m hopeful that in 10 years, I can change my vote to Pettersson and his 5 Stanley Cup rings!
  12. Quick, someone tell them that Luca Sbisa is still available!
  13. Fair enough. To me, it was a combination of many things. Yes Thomas let in 3 goals in game 2. In the other 6 games, he let in 5 goals TOTAL! I can't think of another goalie that has ever let in only 8 goals in a 7 game series. Obviously the team in front of him had something to do with it. Obviously, the Canucks were beat up and couldn't stop a puck in Boston, but you have to give Thomas his due. He played his best hockey when it was needed most. As for the game in 2012, I don't see how that is relevant.
  14. Also would have helped if Tim Thomas didn't suddenly become the second coming of Georges Vezina. What the hell was up with that? The guy couldn't stop a beachball in the Eastern Conference Finals against Tampa Bay, then, suddenly, he's putting up one of the best goaltending displays of all time.
  15. All true, but it is important to remember that they played the entire season without Petr Nedved, who was holding out. He had 38 goals the previous year, so that was no small hole to fill. Once he was eventually traded (I know he wasn't actually traded, but signed as an RFA with St. Louis leading to compensation (Craig Janney) that was eventually traded back to St. Louis), the Canucks pulled in a great return that solidified their back end, and began to turn things around. Jeff Brown and Bret Hedican (also picked up Nathan LaFayette for Nedved/Janney) were a huge part of their defense in that '94 run. It did take a while for things to gel, but once McLean got hot, and they came back against Calgary, they played some of the best hockey that I'd ever seen. Eventually, they played the Rangers (best team in the regular season with 112 points) and were within a goal of beating that team. I'd say they showed a ton of character.
  16. '94 for me. That team was so likeable. As good as the 2011 team was, players like Raffi Torres and Max Lapierre tainted things a little for me. Still cheered hard for them, and was so pissed when they lost to Boston. I have a vivid memory from May of 1994. I was 17, and at the Super Value at Como Lake Village shopping mall in Coquitlam, buying some food to go camping. I noticed this tall, gangly looking guy walking ahead of me. He was limping noticeably, and looked incredibly skinny. As we both approached the check out counter, he turned and we made eye contact. Greg Adams! I was a little star struck, and very shocked at how gaunt and tired he looked. All I could think to say was "Good luck tomorrow". His eyes lit up, he thanked me with a smile, and limped away. The next day, the Canucks came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Leafs in double overtime of game 5 to win the series 4-1. That bag of skin and bones, Greg Adams, scored the tying goal, and the winning goal, which became one of the greatest sound bites in Canucks history after a great call by Jim Robson.
  17. In fairness, the article isn't a negative one. The headline is very misleading.
