Did you mean to post another video by a much better rapper?

So Baertschi stunk it up in camp every year and then got moved before he was waiver eligible after showing some promise in his call ups but still being behind others on the NHL roster? I get what you mean to a point but their situations aren't that similar. I don't think Baertschi has had trouble in camp so much, and Grabner wasn't necessarily disparaged in his time here like Burke did with Baertschi.
-
You're only a couple days late on that one. Maybe you'll want to read the clarification a few posts later before you have a brain hemorrhage.

Gaunce with the 3-2 go ahead goal just now for the Comets against Rochester. Looks like he started the night playing with Friesen and Conacher, but Grenier and O'Reilly got the assists so maybe the lines got switched up.
-
That's misleading, making it sound like he led those categories. He was actually: 7th with 6 votes in the best player category 1st with 56 votes in the best shot category 9th (tied) with 10 votes in the most irritating player category 3rd with 21 votes in the best drafted player category

If only he'd been born with a third leg instead of that stupid shoulder...

So that opens up one spot. We have to add Baertschi and Corrado as our newly waiver eligible players (Clendening will be too, but he's already in the lineup), so you're half way to just getting them in the lineup. In the forwards we'll need one spot for Baertschi, and then another just to give Virtanen 9 games. They're both lefties, so Higgins makes sense, but then you're dropping two centers in Bonino and Richardson. We'd have Matthias, Horvat and Vey still as centers (Gaunce would at best be a 4th line center if anything) so that'd be a big ask for one of them to step up to that role. Then, there's the question of what happens if Virts doesn't stick and then who fills in for him from there. I'm not saying they're terrible suggestions (at least you have some!) but it's a big gamble to move proven players - particularly top 6 - to give a prospect a 9 game audition.
-
So again, who would you risk losing on waivers just so he can play in 9 games before going back to junior if we don't make enough spots for him? Or if we do make trades and let people go, who is expendable enough to make sure we have room for Virtanen's tryout while still making room for the other players that will be newly waiver eligible next year? That's why it'll have to be very close for him making the team to actually get to see NHL regular season games. If he's not that close they'll send him to junior at the end of preseason.
-
It's possible that doesn't, but I'm not sure as he was an emergency call up prior to the paper transaction. Then again, he was sent down and Eriksson called up afterwards anyway.
-
It's possible someone has an injury either coming into camp, or as a result of camp and it opens a spot. What's also possible is we still have too many players who deserve a look over Virtanen and he goes down anyway. It's certainly not guaranteed he gets 9 games regardless. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the offseason to make space, and if they find a deal on anyone else that could take his spot.
-
There's plenty of reasons for him not to be, I listed a few in my post previous to the one you replied to. If he's not ready then forcing him into the NHL would be bad. That would be worse than a "useless" year in junior. And it doesn't matter how confident Benning and Linden are in him, they haven't said he deserves to be in the NHL next year regardless of how he performs. What they have said is they want to make sure that opportunity is open for him if he does show he's ready. Being open to the option is letting them do their job, not twisting that into saying he's 1000% making the NHL next year. No guarantee of that at all. First of all, 10 games would burn a year of his deal, so I think you mean 9 games. Even then, if they don't feel he's ready then they'll have to send him back before the season starts unless they've found a way to make roster moves. Otherwise, they'll have almost all players on the roster already who require waivers. Which of them would you like to send down just so Virtanen can play 9 games?
-
We did, Markstrom, Kenins and Clendening were a part of the paper transactions then we called up Corrado shortly after. We can still call up more than 4 if we have injuries though.
-
Yup, I remember something along the lines of "he's for sure on the team next year" from you, Ban. What's that? People make outlandish statements they don't really believe are true on the internet? EDIT: and jdatb, I totally got your point regardless of how it was worded that many people wished Horvat was AHL-eligible in case he didn't make the NHL team.
-
Corrado's been bumped down to get some game time as well, so look for him to fill in.
-
^ It is by no means the guarantee you make it sound that he makes the team next year. There are question about what the situation will be like with the Hitmen if he returns there, but that shouldn't be the decider if he sticks with the Canucks or not. Or he won't be mentally ready, or he won't find it as easy doing what he does against NHL'ers, or he'll just have a poor camp, or, or, or...
-
I'd challenge that assumption. He'd have to be doing amazing things to think he could be a call up here and fix any offensive problems we might have. So long as Utica is doing well in the playoffs he'll likely stay in the AHL. Maybe we see a small call up as an injury replacement during the tail end of the regular season but that's about it.
-
It's not that the 4 players that were paper transactioned are the only ones that can be called up. Anyone can be used as a call up, but that can only be used 4 times after the deadline. As you say there are emergency call ups too but that avoids teams just calling up players whenever they feel like it, or for extra bodies as you say since we brought back 3 of those 4 paper transactions and then called up Corrado later too. As av said, there are no limits once playoffs start though, so if the Comets are out or have extras, the Canucks can call them up.

I don't know if that's a perfect 1 for 1 but maybe not too bad. Here's a little sound bite from his coach earlier in the year: http://www.uscho.com/2014/10/01/ten-to-watch-meet-some-of-college-hockeys-impact-defensemen-for-2014-15/

Canucks Army had a post today on Subban that people who are worried should go read: http://canucksarmy.com/2015/3/17/will-the-canucks-get-jordan-subban-signed The only bonus money he'd get right away would be a signing bonus; he'd have to wait for any performance related bonuses. It's still nice to get a paycheck though, even if the AHL contract they'll get him on to play with Utica now won't be anything great.
-
I think so as well. EDIT: particularly since they were wearing the Millionaires stuff at practice today.
-
I've only heard it about Eriksson as well. Markstrom will have an NHL job since we'll either keep him up or he'll get claimed by someone else.
-
I'm posting a new thread as well, but wanted to put it here for discussion as well since a lot of people still follow this thread and might miss a new one.

There's a lot of extreme back and forth going on here after much of the original comments were reasonably middle of the road. I think the pro-Jake crowd has been a too harsh on a number of the people pointing out flaws or being cautious about his game. Virtanen is doing well, but to say we would be happy if his offence didn't translate as expected to the NHL level and all we were left with was a big body with speed. That's not good enough for the highest pick we've had in a long, long time and are likely to get for awhile. There's certainly no reason to be throwing out the 'bust' tag but it's absolutely reasonable to be concerned over consistency in production in his draft +1 year in the very least, and also to understand how other prospects drafted around him are achieving and doing pretty well in large part. I'm not even going to say something as strong as I'm worried since it's so early on, but I'm also not going to say I wouldn't like to be seeing more from what will likely be our highest draft pick we get during this retool. No one's arguing that he doesn't have a lot of good skills, but what we are saying is we'd like to see a little more from him considering where he was picked. That's rich, coming from you who is all but guaranteeing Virts makes the team next year. He's just saying Virtanen is an asset that would be asked for by other teams if we wanted to move up and get a quality player in this draft. And he's right, on that and also that we likely won't be getting Barzal with where we sit in the draft order currently. Maybe we drop in the standings and he drops in the rankings so that we can meet somewhere in the middle, but it's not very likely at this point.

Why would he be up for the playoffs? The Comets will still be playing.
