Well, it's a bit more of a stretch since Shink hasn't played an NHL game yet, but not out of the realm of possibility they think he could fit in right away if not very soon. I don't know if Jensen holds enough value for them to go with the 6th, but maybe he does since it's either our pick or the Islanders they're coveting really. They only have so many trade partners they'd consider if they want the 8th or better pick, so it's similar to a player with an NTC limiting his trade options to a handful of teams. Maybe favoured but "consensus #1 overall for months" is very strong. Bennett and Reinhart have been very much in the running, and the comments of a number of scouts and GMs have echoed that there isn't a consensus #1 pick. To similarly say Reinhart is definitively a 4th overall pick is incorrect as well. Maybe Buffalo and Edmonton might prefer different players, but that's speculation at this point and has no bearing on whether or not Reinhart is 1st or 4th based strictly on value. I understand if teams aren't just picking BPA and are letting their own factors determine who they pick, but that's no reason to think we can somehow trade to 4th and get who we want - or that Calgary wouldn't want us to pay more since they'd like Reinhart too and make the trade value basically equal (to a divisional rival no less).

That sums up my thoughts on it fairly well, with the clarification that Tanev will still be better defensively but Corrado likely better overall. It still depends on the rest of the moves we make though. If we get someone like Vatanen back from Anaheim or Pouliot from Pittsburgh then Tanev can quickly become an extra piece of our youth movement since there are only so many right side spots. But then, if we were to trade any of our top 4 defence this sumer as well then we'd be a little low on talent in the short term, but I'm sure Benning and Linden will have the big picture in mind with potential deals they could make.
-
And yet no matter who we target, Buffalo isn't likely to be trading their pick so there's no point talking to Buffalo very long about trading with them. You want that control if you hope to get a possible 1st overall player anyway.

Expected, but still good news nonetheless. Apparently some other notables invited are Reinhart and Virtanen.

Fair but do we want to do it considering the alternative is Shink and whoever we draft at 6th? Not to mention they want a roster player too, so it depends on who that is. If it's Dalpe to help them on wing, fine, but if it's Higgins/Hansen/Jensen/Kassian I'm not as sold on it being the right move. As far as the pick, I'm an Ekblad fan but if the Canucks get the pick then they take Reinhart. I don't think that's a question, with it being very unorthodox to take a defenceman high and the win/win of Reinhart being local. Shink doesn't make the most sense for me, and in no way is he projecting as a bust. Sure, he had an injury that kept him out basically all season but was still close in both the Canucks camp and the Team Canada junior camp. If he was close to a bust, why would Florida want him? In any case, with Florida wanting defencemen you'd think we could get it done trading Garrison as a local fan favourite in Florida. He'd have to waive of course, and we add (6th, maybe more) but that seems to be a better fit.

Florida has lots of centers as well though, otherwise they'd probably just keep the pick if they didn't. What they do need is a high end winger, hence moving down to the 4-8 range since there are a number of them available. I knew I'd forget some, and actually that one made no sense since Landeskog was far and away the #1 in my mind.

I don't know, that's a lot to move up 5 spots in a draft where not many people are ranking a significant top end talent. I wonder if there's truth to this whether Benning is going through our prospect pool and looking at players he's had reservations on in the past. Maybe that's why we'd see Shink included in this deal. One thing I was wondering about the quality of this draft since I mentioned it, is I wonder if there's less media hype for Reinhart because he's in the WHL. Most of the significantly hyped players are OHL or QMJHL, and we've all talked about Eastern media bias in the past. There was Jones last year from Portland but the hype for MacKinnon and McDavid (not to mention Stamkos, Tavares, etc.) seems to have been much bigger than for Reinhart and some people have looked closer at it and feel he's comparable. Again, this is all a bit hard to tell with Benning being so new and we don't know what his MO is, but maybe he's got some insight (for either end).

That doesn't say anywhere it's an official post-combine results measurement. There's a combine list, that has heights and weights, but then the actual combine results are separate and listed below the heights and weights. In fact, the only ones that look up to date are the ones that were released with the top 10 for both height and weight, of which any of the smaller, lighter players wouldn't show up on. Give me one that explicitly says they are the actual heights and weights from the combine and doesn't show some that look correct and others that look old and then I'll consider it accurate.

