  1. You aren't even sure what you aren't winning people over on, so I'll leave it at that.
  2. You aren't winning anyone over, Plum.
  3. He's played center, but doesn't project as one at the NHL level I don't think.
  4. Ok, it's a little funny, but people are talking about Jensen and Kassian in the McCann Talk thread, while we're now talking about McCann in the Horvat Talk thread.
  5. A little behind the scenes stuff from Demko:
  6. EDIT: and of course, VC there first. I guess I don't have to post this in the Horvat thread either, eh VC?
  7. We'll see what's going on as it gets closer to the actual tourney, but I'd think unless there's an obvious reason to drop him the US selectors will wait and see who steps up over time. EDIT: And a little more:
  8. Doesn't mean we couldn't either. It's not like we're arguing that he'd be in the same boat as any other 4th line plug playing minimal minutes and trading time in the press box. We're saying there's a pretty optimal situation where he could play on the 4th line but have more responsibility than the aforementioned plugs, yet you keep arguing like that's not possible and there's no way anything could ever possibly work if he has a '4th line' label attached to him to start his rookie NHL season.
  9. You do know what happens when you assume, right? You make an ass out of you and... well not me in this case because this is all your doing. That kind of logic would be ...well, too logical. Granted I didn't factor in ice time that might be lost when we'd be shorthanded, but that might balance if we use 4 forwards on the PP. It's just an exercise of dividing up 60 minutes between 4 forward lines. Not every player on each line will have the exact same time due to extra shifts, line changes, PK/PP time, etc. The point is though that if Horvat is up here - even if he plays on the 4th line - then he'll likely play more than the minimal minutes our 4th line played last year. But I'll give up there, I bang my head enough as is with some of the others on CDC so I've no interest to carry on for you.
  10. Because '4th line' is just a label. Would you prefer it were called '3B line'? And who says he'd be playing as many or more minutes than the 3rd line? Horvat might be able to be sheltered better against tougher competition in certain situations. Those situations aren't typically 5 on 5 regular minutes. Other players may be better in those types of situations and Horvat can be used more sparingly in controlled situations. Or the lines could go like this for total minutes, still with the possibility for individuals fluctuating based on minutes in other situations: 1st: 18-20 minutes 2nd: 14-16 minutes 3rd: 12-15 minutes 4th: 10-12 minutes You can add those up a lot of different ways if you can roll 4 lines properly and have all lines get decent minutes. It doesn't mean he'll end up with 5 minutes a game.
  11. You're severely limited in your view on what a 4th line role would be for Horvat. That doesn't mean he couldn't be used in other roles(i.e. taking extra shifts, PP and PK time, having the 4th on ice against better quality competition, etc.) No point in debating you on it, since I think that's been covered more than well enough by now, but Horvat making it on 4th to start isn't a problem so long as he's not used in a traditional 4th line plug role of only 3-5 minutes and no extra time.
  12. I think someone needs to throw in the towel for Plum on this one - he's talked himself in circles and is eating his own tail. Most athletes use the offseason to try and gain back muscle mass lost during the previous season. Particularly in the case of prospects still growing and developing, they're trying to build their strength beyond what it ever had been to prepare for a career as a professional and that can mean adding unwanted weight at the same time. When that happens, players typically are able to lose that extra weight as part of their normal training leading up to the season. Having 10 lbs he'd like to lose doesn't mean he's been on the Big Buff offseason diet or that he's genetically predisposed to weight gain. It's much more likely he's just training naturally and he'll be tightening up that training as we get closer to training camp to focus more on fitness and becoming more lean to help his skating and endurance after having built up some muscle mass earlier in the offseason.
  13. Well, I don't think that's an all-but-guarantee for him to make it, but rather Linden discussing the possibility of letting him go to the World Juniors if he does make it.
  14. Yeah, tough to do when dropping an older player from the line up might involve waivers and having them lost for nothing if you can't trade them. That's not good asset management, but on the other hand you want young players who can step up to play.
  15. Two words: Bo drag. But really, you're right in that he won't be an electric player like Shinkaruk or Virtanen have potential to be. He will be an unsung hero kind of guy though, where much of his hard work goes unnoticed but he still puts up consistent points year after year.
  16. They still have to pass the criteria in the CHL/NHL agreement though. We couldn't not sign Virtanen for instance, then sign him to a tryout contract and have him play in the AHL. His CHL team still holds his rights outside of the NHL while he's still CHL eligible.
  17. Love that behind the scene/insider stuff, but you can also see later in the video when Benning's back at the table talking with Linden about Virtanen, the guy next to them (who I believe is Eric Crawford) says, "it's pretty much going according to plan," about the draft order.
  18. Mine sits upside down like that all the time, sometimes when he's trying to catch his tail: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152159719247601&l=1526597852577502640
  19. Prior to Erie, he was on a team in Belleville that wasn't that good, but he had all the top matchups and the best opportunities. In moving to Erie, he took on the tough matchups still (maybe even more so) but his offensive opportunities were a bit less. He did still see PP time and get mixed time with their top offensive guys at time, but was relied upon more to free up McDavid playing on the other line. I do like how you're concerned over his point totals not having risen in junior yet still proclaim him to have more NHL offensive upside than Richardson at this point. I'd be very surprised if he becomes the center on the 4th line and manages more than 23 points (Richardson's points total from last year). First post in the Gaunce thread with my new sig though!
  20. I thought Tort's was a dog person? Time to put up more of my own though - first an old one of our middle dog as a puppy: Then our smallest one sleeping: And finally our big puppy and I after doing some invasive plant species removal (pulling ivy) from a local park:
