  1. "Why hasn't Sautner signed a PTO yet... oh wait." Yup, we haven't announced we're going to let him walk, yet people are saying McNally is done for because he's had more than enough opportunities. I don't know what those opportunities are, and McNally is still a talented offensive defenceman, so I don't know why we'd rush to judgement on him. But back to Sautner, good to see he's signed the PTO so he can play a game or two at least in Utica. We'll ahve to see what he can bring and hopefully he can develop nicely.
  2. Only in the EA Sports NHL games is that 'the whole deal.' As Goose mentioned, in the real world it's more about cost savings for a player on a two-way deal who would be more likely to be sent down to the AHL and then save the NHL club hundreds of thousands over a year. It's a coincidence that they'd also be waiver exempt, or at least not good enough for waivers to matter, since they'd be more likely to be sent down or else have earned a one-way deal.
  3. But that's even more confusing than fantastic.
  4. Sorry, yes. Got my B's confused. I'll concede to you then on that, but I was confused with you being overly positive with the 'fantastic' comment.
  5. Hodgson played on the PK in Brampton and was even voted in the OHL coaches poll as a quality defensive player. Clearly we know how that worked at the NHL level (talking about his defensive ability, not his overall downfall). A good defensive play, doesn't make him fantastic defensively - even for his age - but it does suggest he isn't a liability.
  6. And I'm not saying he's young and has forever to prove himself still, but he choose to stay in school after the cheating scandal. I can respect that decision, but this will be his first real opportunity to go pro and the poster before mine was making it sound like he's had multiple opportunities or has failed at training camps to impress. Benning and Co. will decide if he gets signed before August and then we'll see if he can take advantage of a pro opportunity or not. We have that leeway, why rush it or assume he's not returning because he doesn't have a deal yet?
  7. Seriously? Glad you could be of help to the guy. But if it's not on Shaw I'd suggest checking if the WHL streams the games. I know the AHL does but haven't looked for the WHL/CHL. If it's on Shaw but you don't have that channel, maybe a pub around you might and would put it on for you (or a friend's house, etc.). EDIT: a quick Google search seems to have solved the mystery. Shaw has their WHL playoffs broadcast schedule online for easy access, and it looks like today's game is Kootenay vs Calgary at 7pm. http://whl.ca/article/2015-whl-playoffs-on-shaw-round-1-schedule- If you notice on the right it also has options for how to watch/listen to the game. There are links to radio and the WHL's Neulion streaming service (same service the AHL uses I think) if you don't have Shaw to watch it on TV. But that's cool, Ossi, I appreciate that you're concerned about my bowels.
  8. Huh? How many opportunities has he had as a pro? None that I know of, and this will likely be his first opportunity barring the NCAA allowing him eligibility to play for next year too. I'm not even sure I'd recommend he go that route if it was offered, but just because he hasn't signed with the Canucks yet doesn't mean he isn't going to before he becomes a free agent on August 1st. But we haven't yet heard if and when Sautner will get a game in the pros this season either, just that he got a deal earlier since other teams also had interest and we couldn't wait until later to sign him like we can with Subban and McNally.
  9. I think we all agree he has NHL plus or even elite level shot and skating, and his frame is certainly NHL-ready physically. Where people are talking about his skill level potentially not being enough is in part the IQ portion but also his ability to do more than just skate down the wing past the defender and snipe one home. There's a lot more to a solid NHL offensive game than that, and if he wants to be more than a bottom 6 player, he'll have to prove he has that capability.
  10. To a point, sort of. What we're talking about is a high enough level skill to warrant him being taken where he did. He does have skill, but it's definitely arguable that his physical maturity and skating had as much if not more to do with his scoring success so early as outright skill. And I know it was his last OHL season, but Tom Sestito scored 42 by virtue of being a big player with good enough hands to be productive around the net. Virtanen has to prove he's more than what could at least be a very effective 3rd liner and I look forward to seeing how he progresses in that.
  11. Do they still have Slingbox? WHL streams as well don't they? If you're asking about illegal streams you're doing it in the wrong place.
  12. @brendanmburke: Expect to see D Ben Hutton (@bhutt10) make his pro debut tonight for the #Comets. Recently finished collegiate career at @MaineIceHockey.
  13. I think people are way overstating Eriksson's situation. I know it's been stated he may go back to the SEL, but that was if he was 2nd string in the AHL with no chance at the NHL. If he's top dog with Utica next year and can fill in for injuries in the NHL, that would likely still be attractive for him, especially if Utica continues their winning ways. Of course if we do bring in O'Connor (not that it's likely, but definitely possible) then he may change his tune, but I think there's a fair to good chance he's back as the starter in Utica next year. That'd give him a couple years to figure it out there until Demko comes up, and then he'll have a choice to make.
  14. That's fortunate, you should at least have his name spelled correctly.
  15. Yup, if they wanted him to be a PP QB, they would have been better to just pick up Nylander. But as far as this hypothetical re-draft is concerned, don't forget if players like Pasternak hadn't been drafted they wouldn't have come to the AHL/NHL. Their season this year might have been very different considering. Players like Nylander and Pasternak may still have come over - possibly to junior though - but the situations would have most likely been a continuation of their previous year.
  16. Which of course isn't the case so it still doesn't make sense. It's not like his example is that way either, where all Bruins draft picks don't suddenly become property of the Oshawa Generals.
  17. That doesn't make sense. How would such a team trade for all our prospects so we can develop them? We wouldn't even know they were our prospects until they were 18 or so, and then they'd only have 1 or 2 more seasons in junior.
  18. About which part, the consensus? Or the no-brainer?
  19. The same things I saw at them prior to the draft last summer, except more of it a year later. Virtanen has shown mostly the same as well, but he wasn't the consensus no-brainer guy then, and he isn't the consensus no-brainer guy now. But really, my comment was to acknowledge that having the same draft a year later with another year to evaluate the players might change people's minds. Maybe that works in Virtanen's favour, maybe it doesn't. Well, that's kinda why it's your hypothetical scenario then isn't it?
  20. I don't think the top 4 changes, but maybe the Isles just choose Pasternak over Dal Colle. Or we decide to pick Pasternak, or Nylander, Ehlers or even Fiala. Or we make that trade for a better pick and get Reinhart or Ekblad.
  21. My Gaunce sig isn't a coincidence as he's one of the prospects I watch a little more closely, but what makes you think Grenier will be released? He's got one more year of waivers free AHL development, and they'll surely use it before making a decision on if he's a player they can include in a package for something better, or if he can be a player in the NHL for us the year after. Grenier's a bit of a raw player, who has been putting a more complete game together this year which is nice to see. By comparison Gaunce is that more complete player already, who's finding offence through hard work despite not being given the same offensive opportunities (PP, top 6 linemates) as Grenier has been getting.
  22. People should honestly forget about the 9 game limit rule. It's become some misunderstood thing like how two-way contracts have become synonymous with waiver eligibility.
  23. @elvispocomo Well he's one more defensive injury away from having to play. But once this team clinches a playoff spot, we could see him. That from Brendan Burke, after he's not in tonight's game either.
