  1. I agree, he'll have better upside as a wing, even if he could be a very effective bottom 6 center.
  2. Yup, sounded like he was quite involved and had a good game.
  3. Nice move for sure, confident play. Not sure what he turns out to be at the pro level, but his stint in Utica seemed promising and next year will be a big step for him.
  4. Obviously a lot left to prove, but that sets the expectation he'll have a legit shot just as guys like Horvat and Shinkaruk have had recent years. EDIT: here's the link to the full interview: https://soundcloud.com/team-radio-interviews/sekeres-price-benning-jan-8 Also noted he had a real good tourny, pro-style body already, powerful skater and good shot, physical player. Will have to have a good summer but hopes he comes in and competes. It'll be a big step. Drafted him for his unique style (strength/skill combo) and they're excited but going forward want to be sure he's developed properly. Don't want to put him in a situation he can't handle but hopes he can challenge for a spot.
  5. I'd suggest you mention that to the poster before him, since he was the one to bring it up. But then, people are always going to mention the two, as well as others potentially. Might as well just accept that. Considering we just played Detroit, Datsyuk and Zetterberg say, "hi." Lidstrom might just want to come back to the rink for a day to say, "me too." Even if it plays out as you suggest above, saying people will be laughing at having wanted one over the other is the reason why Nylander/Ehlers fans keep bringing them up in this thread. Then, of course, if it doesn't play out as you suggest, then I guess everyone else could be laughing at you.
  6. That's been my only hope since we signed Miller. I don't mind the signing, I just mind the term with all the younger talent we have in goal. Demko looked like he was trying to get out of a few spots with his athleticism, and if he's able to do that without getting into too much trouble then I'm all for it. He can certainly play the positional game pretty well and cover a little with his long legs and big body, he'll just have to be smart about it. EDIT: reading some of the earlier comments, figured I should add that I didn't think he was the problem at all in today's game. Some bad deflections and all that, but sometimes when you get a goalie on his game he's in the way of even those. He wasn't the goalie to change the game for his team.
  7. Actually, I saw an upcoming Harvard/Yale game in the guide when setting up some recordings recently. I think it was week after next if anyone wants to watch it. Keep an eye out. Wrong prospect, I know but people might be interested. EDIT: TSN2 is airing the Harvard/Yale game on January 10. It's a 5pm start.
  8. You can't ignore that he bobbled it a little though, and that made everything a little harder from there. If the communication had worked he and the defenceman could have pulled out of it but it ended up being an even unluckier result.
  9. I'd love to see him get more prime opportunities. I'll be keeping an eye to see if they experiment again.
  10. That's nice, then stop bringing up other players. You're the one that said people who "blow Nylander and Ehlers" should shut up because Virtanen had played well, not me. If it comes up in relation to the topic at hand, I'll discuss it. I'm not sure why you're bringing it up though. Do you have a point you'd like to say more succinctly?
  11. Were those 11 goals from a tougher angle, with you off balance and a goalie actually in good position to stop it? Just saying it's a tough shot but I also agree that as much as these players are extremely talented sometimes they try things that just happen to come off but might not if they tried them again. I'm so glad you joined in. Especially right after both were coming off excellent games. Smart move.
  12. Yeah, shaky on that goal with how he played it (communication error between he and his defenceman?) and I would have liked to see him play a little tighter to that post after the turnover but if it's just nerves and he holds the US net as the starter then that's fine.
  13. Did you see Nylander's go ahead goal or Ehler's slapper? Why even bring them up when they had equally good games? Quit trolling, it's a Virtanen thread. We can all agree it's a very tough shot, but then again my favourite goal I ever scored was very similar (rebound off the end boards). The biggest differences were I was deeper and had to reach back across the goal line and then shoot it, but then even with a split second longer to control it the goalie was already hugging the post so I had to put it over his shoulder into the top corner. It might have been minor hockey (my Bantam year I think) rather than the world juniors but it's still proof that even a grinder like me can score a highlight reel goal from a difficult angle with limited reaction time. I'll take that from Virts though, even if he does miss the next 4 like it.
  14. Well, we did recently play Sweden and there will always be a comparison there. Blame the guy who started talking about Nylander's performance in that game.
  15. Well, it's kinda a big hint having the medal underneath. Similarly, McCartan was the goalie for the 1960 goal medal winning US team. Well, he is American. It's not that surprising he'd develop in the US system.
  16. Looks like he has a new mask painted up:
  17. Yeah, it's different, but until they make all the cuts I'm sure they aren't going to do much in the way of preferred numbers.
  18. If it did mean something, it'd mean they consider DalColle as nothing more than a 5th liner right now. Clearly that's not the case.
  19. That's more like it, hopefully he starts to take off offensively as well as showing he can play a responsible, safe game.
  20. Yeah, he could test FA, but I doubt there's much chance of that happening - particularly if he doesn't think he'll have a bidding war waiting for him.
  21. Following him playing in Sweden putting up over a point per game against pros. Do you have to bring it up every time Virtanen does something nice as if it's some sort of confirmation of victory, especially if you're annoyed at the sympathizers bringing him up when he's doing well? They're different players and it'll be a long time before we see who is the better player at the NHL level.
