Three little words, but that give me a lot more background on if I should believe that or not.

http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=725826 Looking forward to what this guy can bring as he continues to develop.
-
I'm in, not that it makes a difference in what actually happens!
-
At the very least he'll come to camp and the decision will be made from there if he gets any NHL games or if we even have the space to keep him for 9 games.
-
There are certainly signs he wasn't just gladhanding to get drafted. That's the case right now, and trying to argue a future that could be different or the same is a little tough to do. It's always good to be aware of the possibilities, but there isn't much in the way of evidence at this point to support your opinion. Let's worry about that bridge if it ever gets built. And if Russia was better than Canada, yes. I get that there's your home country and everything, but I would think about leaving Canada if I had a chance to pursue my dream in another country so long as it had similar or better prospects, both culturally and economically.
-
Because he wants to? He states specifically in the video he wants to come to the NHL in 2 years.
-
It'd be very surprising that any junior team would release their rights to a player so an NHL team could play them in the NHL AHL. It was certainly a one off that Jensen was able to, but then he was going to play overseas instead. He'll be in the NHL or OHL this year, not the AHL. EDIT: obviously meant in the AHL
-
Correct, the 9 game rule is just how many games they can play and still have their contract slide. That includes regular season and playoffs, so if we sent him down after 9 then called him back up after his season was over and played him in at least one more game in the playoffs, his contract would be considered in effect rather than sliding one more year. That has no impact on whether he can go to the AHL or if he must got to the OHL. It's NHL or OHL for Horvat this year until the OHL season is over.
-
Minor issue that he can play through with little to no impact, he'll just have to take care of it eventually.
-
I believe prospects are eligible for three attempts at the draft before they can become free agents who can sign with any team. Therefore we couldn't sign him prior to the draft as a free agent and someone else would likely have drafted him with his recent good form.

Just for the record, no one has said Virtanen's shoulder surgery was major I don't think. There is such a thing as a minor surgery, but regardless Virtanen is healing well and should be ready to get back into practicing come October.

[Report] VAN interested in Ryan Miller

He wouldn't be a very good agent if he didn't. -
So, you're saying we should have kept Raymond over Henrik?

[Report] VAN interested in Ryan Miller
elvis15 replied to Strombone1's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
How do we polish up Markstrom's skills so we can trade him if he can't play in the NHL as a result of bringing Miller in and would likely get claimed off of waivers going to the AHL? But I agree with others on Miller, as much as Buffalo was terrible and there may have been an adjustment to St Louis, he's clearly on the downswing. -
BUF initiate compliance buy out on Ehrhoff

Not really the same though. We have so many people on here the ones who often get heard are the worst ones. A smaller online fan base isn't a guarantee of higher quality, but there wasn't much dissension on that point from any of the fans. It's worth noting, and regular 3/4 minutes is an absolute push for Sbisa. Look at the facts, Sbisa was 7th in ice time per game among Duck defenceman who played at least 30 games. Add in Robidas and his 14 games and he drops to 8th. Only Fistric was behind him in ice time. Sbisa was 6th in even strength time, 7th in short handed and only had 14 seconds of PP time per game. The playoffs didn't get any better for him, with only 2 games played and nearly 3 minutes less ice time than the regular season. Vatanen played 3 more games than him and had 6 more minutes per game. Sbisa had more PP time per game in the playoffs (5th on the team), but was still 8th in even strength and 6th in PK. Those aren't indicative of top 4 minutes ahead of any of our other defencemen already playing that much, especially not ahead of anyone on the left side (Hamhuis and Edler). That barely suggest 5/6 D-man. -
[Trade] Sam Gagner dealt to AZ Coyotes

