  1. I don't see any problem with this for Lack or Markstrom. Demko won't be playing pro for a few years and that's plenty of time for Markstrom to show he's worthwhile and even for one or the other to emerge as a bonafide starter for us. The other we can move, hopefully with both competing for starting spots, and then Demko might be ready to step in. If anything, it's Eriksson that should be worried, as he'll have a tough time in the near future beating out either of Lack or Markstrom, and he'll soon enough have Demko to contend with as well. With Demko already in the NCAA, he might play less games but he'll play against older competition. He may actually advance faster with only having to adjust to a higher workload as he turns pro.
  2. Interesting pick, certainly nice to see some size on the backend if he turns out. Hope to see some Utica time for him since he should be eligible - just not sure what outs his contract has (in case there's a NA/NHL clause).
  3. It is impressive however that he's healing very quickly. That only helps so much if he keeps getting injured to make use of that talent, but if it does happen could be an asset that he's able to get back quickly.
  4. Less risk but lower upside.
  5. Time for the first surprise pick of the draft. EDIT: not that much of a surprise since it was rumoured Carolina wanted a D-man, but Fluery is a surprise to me going so soon.
  6. That kind of matches my thoughts on it, very good young player that should go near our pick, just maybe not at 6th. If he turns out, could be great, if he doesn't, CDC will be harsh. EDIT: as much as he's not my favourite pick, the attitude of some sadly doesn't surprise me (case and point the poster before me) with how negative they can be about a player who'll likely still turn out to be pretty good.
  7. No surprise. Also no surprise that CDC's IQ just dropped to match the miniscule amount of unused bandwidth still left now.
  8. Glad to see you're realistic about the potential of Nylander.
  9. And if he doesn't, or just becomes a mediocre 3rd liner? Maybe, we can hope. The other option is he continues to get bigger, and follows up drafting Virtanen with trading for Myers and signing Thornton in free agency.
  10. Someone go off the board already, or I still have hope we get Nylander. I just don't think Virtanen is a 6th overall; 8/9/10, sure, but better options at 6 for me.
  11. What happened to the one with only one ear?
  12. It may be just how he phrased his thread, but I know he's done his own mock drafts in the past.
  13. Wait, isn't that the one chickenman just posted? I thought it was his own mock draft (or is he Ian Esplen)? Here's the thread I'm talking about: Final Mock Draft, with Trades
  14. Pretty much my thoughts. It wasn't anything particularly amazing and new that I had to share a new thread, but TRR took it and made a new thread anyway. Apparently me and my 19,993 posts don't know nothing.
  15. God knows what thread this should go in since there are so many Benning threads open, but here is today's interview with him in Philly for the draft: https://soundcloud.com/team-radio-interviews/jim-benning-predraft-june26th-2014 That covers most of it, but it was good to listen to it as well so check out the SoundCloud link above.
  16. Doubt it, but they don't need yet another center and the player(s) they're targeting in the draft will be in the 5th-8th range. The Panthers only have so many suitors they want to deal with because of those limited picks.
  17. There's nothing I saw the directly stated against it when I looked at Article 13 in the CBA, but it also doesn't say anything about a player being excluded from waivers outside the waiver period either. But then looking at the lockout where they had to advance that waiver period for players to be sent down (otherwise the wouldn't have been able to once the lockout started) it makes more sense that teams couldn't just exempt themselves from waivers by sending someone down early. The source being a forum isn't that helpful for me, but then mine is the blogger basics as well (although supported by the CBA). As you say, you'd think we'd remember hearing about players that would be waiver eligible that were able to be sent down outside of the waiver period if that was possible. I'm pretty sure that'd be a big loophole, but I sent a tweet to CapGeek and some others to try and clarify. EDIT: as far as the players sent down earlier in September, all the ones I remember were junior eligible guys, guys on camp invites, and then maybe even some AHL eligible demotions. Last year's camp only started Sept 11 for physicals and fitness testing, and the season started Oct 1, so 20 days later.
  18. CapGeek is your friend: http://capgeek.com/player/1771
  19. 1-way has nothing to do with it of course, but people keep saying that waivers don't exist in the offseason. That's not correct in that we can't send players to the AHL until playing season waiver period is in effect: http://www.mcsorleys-stick.com/nhl-waiver-rules-explained/ So we can't slip Markstrom to the AHL without waivers in August, because the waiver period isn't open yet. Once that period is open to assign players to the AHL, then the waivers rules apply and Markstrom has to pass through waivers starting this year. But don't forget, they had to move up the waiver period prior to the lockout so teams could actually assign younger players to the AHL. From the same link: If anyone has a link that explains they can send players to the AHL prior to this waiver period, I'd like to see it. But, as far as Miller, this is just a phone call. He'll likely want too much and won't have us as a top destination. I don't see the interest going very far, much like the earlier call for Bolland.
