  1. We didn’t want to move horvat all year long. We did because we couldn’t re-sign him. Allvin said he decided to move bo when the last contract offer got crickets from them. We wanted to move Boeser all year long.
  2. It’s urgent until he is gone. Before we could just let his contract run out if that was the only reasonable option.
  3. I agree. Both trades are good. we know we got good value from Bo trade. However, we do not know exactly what we have up to get Hronek. So we can’t call it a win yet.
  4. Still doesn’t guarantee that we will start winning. If he’s that good, why is Detroit trading him? If he can turn a bottom five team into a winner over a single season? Surely yzerman isn’t an idiot. As i said, i like the player. This is the type of move that needed to be made and he is a good piece. I’m questioning the timing. Could it have been in the off season after we know where nyi pick falls? Or we know where our own pick lands? For example, if we were to win the lottery, yes! Get hronek immediately!! But if not and our pick is 10th overall? Surely more patient approach could benefit the team?
  5. Getting Hronek doesnt guarantee that we will start winning. We can’t prioritize a player’s emotion over long term team success. If Petey is going to be unhappy while we are trying to build a winner, we have no choice but to ship him out. I don’t get any unhappy vibe from petey at least not now.
  6. Huh didn’t realize this but it really looks like we have no Canadian in the system. If we win the cup, we could be the only team to not feature a single Canadian.
  7. Good trade i like the player. But the timing seems a bit off. Patient retool by stockpiling young players and then assessing the best way forward might have been prudent. Petey said he likes playing here so I’m not sure why people keep on bringing it up.
  8. Yes that’s one way forward. I would like someone better but Pettersson is an option if we do get him for Boeser. For Hughes partner, it could be Schenn if they couldn’t find anyone else better.
  9. I wonder the same. In the off season, we will know the exact value of that pick. Either it’s very high and we don’t do the trade or it’s very low and Detroit doesn’t do the trade. I guess uncertainty in value is worth something.
  10. They probably see this as a good draft to have extra picks. Our second is a top 40 pick. So they got a mid first and 40th pick today. Yzerman knows the cup winner takes time to build and need young players to come in at opportune times to make the push. I like the player we got but i wish we made a deal like this down the road and focus on drafting the core.
  11. I don’t think they acquired him to be Hughes partner. Hughes-x x-Hronek OEL-Bear This is what i expect. Myers have to be traded.
  12. Getting a good player back. Not going to complain. We need a player like him. This is the type of trade i was hoping they would do… around 2024 after accumulating young players and picks this and next season. Stock pile assets first then look for trade opportunities. Obviously canucks want a quick retool.
  13. I see. He should stay on LTIR as long as he needs. Come back only when he is back to 100%.
  14. I give credit to JR for shutting his mouth since firing Boudreau and letting Allvin do the work. I feel like Allvin deserves more credit. Trade returns have been good. The fact that trades are taking place is a good thing. For example, JB might have held on to Schenn.
  15. After fleecing Benning on OEL, he is just waiting for one desperate GM to show up.
  16. Washington is a lot like us from 2012-2015. Retooling while your core is still performing at a high level is super hard. It's like doing a heart surgery while the patient is awake? (sorry, probably a bad analogy). Our core players were still good enough to make the playoffs up until 2015 (Sedins were 32, Kesler was 28, and Luongo was 33 in 2012). I see 2014 as an off-year due to the mismatch between Torts' style and the team. That means we wouldn't have gotten enough top 5 or a top 10 picks needed to draft new core players from 2012-2015 (although it did happen in 2014 but we blew it away). Washington will likely face a similar fate as we did. OV and company are still good enough that they will contend and make the playoffs save for a down year like this one. They are still too good to be getting a top 10 pick this season. They will try for a quick retool by trading Orlov or other pieces and then using the draft capital to acquire a good young player to support the existing core but they won't be good enough to get them over the top teams in the East. Likely a 1st round exit at the hands of a younger team as we did in 2015 at the hands of the Flames. And then, things will collapse down and they will suck and eventually, OV and Backstrom will retire and they will have zero young core players. If the owner and the management are able to put aside sentiment, they will enter a rebuild. But they recently came out and said that they won't rebuild while OV is active -- sounds very familiar isn't it? Very similar to how Linden came out and said they won't rebuild while the Sedins are around. The main difference is that they got their cup in 2018. We should have gotten ours in 2011 or 2012. That's the only regret. This sucking that followed would have been much more palatable had we won a cup during the Sedin era.
  17. Well, he will fit right in here then. It's a foregone conclusion that Marcus Pettersson is coming here if we are trading Boeser to them. A bad (and surplus) contract for another bad contract.
