  1. Considering they had to scratch Jensen to get Gaunce in, I agree. Different situation of course where Baertschi could have still been playing with Utica instead of being called up. Virtanen and McCann's teams are out of it, so they wouldn't be doing anything otherwise.
  2. So, don't expect to see Virtanen or McCann in without a solid reason.
  3. And Gaunce looking like he'll get in tonight: http://www.uticacomets.com/round-1-playoff-notebook/
  4. Most of the players we've had go the college route have done at least half the full college career, and I think most of them have finished their education after going pro. Does it matter if they do all 4 years at the school while playing for them or just that they finish their degree?
  5. And they're probably where NHL suspensions should be.
  6. So 2 games remaining in suspension.
  7. I hope as many people that can be come out safe, never a good thing for any tragedy as a result of a natural event.
  8. Only a couple of minutes behind.
  9. Looks like he was up on the left side of Friesen and Conacher in today's game. That's a change from the bottom 6 role he usually has, and shows the coach has faith in him.
  10. Sorry to hear that but glad you get to take in a game live. Let us know how he did.
  11. So Virtanen is just going to come into a down room and cheer everyone up by flashing his pearly whites? Or he'll be the only one on the ice trying? I disagree they're all unwilling, by the way. Seems like he can still toss a punch as needed, and I'm sure a hit or two. They don't have to all beat him with speedy play and offensive prowess. Maybe Virtanen could come in and play just as if he was playing against junior aged players, but then again we've seen it far to often go the other way. But of course it's moot until his team is done in the playoffs.
  12. Honestly, I didn't see much of anything from Vey last night and that second line isn't going anywhere. Sedin Sedin Vrbata Baertschi Bonino Matthias Kenins Horvat Hansen Higgins Vey Dorsett Assuming Richardson stays out, otherwise he'd replace Vey.
  13. Actually, he would be. As well as the paper transactions there's also this part of the playoff roster deadline rule: Bo falls in the first half of that, where Sautner and others fall in the second half even though they weren't on the playoff eligibility list. By comparison, if Kenins wasn't sent down on a paper transaction he wouldn't be eligible since he isn't on a ATO and isn't one of our signed draft picks.
  14. Again, because he's going to be able to do something that Kenins, Dorsett, Matthias, Sbisa, Bieksa or anyone else can't?
  15. I'd still rather push Higgins to the right side and then bring Baertschi in, but maybe Vey will surprise.
  16. Green was just on TSN1040 and noted Gaunce received the most improved player award this year. Maybe we'll see an article on that and what players won the other awards - and I just searched and if course there is: http://canucksarmy.com/2015/4/17/comets-militia-down-on-the-farm-april-17th-2015/score
  17. So he could take out Ferland with one hand tied behind his back? He's not going to get thrown in and suddenly help us score goals, and the league just told both teams today they want the extra-curricular to stop, so how do you think he'll be useful?
  18. Because he would do something to Ferland? I guess that answers that question...
  19. Ruh oh. I'm nowhere near Delta so won't be able to keep an eye out but make sure to put up a pic on FB with the PetFinder and dog park groups in the area. Hope the little guy makes it home safe! Here's a good pic of mine supporting the Canucks though:
  20. But would they be willing to trade for him? LA has Quick so that's a non starter, and Anaheim has two young goalies (but could use a vet short term if they fail yet again these playoffs) while San Jose is rebuilding but rumoured to be looking for a young, up and coming goalie rather than a vet. Would we have to retain salary to make it happen, and if so, how much? What would the return be? I don't think it's a given we can move Miller over one of the other two. Although I do see the benefit of bringing him in, I wasn't a fan of the move - particularly for the term and cap hit. It may take retaining salary and very little in return (or a cap dump for cap dump type trade) to move him. I'd like to see Markstrom (and Lack) stay, but I'm not so sure it'll work out that way.
  21. 'We' know we need to trade a goalie before next season and would like to get a good return. If that means Markstrom, cool, but otherwise the only really likely option is Lack. Miller is unlikely considering his contract (including limited NTC). So desi, are you saying to want to trade Lack's character away?
  22. But yeah, I don't think Baertschi will be a saviour of any kind for us, especially when you consider the Bonino line was one of if not our worst last night. Adding Baertschi to the mix isn't going to have the Bennett-like effect you're all hoping for. I wouldn't mind seeing him up to see more of what he can do (and I agree that Matthias had some issues with his overall game last night and will likely be replaced by Baertschi next year) but he'll do well with the experience of leading the Comets through the playoffs.
  23. I guess that settles it, let's all pack up and go home... But there's nothing yet at this point we can count as evidence that Demko will be better in the NHL than Schneider. Demko has a great base so far and looks like he'll be an excellent goalie, but Markstrom was the best goalie outside the NHL at one point and he's still working to make it even as a backup. But, this is the Virtanen thread. Maybe he's a little cocky, but many other good players have been as well. Shinkaruk has that trait right now, along with just plain being super happy whenever a goal is scored. Kesler was cocky and moody at the same time. Linden had quiet confidence. It's not a big deal unless he turns it into a negative like we've seen with other players and I don't see that in his social media presence or stories of people seeing/meeting him.