Schroeder doesn't have a bad contract, but still, not much. -
BUF initiate compliance buy out on Ehrhoff
elvis15 replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not according to Anaheim fans he's not. They're happy they could dump him in the deal with us and were tired of his injuries and defensive play not being good enough. He's physical, but isn't a lock to be more than a 3rd pairing D-man, and not even at that if he's outperformed by Stanton. Edler and Hamhuis are still higher on the depth chart as well. -
[Rumor] Canucks will make a serious attempt at Iginla
elvis15 replied to canuckbeliever's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'd do two years for Iggy for sure, even at an overpayment to a point for his UFA status. He'd be aware if it isn't a fit we could look to trade him of course, and his prorated cap hit at the deadline might suddenly be affordable to a contender - especially if they move some cap back to us (hopefully something we can use since I wouldn't want a straight cap dump). Correct. He's been a player I've maintained might be better moving to make space for younger players if we can't move others. Nothing against his season last year at all as I think he'll return to form and would hate to see him do so elsewhere, but he was a player we used too often as a top 6 fill in and might be better with someone like Iginla in free agency and opening up a bottom 6 spot for someone else. -
BUF initiate compliance buy out on Ehrhoff
elvis15 replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Come on now, you don't think if Bieksa wanted a shorter term deal he also wouldn't have wanted a larger cap hit for more security? And that he wouldn't have understood if another player like Ehrhoff got more money on shorter term if that's what they wanted? Larger money on shorter term wasn't the issue for the Canucks and Ehrhoff. And Ehrhoff got what he desired, but was it really what he wanted? He was already a top offensive pairing and 1st unit PP guy here, we weren't holding him back in the shadow of some other player. Now let's be clear, I never said he was blaming himself. I never said he's fallen off a cliff. What I did say is maybe you should ask him and see how he feels about the outcome of his choice, and maybe he does (or should) blame himself rather than any of us caring to blame him. And I noted his professional career has suffered as a result, with certainly the opinion of him as a player not what it was when he was with us and the Buffalo record overall is pretty black and white. I don't need to get over anything, nor is it a fallacy. You can build a team with a strong internal cap structure and move on from those that don't want to work within it. Teams do it all the time. Ehrhoff chose not to buy into that, and he moved on as a result even though he expressed remorse after the trade, saying he thought they were still negotiating even though it was days before free agency. Another president's trophy and two northwest titles is certainly more than Buffalo has accomplished with Ehrhoff. And if losing Ehrhoff was such a large part of our demise (which still held greater success than Buffalo at everything but getting lottery draft picks) then couldn't Ehrhoff look worse still for his decision? But then you say it yourself, no one knows the exact details of why Ehrhoff left. You seem to claim to know a fair amount about it despite that statement. And again, I've never said he didn't have the right to go to free agency. I have said the Canucks had every right to trade him if they knew that was his plan rather than pay more than what they felt Ehrhoff was worth considering the situation at the time. I agree offence drives contract worth, but how much of his offence here was created by him and how much can be attributed to playing with the Sedins? I know it's been looked at, and certainly the Canucks were considering that, as well as any of Ehrhoff's deficiencies, and they offered a reasonable deal at the time. As has been mentioned, Ehrhoff had one significant offensive season with San Jose before coming here. They chose to dump Ehrhoff's offence from the back end to try and capitalize on offence from the forwards by adding Heatley. That didn't work for them, but they saw a reason to pass on a 40+ point D-man for scraps in return. We saw a reason to offer him a reasonable contract in line with other players on a team that just went to game 7 of the Stanley Cup at least. Ah, but goals - even more than points - drives contract worth the most. -

Offence generally earns more, but Hamhuis and Bieksa are hardly defence-only defencemen. The difference is they're better at other areas than Ehrhoff, so a similar amount of money at that time wasn't unreasonable. And I'm not sure what you're talking about with Garrison, since we clearly didn't buy him out. Do you mean the trade for Ballard? Ballard was brought in to try and further build up our defensive core, a year prior to moving Ehrhoff prior to free agency, so it wasn't completely apparent it wouldn't work out. But we could have dumped Ballard somehow and given some extra to Ehrhoff, it just depends on how much 'extra' Ehrhoff wanted since we don't really know how far Ehrhoff and the Canucks were apart. If he didn't want to accept something reasonable, how would it have affected our cap and ability to sign/re-sign other players going forward? But were they? The team was successful, and apart from players wanting more, like Hodgson and his camp, was there any great discord at that time? Or was Ehrhoff part of the problem? -

That'll depend largely on whether they do work to sign quality UFAs (even if they do it with overpriced contracts) or if they just take underperforming cap dumps to build up picks in order to get to the cap floor. -

Except people do it every day, taking less money to work in a job/place that is better for them despite a higher salary somewhere else. I would do that for sure, to play in a place that had just about won the Stanley Cup, offered an established, successful role and was offering a reasonable contract (as you later corrected yourself on versus the 'low ball' statement above). Look at what happened to him as the alternative, went to a team promising to try and spend to improve, but failed miserably in doing so. Not to knock Buffalo as a city either, but it's hardly Vancouver. His professional career has suffered as a result and he can't get those years back. If all he wanted was to pad his retirement fund with extra millions rather than stay with a competitive hockey team coming off it's best season ever, then I can certainly blame him for that. EDIT: and to be clear, that doesn't mean I hold a grudge against him and wouldn't want him back for that specific reason. Maybe it's better to say he should blame himself rather than any of us blaming him. He put himself in the situation he's in and if he's happier with the money than continued professional success, then so be it. You'll have to ask him if he'd do it the same all over again though. -

Ehrhoff had an NMC and that allowed him the option to choose to go through waivers first or not. Regularly, the NMC would allow him the option of blocking any kind of movement, including waivers. Since this is a buyout though, he can choose to block the waivers (which he's done) but not the buyout. -

Buffalo does one of two things from here: Takes on other teams bad contracts to gain a draft pick (while giving back a lesser one of their own or minor contract). Goes crazy in free agency to sign top players to big contracts. Considering the Florida situation mentioned above, Buffalo could try and go that route - especially since the other alternative is no way to build a team to win games. Maybe that's what they want I guess, but if they do want to go the free agency route it'll be a bit tougher considering they don't at least have Florida's weather as an attraction. But I don't see a spot for Ehrhoff here since people are of course asking. We don't have the roster spot really, and I doubt he'd come for cheap since it's still a thin UFA market. There's a big difference between saying there were more talented players possibly available and saying he's an outright bust. You may want to check your attitude at the door the way you started off commenting. And the first list I checked, McKenzie's, had him at 7th. ISS had him at 7th as well, along with McKeen's, and Central Scouting had him at 6th for North American skaters - arguably still ahead of any European prospects. I didn't think he was worth a 6th overall pick, but you don't see me calling him a bust because he went a few spots earlier than I would have picked him.
