  1. Unless I'm misreading it, it looks like the Maine/UMass-Lowell game on December 6th is being televised on TSN2 (5PM start). It'll be nice to get a chance to watch Hutton through a full game.
  2. Yeah, I don't know what kind of system they have set up, but they haven't really had anything from their goalie pipeline since Brodeur. That's likely a bad sign either of drafting or development, or both.
  3. My first impression on the reply was that it hit Barrie's stick, not Horvat's. But in case people haven't seen it yet: It's Henrik telling Bo he gets the opening faceoff. Wish we could have heard what they said, but still cool to have it documented and then have him win the first one too.
  4. But of course he didn't say the contrary, at least not in that post. All he noted was that basing how he'll perform overall in the NHL solely on his offensive production in the AHL is a large assumption to make, and he's right. If he's contributing in other areas, as he has been in the AHL, then it'll give him good chance to find his footing offensively as well.
  5. I disagree, he can't make it one one specialty alone, even if we are weak in that area. It's like a football team keeping a center in their starting lineup just because he's great at snapping the ball. If he can't then keep the defence from breaking through and sacking the QB every time, then he's not much use. We'll have to see how he does with NHL quality linemates over the next few games. He may still get sent back to junior if he can't contribute in a number of ways.
  6. Just an aside that likely isn't worth it's own thread, but New Jersey is putting Clemmenson on waivers today. He's come in in relief in two games (Schneider's started all 11 games so far) and has allowed four goals on 17 shots for a .765 save percentage and 6.49 GAA. Not impressive at all. Devils to waive Clemmensen Yeah, that's me suggesting they consider a Larsson trade for Markstrom. We'd have to add another piece, but maybe if they aren't sold on their goalies in the minors.
  7. I know we did that exactly for Ryan Parent when we got him in the Shane O'Brien trade. He cleared waivers but wasn't assigned right away. My understanding is if he's called back up it doesn't immediately require him to clear waivers again, only if he's met that same criteria.
  8. Tom Renney, with Hockey Canada talking about the World Juniors.
  9. There's more to hockey than just size or physicality.
  10. Actually, that's only for players signing with a team other than the one that last held their rights (to accommodate both UFAs and RFAs). Since the Canucks hold his rights in the NHL after drafting him, if he came over after having already played part of the season in the KHL then he wouldn't have to pass through waivers. The Ryan O'Reilly example covers it well, where he would have had to clear waivers to play with Calgary (since they didn't hold his RFA rights) but there was no waivers for him to return to Colorado.
  11. No idea who that is, but it's the KHL/NHL agreement where they won't sign players under contract already in the opposing league. Tryamkin and his KHL team would have to agree to buy out his contract if he wanted to leave early for the NHL.
  12. A conditioning stint is usually reserved for players not having played in a longer period due to injury. Horvat being out for a week or two is unlikely to have a conditioning stint approved since he's been healthy all summer and has played both in the preseason and the young stars tourney.
  13. I had something similar in rugby, where I separated my sternum-clavicular (opposite end of the collar bone from a separated shoulder). That took a bit to fully heal for contact and movement, but for Horvat he didn't react the way I felt when I got hurt so I'd be tempted to say it's just soreness.
  14. You can look at it from the perspective that they're only a few months apart in age, which suggests it's very close, or from the perspective one played a year earlier in junior, which points out that that the earlier experience likely helps. Now, none of that talks about ability, but when the CHL needs to be a proper development league and can only do so by staying profitable to an extent - especially with their education scholarships - having to give 4 years of eligibility isn't such a big deal. If all the stars left when they got close then the CHL as a whole would make less money as a lesser product, and that'd mean less money to develop players so we wouldn't have the likes of Horvat and Shinkaruk as far along as they are.
  15. Not while he's still under the KHL contract. It's not like a junior player that's finished their season and can come play in the AHL or NHL, think of it more like a college player who (if he wants to go back to college the next season) can't play in another professional league). If they want to void their college eligibility, they can choose to play pro and not look back. Of course, Tryamkin can't just choose to leave the KHL if he wants. He'd either have to buy out of his deal there or wait for it to finish. I highly doubt we see him before those two years are up.
  16. Just to further clarify, the ELC's they sign have nothing to do with if they can go to Utica or have to go back to junior. Shinkaruk also qualifies for the AHL because he's played a year more in junior than Horvat (Shink started junior in 2010/11 where Horvat started in 2011/12). Once a player has 4 years of junior they can play in the AHL regardless of age.
  17. They play totally different positions, but maybe that's just one of the extras that makes the spot open.
  18. I was thinking it was more than one game for some reason. Regardless...
  19. I'm fine with that as well, but he didn't look out of place in the AHL as far as I could tell last year.
  20. I was about to ask where you saw that then I actually read the Canucks release: http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=731303
  21. Absolutely, I think Cederholm goes back to junior rather than try for limited pro spots, and McEneny goes pro to get a push for better competition since he's more capable offensively.
  22. I got a few of Gaunce but have yet to download them from my camera.
  23. Exactly. He might not wow you with flash and offence, but he's a guy you'll be glad to have on your team.