[Botchford] Kesler gave a list of 6 (revisited)

Knew it! But it's all good. -

Not in 2011, that was 2013. Maybe that's why there's the confusion if that's what people are thinking. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=675328 Technically it's not speculation when we have all the reported injuries for both teams after the playoffs ended. And we did have players actually out of play: Hamhuis was early on, Samuelsson earlier still in the playoffs, and Raymond as well nearer the end of the series. You can't overlook Rome as our depth replacement on D also out early in the series with the ludicrous suspension. Boston lost Horton in the series, and had Savard out all season (but him being out enabled them to be able to get Horton under the cap, so you can't count both). That's it. They would have had to had injuries to Seidenberg (Hamhuis), Horton (Samuelsson), Ryder later in the series (Raymond) and Boychuck out most of the series with a suspension for his hit on Raymond (Rome). And that's just the players not playing because of injury, never mind the ones still in the line up like Henrik, Ehrhoff and Kesler coming into the series hurt. But again I'm getting sidetracked. As far as Fabbri, I doubt he goes as high as our 6th but I could see someone picking him top 10. If we went for more size and grit with the 6th I wouldn't have an issue with Fabbri later if we did get the 10th from Anaheim. When people have him getting picked by us in any of the early rounds, I always feel like they've got 'local kid' goggles on - yet he's not from BC at all. Don't know why people like him.

Did you mean to post that in the daily rumours thread, Warhippy? There's nothing about Kesler there. -
[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours, Off Season Edition

Nope, should be similar to the buyout amount stretched over term. -
And fair enough, I can see lots of risk with him and we might well have options I'd prefer even with the 3rd or later.

They could still use a regular buyout, not too sure on the math though. -

Believe what you want, but if they haven't been already reported by reliable sources then all you're doing is pure speculation. Eklund and @HockeyyInsiderr do that daily, how far does it get them on respected reporters list? I'll happily await a reliable source from you, either old or new, before, during or after any eventual trade. Post it here, PM me, whatever. -
And yet they didn't really. Bumps and bruises I'm sure but only two reported injuries to the whole roster outside of Horton and Savard. One was Lucic with an ankle issue, and I can't remember the other off the top of my head. Canucks had Henrik, Kesler, Ehrhoff and Samuelsson injured coming into the series, and Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis and Raymond injured during. That's all top 6 forwards and top 4 defence, so it absolutely affected our ability to generate offence, as well as play solid defence. But way off topic, and as far as Perlini if he wasn't injured then his decrease in offensive output is a red flag. It doesn't mean he can't overcome that and be successful in the NHL, or even clutch, but based on the information we do know it's something that might give scouts pause. I might if it was a pick after the start of the 3rd round - you never know right. I wouldn't use our high second on him let alone any first we could get though.
-
We do have his brother, Cal, playing with the Comets. That likely won't factor into his decision though, and we'd have to trade for Ryan to get him anyway. Not sure we'd want to spend what the Avs would be asking.
-
This. He was on page for something like a ~50 point season after joining us from Florida that first year, but unfortunately no matter how hard he worked he couldn't stay healthy after that injury and rarely looked like he'd be able to find his scoring touch. All during that time he was still our undisputed best forward at driving the net, he just never converted any of those chances. Good luck wherever you end up, Booth.

As others have said, the only rumour out of Anaheim was that they were looking at multiple trades (including looking at Vanek) and had both 1sts and both 2nds on the table at the deadline to try and get deals done. There was never specific confirmation that all those picks were offered for Kesler alone. http://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/ducks_see_limited_action_at_trade_deadline/15938204 That article actually attributed the picks put out there more to Vanek, while others I've seen have attributed them more to an offer for Kesler. We know they weren't all offered in one deal though. As far as Chicago, I've never heard any plausible rumour on them even making a serious offer, just that they had interest - and of course your 'source' is conveniently no longer available. -

Red hot? You mean the one where Pittsburgh was offering us their 3rd line center, one of two depth defenceman prospects and some late round picks?
