  1. Yes, there will be off-season interest. And you are absolutely right. There are interest in these players now as well. The cap maneuvering is just so difficult and to most teams, these players aren't the type of upgrade that they are looking for. Most playoff teams already have a Garland or a Boeser, these are the type of players that excel only in a top 6 scoring role. So even if they get either, the teams aren't able to give them the ice time that these players need to succeed. And that's the case on our team too. Garland and Boeser are skill players who aren't good enough on our team to get PP1 minutes. Lately, they are playing on line #3. But they don't bring the tangibles of a typical third line player. And considering the gymnastics that the teams have to go through to make the deal happen to absorb 5+ mil of salary, is the reason why we won't see a deal for them. At least that's my guess.
  2. Yes, I'm aware that upsets do happen. 2019, Tampa even got swept. And no one saw that coming. But looking back, they had one weakness. Grit from bottom 6. At that point, Tampa was mostly a speed and skill team that got exploited by Torts style of game. Upsets typically occur when a weaker team can exploit the weaknesses of stronger team. Boston and Carolina... well it's possible. I'm not denying that it's possible. Will be a shocker conisdering how well they execute.
  3. Jeannot was clearly highly coveted by TB. NSH had no reason to trade him hence the overpayment. It's like you own a home that you are happy with and someone comes in and offers you the market price. You'd say no. But if someone offers double the market price? That's what happened with Jeannot. No one is targetting Miller like TB targetted Jeannot. That's why we can't get a similar return for Miller. Targetting a specific player isn't very common. That's why this deal should be considered an exception rather than the norm; it won't affect the price of other assets.
  4. Surprise run in the East? The wild card team faces either Boston or Carolina. I think an upset is highly unlikely. They are too good to be passed by the bottom 12 teams while the top seeds in the East are too strong for an upset. Whether the Islander make the playoffs or not, we are likely getting a 13-20th pick, most likely 15-18th pick.
  5. I'd do that trade too. But would they? I don't think they will want to subtract from their roster as they push for the playoffs. Jokiharju is a regular contributor on their roster at this point. LA's package, if it includes a RHD and a 1st is more probable IMO.
  6. It is true that people (including myself) were focussing on the turnovers at the blue line during a powerplay, giving up on plays, screaming, etc. But the last 10 games or so, he's been noticeable for good reasons. And at least for me, I would like to see Miller stay on this team... if he were turning 27 instead of 30. I can't speak for others but at least for myself, I realize the positive attributes brought by Miller whereas before, I just wanted him gone no matter what because of those noticeable mistakes and poor attitude. It looks like Allvin is considering all options, including a deep rebuild as evident by Demko rumors. If we are entering a rebuild, creating holes on the roster is expected because the point is to replenish your roster with younger players in return for creating those very holes and some of those young players will eventually fill those holes but it won't be next season.
  7. That’s correct. Especially if miller is dealt, no rush to trade them with cap retention or sweeteners.
  8. You are absolutely right. They must have designs on signing Jarry and testing Silovs for the back up role/1b role with Petersen if Jarry doesn’t sign here. If we can get a 1st and RD from them, that’s a deal I would consider. We are entering a deep rebuild if we move demko and maybe even miller. We need quantity as well as quality of prospects in all positions.
  9. No takers for Myers, Brock, Garland. If there was, they would be gone by now.
  10. I appreciate him now. He has committed to playing the right way since Tocchet took over. The blocking shots is very much appreciated. Its the sellers market this TDL thanks to the arns race in the east. Might be a good to explore the trade option.
  11. Exactly. I must admit that Miller is a good player now and probably for the next 3 years. For a contending team, he will give them a boost and they can probably deal with the remaining 3 years of Miller’s deal when the time comes. For us, 3-4 years is when we are about to get good. We will need the cap space to chisel around the roster. Having Miller who may or may not be as good as he is now is a risk. I would like us to limit the number of risky contracts. The only two players that I’m ok with handing out a long term contract is petey and hughes.
  12. Oilers might make it out of the West, they have McDavid who controls the game for nearly half of the game. But the cup is going East.
  13. Well said. The parameters surrounding each of these deals were different so they are not directly comparable anyways. Horvat - UFA, rejected latest offer from the Canucks. - NYI wanted to jump ahead and give a boost otherwise they risked missing out on the playoffs. - Vancouver wanted to retool so Beauvillier serves a role -- he was included to make the cap work out but if it was a mere cap dump, I'm sure NYI could have dumped someone else. Canucks wanted a young roster player for the retool. Meier - RFA with 10 million dollar qualifying offer. - San Jose didn't need to trade him because he was an RFA. - San Jose wanted to infuse their prospect pool with quantity. - There was a bidding war between Carolina, Vegas, and Devils. Jeannot - Nashville had absolutely no reason to trade him. - Tampa targetted him. - Result is that Tampa had to massively overpay. Jeannot case is not the norm. It's the exception. Bo got the very standard return for a pending UFA. 3 pieces: roster player, prospect, and 1st.
  14. I think people understand what happened. That Linden was onboard with going for a retool while the Sedins were around. He wanted to rebuild after Sedins retired but was told no by the owner.
  15. I gotta say, this is the most over priced deal for a third line player I've ever seen. A day passed by but it's still baffling. I understand that they had to overpay to convince Nashville to trade a young player like Jeannot. But they basically traded 6 players. The only rationale is that they have skill up front, goaltending, and defence. The road to ECF goes through Toronto and Boston and they figured they needed young physical player to get through Boston.
  16. Yes, the Devils look good now but it's even more scary when you look ahead. They are adding Hughes and Nemec in the near future. That looks like a 1st pairing defence. They outright sucked were mediocre for a while since they got to the SCF in 2014 but are finally emerging. I guess that's how long a deep rebuild can take. Canucks on the other hand...
  17. Yeah, I'd say it's quite a bit less than what we got for Bo if seen without any context. Their 1st is likely 20+ whereas NYI 1st is likely top 20. Their 2nd is nobody right now whereas Raty is a player who is knocking on the door with few NHL games under his belt already. They got a prospect while we got an NHL roster player. We are in a retool, where we need a young quality roster player like Beauvillier. They are in a deep rebuild and obviously prefer a blue chip prospect. The return for Meier kind of makes sense as when you are rebuilding, you want to infuse as many prospects as possible in your system and hope that few of them will hit given enough development time. And they do have plenty of development time. I think we got what we wanted from Bo trade and they got what they wanted from Meier trade.
  18. Raty's worst case is a good 3C? Bo trade is sounding more and more like a resounding win. Beau is a glue guy, Raty a 3C, and mid first round pick in a deep draft. We could end up with 3 roster players from this trade. Sharks on the other hand are getting a late 1st, a former 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and a bunch of scraps. They clearly went for quantity over quality, which makes sense since they are in a deep rebuild.
  19. Another great performance by silovs! We allowed less than four goals for two straight games. I’m happy for silovs but genuinely concerned that losing is over. We might go over .500 rest of the way.
  20. Wow another Russian. At this point, i am fully preparing myself for us to draft michkov. Podz, kuz, mikheyevz, kravz, mitchkovz.
