  1. Petey's been carrying this team on his back. Now we know what life is like without him. We really need another player who can carry the offence. A playmaking center.
  2. I agree that they were going to let Tanev walk regardless; but disagree that it's because he was injury prone. They had a contingency plan of trading for Schmidt. In the opinions of JB and the other guy (Weisbrod?), Schmidt was the better player (than Tanev). If Schmidt wasn't an option, they would have re-signed Tanev. It would be crazy to not have re-signed him. Schmidt didn't work out mainly because he wasn't the player suited to play Green's style. Schmidt doesn't bring the qualities like shot blocking and shot suppression in the way Tanev does. This team needed a shot suppressor more than a puck mover like Schmidt. But I agree with the last part, if JB didn't get OEL, he would have signed another player to a 6 million dollar deal like he did with Myers. So it's really, another Myers + Guenther vs OEL + Garland. lol
  3. While the management has instilled very little confidence thus far, I think they have one motto when it comes to trading our star players: "we shall receive a player that is better, younger, cheaper, and on a team friendly contract beyond this season* (RFAs work too). That motto stops them from doing what you suggest but also, it stops them from doing anything at all.
  4. Just sign him in the off season once he hits the UFA market. I like his game but I wouldn't want us to overpay. I'd give him Tanev contract and see if he'd accept.
  5. I'd do the deal with the Rangers that you proposed if it's Horvat and not Pettersson. Schneider is not going to see the ice time needed to develop into a premier top 4D with Fox and Trouba ahead of him. Bo is an immediate upgrade on Chytil for the Rangers.
  6. What is your justification that this team is solid up front even without Pettersson? The last time I checked natural stat trick, only 3 players had GF/60 well above GA/60, Pettersson, Mik, and Kuz. Who drives that line? Take Pettersson out and we are weak up front because Miller and Horvat would have to be spread out and Horvat would end up taking all the match ups. And we all know from 8 seasons of watching Horvat that while is not a defensive liability, he is unable to push the play in the right direction against the elite players on a consistent basis. The reason why Bo and Miller can focus on offence is because of Pettersson. Besides, Schneider is not even playing big minutes right now. So big fat no to that deal. I agree that Dobson is what we need. And I do think he could develop into the player of Pettersson's caliber so maybe I'd consider that deal. But we are filling a hole by creating another hole by trading #1C for a #1RD. I don't think it moves us forward.
  7. You are not wrong to suggest this but is there a realistic return for petey that would make it worth trading him? There’s not a lot of package involving an RD that I’d trade petey for. I’d do petey for makar. But avs wouldnt. I’d consider heiskanen+ for petey. But would stars? ekblad? If petey does get to 90+ points while playing a twao way game, that puts him close to pavel datsyuk level. You don’t trade those players unless they want out. We are not at a point where we have to worry about petey pulling a tkachuk. Edit: schneider and dobson trades you propose are severely under selling petey and lopsided in favor of Rangers and Islanders.
  8. I wish this is just a joke but what you are describing here is what they are actually asking for from other teams. Here we have a player who is walking into UFA. JR is asking for a player that is similarly good while being younger and is signed to a contract.
  9. While I respect your take on Garland and OEL, it is not OEL and Garland vs Guenther. If OEL deal wasnt available in 2020, we would have re-signed Tanev so it would be Tanev + Guenther vs OEL + Garland. Even if you look at 2021 as the reference point, it would be Schmidt + Guenther. The cap space for the former case is 6 mil (5+1), the latter is 12 mil. That extra cap space is what we need to sign/trade for another defenceman. Heck, we could have Tanev, Schmidt, and Guenther if JB played it better. QH-Tanev Schmidt-Schenn
  10. This post illustrates how far we are from winning the cup. The comparable players on our team to Tampa: Point-Pettersson (2-way centerman) Kucherov-Miller (scoring winger) Stmkos-Horvat (scoring center) Cirelli-NA (3C) Hedman-Hughes (#1D) Segachev-OEL (#2D) Cernak-Myers (#3D) Vas-Demko (#1G)
  11. I'd do Horvat for Lundell 1-for-1. But Florida isn't going to trade a young player with contract control for a pending UFA even if they had the cap space to accommodate Horvat. I think the right team to trade with is a team that has a surplus of a young defenceman.
  12. Yes to more divisional games. No to more regular season games. I would even eliminate the wild cards, eliminate the notion of conferences, and have 4 teams from each division make the playoffs. Play 2 games against every non-divisional teams: 24 * 2 = 48 games. Play 4 games against divisional teams: 7*4 = 28 games. Play 76 regular season games. The winners of each division are matched up based on their regular season record.
  13. I don't think he chose to go for short term deal. He was probably looking for 8.5-9.5 mil on a long term contract but the team was capped out. One of the great weaknesses of JB's management team was poor cap management.
  14. What is most impressive about EP's point production compared to JT Miller is that EP is not the primary puck handler on the powerplay. JT and Quinn are the primary handlers and yet, EP is racking up points. Whatever points EP ends up with this season, be it 90 points or 100 points, that's not likely to be his ceiling.
  15. As he gains more experience, the game is going to slow down for him and he will learn how to buy time to make the right decisions. Then the puck will go in more. Now he looks like he's rushing a lot of the decisions. I'm pretty high on Hoglander. I'm also high on Podkolzin. These guys definitely have the physical attributes and high enough hockey IQ. I think they will eventually connect the dots and become strong contributors.
  16. If Hoglander can put it all together, we could be looking at Marchand lite. Short but strong build with low center of gravity, hard to knock off the puck. Marchand added vision and passing to his game on top of his already decent shot. Hoglander has quite a bit to work on and I doubt he reaches Marchand's level but he would be a valuable part of the team moving forward.
  17. The right thing to do is make a decent contract offer to Schenn. I think a 2 yr deal with a modest raise, say 1.25-1.5 mil? But if he doesn't want to re-sign here, then we should definitely trade him for the best return. This suggestion that we trade him and then re-sign him in the off season is not going to work.
  18. This sounds so much like, "Boeser scored 29 goals in 62 games, he's 100% going to score 40 goals in year 2..." ^I was one of the believers, that Boeser was on his way to many 40+ goal seasons. It's a hard call with Kuz. I wouldn't mind betting on him and give him a big contract, 7 mil x 5 or 6 years. But we will have to unload Boeser or Garland.
  19. Didn't know Hoglander was over 24 years old. How did he miss Hoglander or he thinks Hogs is not an NHL player? That 2017 draft was magic for Dallas. Won the lottery, drafted #1D, #1LW, #1G. They were on their way to the bottom of the standings saved by that draft. Imagine if they actually picked Makar over Heiskanen.
  20. Gawdzukes, I agree with your view point. Miller brings high end skill. There's no reason to dislike the player (although his blind passes are a problem followed by giving up on plays). Had JB make the right decisions after 2020 bubble run and without COVID impacting the cap, this team could have really taken off in the standings. In that case, Miller is the player that you want on your team. He's durable and brings physicality for the playoffs along with offensive skills. Sadly, the team that we have is probably going to miss the playoffs, likely by a small margin. It needs a bit of retool by trading veteran players and use the assets that we get back as a scaffold towards building a consistent playoff and ultimately a cup contender. Now with Miller re-signed, all we can do is hope that he addresses his weaknesses and maintain his offensive prowess from last season as long as possible.
  21. This management has done opposite of what they've been saying so the news that re-signing Petey is on their radar instills very little faith. If they don't re-sign Petey in the off season, I think they will lose whatever little support they have amongst the fans.
