  1. I understand. I doubt they trade Kuz anyways given how great the trio has been.
  2. The cap might go up by 3mil next season if the players decide to pay back the owners. Bo's agent knows this for sure. If I'm Bo's agent, I'd tell him to hit the free agency even if all he ever wants to do is re-sign with the Canucks. Using offers from other teams as leverage, he can definitely work out a higher AAV with the Canucks. From the Canucks point of view, the optimal decision to be made is to trade him. There are too many factors at hand and you can't risk losing a player of Bo's caliber for nothing. It sucks. But that's the price of making a wrong assessment and re-signing Miller before Horvat.
  3. I'm sick of this Petey might not be happy bull$hit. According to CDC, Petey is the worst b*tch that ever played for the Canucks. He ain't gonna be happy if Miller, Bo, Boeser, Kuzmenko, Marky, Tanev, Toffoli, Stecher, Edler, don't re-sign. Petey's a professional. He's under contract and will be an RFA at the end of his contract. He's going to play to his best abilities during those years. If he ain't happy because his friend didn't re-sign here then go. get the f*ck outta here.
  4. Not many of them will say bad things about the opponents, especially if they won. Most retired athletes, at least the respectable ones anyways, tell a funny story about their own teammates. Bieksa talking about Kesler or about Luongo for example. Why is no one from the Canucks come out blaming the refs or the Bruins? Rome could easily come out and say $hit about the league for suspending him for 4 games. Daniel could come out and blast the ref that gave him a penalty for getting punched in the face or the countless cross checks to his back from Boston defenders.
  5. I think I counted at least 30 cross checks to Sedins backs from in every game. You get 30 cross checks, even the Great one, Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr will be kept to the perimeters. It wasn't Thomas who won them the cup. It was the refs and changing of the standards. You are right. The fact that they feel like they needed to come out and say this tells you all we need to know. Deep inside, they know their cup is dirty.
  6. Chara lost my respect. He should've kept his mouth shut. You are retired and you won. Why revisit something like this even if it were true?
  7. Our new tank commander. At least you would be taking some heat off of Stillman. The poor guy is being made into a scapegoat on CDC every single night.
  8. Myers comes off after next season. Right, Bill Guerin was shot in the head the day he bought out Parise and Suter.
  9. If the goal is to gain cap space to re-sign Bo, we shouldn't. This team needs a change. One easy way to inject young players is by trading veterans in their prime. Trade Bo gives us 5 mil in cap space, which can then be used to re-sign Kuzmenko. We could also eat up some cap and trade Myers if necessary.
  10. 30-35 goals? He already has 20 goals. You are saying he will manage 10-15 goals in the next 56 games? As long as he is playing on #1PP, he will pot minimum 20 goals.
  11. Well, I bet he can easily score on us if he really wanted. Maybe it's a good thing that he can't score on anyone.
  12. If Benning made a decision to add a 2nd based on the Sedins, then he should have been fired right there. Sedins have retired in 2017, that's when OEL was still good. Obviously, they would only have good things to say. When you make a deal like that, you better send scouts and go through proper evaluation.
  13. OEL's weakness is that he isn't quick to the puck. NHL is getting younger and fresh legs are coming in every season so it's going to get worse. Schenn is also slow footed but he makes the forecheckers cringe and look behind their shoulders as they go into the corners to retrieve the puck. Schenn doesn't go for the puck, he knows he's getting beat. He just takes the body. And that's pretty effective I'd say. So, yeah it could work out. But then, the teams will dump the puck on OEL's side almost all the time and Schenn, who isn't quick, will not be able to help OEL retrieve the puck. To cover up OEL's weakness, Bear is the right type of defenceman. It would be good if the guy brouhg some physicality as well, maybe a player that is an amalgamation of Schenn and Bear? I'd say Pronger would be a great partner for OEL
  14. Let's compare to Marleau + 1st as cap dump. To dump 6 mil, they gave up 1st rounder, at the time it was considered 20th overall or lower. No one saw the COVID and Leafs to burn out of the play-in round and end up giving up 13th overall. To dump Beagle, Roussel, and Eriksson's 12 mil, the cost of 9th overall + 2nd sort of makes sense in that regard. Although, why we gave up the 9th overall pick when we weren't cap crunched like the Leafs with Marleau is questionable. Could've just ride out the contracts. And if we look at OEL as a cap dump (6 times 7.2 mil = 42 mil), then they should have sent us way more than Garland or retained far more than 1 mil. So, yeah that deal was bad for us. My gut feeling say that they didn't scout OEL all that much. If they did, they should have known that his skating has deteriorated significantly. One caveat is that OEL is not purely a cap dump in the way Marleau was. He is still a roster player, capable of playing in the top 4, just not as effectively as he once did. So not all of 42 mil is a cap dump. If the Coyotes retained 3 mil to bring down OEL's cap numbers to around 5 mil, I think we can stomach it even if he declines over the next few years. Benning made a lot of questionable decisions post the bubble run.
  15. Absolutely. If we can improve on the defensive side of the game, both in terms of defencemen and forwards with high defensive skills, the team could go places. Fixing those issues won't be easy though because of our cap situation. That's why people are worrying about 2 years later. But I agree that we should focus on today's problems. That's Bo's contract either it's a trade or a re-sign, and clear some cap space via trade to accommodate his and Miller's new deals. And we go from there.
  16. Yeah for sure. I think we should trade Bo (should have been Miller though). I'm hoping Petey-Hughes could be the leader that takes the team out of this mess in a couple of season. Sort of like how Naslund and Bertuzzi (from Linden trade) led us out of the mess. With right trades, drafting, and development, we could be looking at a quick turnaround.
  17. Yeah, as @Provost pointed out, he could easily find another team. LA and Detroit are potential candidates as you said. I guess we have to deal with it like Calgary had to deal with Tkahuck. If Petey doesn't sign a long term deal next season, we will have to find a trade partner. Maybe a sign-and-trade. Trading Petey would force us into a proper rebuild. May not be a terrible thing. Francesco is going to suffer from all those poor mismanagement decisions.
  18. I'm going to agree with you there. My point that there aren't many contending teams that can offer 10 mil deal to EP when and if he hits UFA is incorrect. But EP likely won't turn down 10 mil contract next season. That point still stands.
  19. Kotkaniemi just doesn't make sense as a trade return for Bo. He's looking like a cap dump at this point so they'd have to add significant pieces on the deal if they want Horvat in return. I'd start with Seth Jarvis and whoever is their best defence prospect. But for Boeser, I would consider taking on Kotkaniemi as long as they add enticing pieces like a defenceman and a draft pick.
  20. The Cincinnati zoo must be breeding geniuses. This is pure genius.
  21. 2-4 years later, those teams may not be contending anymore though as those star players age out. But I agree that if those teams maintain a good roster of players, it could open up an ideal spot for Petey to take over one of the expiring big contracts.
  22. I'm guessing Newhook is just filling in for Landeskog and the other guy, Compher is regular on their PP? Bo will excel there. Bo will be taking the PP draws and setting up for a shot in his usual position.
  23. Which teams? The only team that I can think off of top of my head with expiring old contracts is, Boston? Any other team?
  24. Maybe eventually but I don't feel like they are quite ready to commend the respect in the locker room. My sense is that they are still seen as young kids among the vets. Schenn could hold that spot for few years and then hand it to either of the two guys as he retires.
