[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
jyu replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Horvat + Rathbone for Byram + Newhook + 1st? In Horvat, Avs are getting a perfect player. Horvat is the perfect 2C behind Mac. And I think they are missing a bumper guy on their PP? Landeskog is the net front, Mac and Raantanen off the walls, Makar QB, who is the other guy on their PP? And with the Avs, Horvat is going to succeed. His clutch scoring in the playoffs will shine through. I think the Avs will repeat if they get Horvat. I don't know how serious Byram's concussion symptoms are but if he does recover, he is exactly the player we need long term. He can share minutes with Hughes. Having two elite LHDs, like Pronger and Niedermayer, will strengthen our backend immensely. Petey is our two way 1C. We would need to get another scoring center, maybe in this draft. Hopefully Newhook can be groomed into a 3C role like Kerfoot in Toronto but with better FO%. -

I'm happy and rooting for him to get there. Mikheyev really helps to enhance his game, creates a lot of space and time with his speed for Petey to make plays. Probably going to be our first $10 million player. I wish we could have gotten him to a deal like Jack Hughes 8mil x 8 couple seasons ago. That would have been the deal of the decade. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

Trade and then re-sign. I'd give him the captaincy for a few seasons if Bo gets traded. -
I almost wish that Brock didn't have such amazing rookie season. That rookie season led us to believe that he was on par or slightly below guys like Tkachuk. The expectation were way too high and that led him to the previous deal, which basically locked the team into a bad situation leading to his current contract negotiation in the summer. If he signed a modest deal out of ELC and then, he could have been signed to around 5 mil this summer, which is probably what he is worth now as a 20 goals and 50 point scorer. I'd hate to lose him for cheap but it looks like the management is trying desperately to find the cap to re-sign Bo. In the end, I doubt they trade Boeser. They will be forced into trading Horvat.

I don't agree with this sentiment. Petey will get a major chance to cash out 9-10 million dollar long term deals shortly. Petey is on pace for 90+ points while having the best two way numbers on this team and league-wide. When his current deal runs out, I highly doubt he will say no to a 10 mil x 8 years offer. No contending team can offer them the same deal and the prime ice time. Those spots are mostly spoken for already on the contending teams. The only teams that can offer them such mega deals are mediocre teams. Well, I guess Seattle could and they certainly don't look mediocre. Unless Petey wants to sign at lower than his market value to go to a contending team and win (ala Hossa) -- I just don't see him bolting because another player he likes bolts. I guess he could but then I'd be very very very surprised. Hughes is still early in his deal that a lot can change in the next 3-4 seasons. I'm thankful we signed him to a longer term deal.

My apologies in that case. Sorry. -

No, we need a superior scorer and a driver of a line at least at Petey's level or better. Sedins were elite first line scorers, consistently putting up a point a game. Kesler took on the tough match ups as he was an elite two way player. Look at New Jersey. Hischier has turned into an elite two way center. They got Jack Hughes leading the scoring line. It looks like Petey is our two way center and if not, he will grow into that role shortly. Now, we need a guy to lead the scoring. If you are suggesting Boeser is that guy to lead the scoring line ahead of Petey, I have to call you out but you are out of your f*cking mind. I was hoping Bo and Miller could handle that part but no, they can't. They aren't consistent enough at 5-on-5 and not dominating puck possession enough, i.e., defensive at or below par. -
I'm so glad that we finally have hired smart management group. They have decided on rebuilding this team in the offseason... they just determined that the owner or the fans need to know about it. Now it's so blatantly obvious that I feel so stupid. Like who in their right f*cking mind constantly bashes a coach with 600+ wins, hires Yeo as an assistant coach, re-signs JT Miller before Bo Horvat, re-signs Boeser to a 3-year deal, does absolutely nothing to fix the defence? Now all the puzzle pieces fit together.

I share the same sentiment with you on Boeser. But it's one where you both know it's time to move on. He was getting a bit complacent here. And that's why I felt that Boeser is not going to regain his form here. Getting pushed off the primary scoring role should have pissed him off. Instead he was content being a good citizen. If this doesn't light fire under his a$$, then nothing will.

If it comes to the point where the agent has to facilitate a deal, we probably won't get an established NHLer playing at a higher level than Boeser. The last time an agent got involved was Luongo deal. Where we got Marky, who had potential but was years away from making it to the NHL due to poor development. It might be like a Luongo deal where a team sends us a prospect with good pedigree but is few years away from making it. From our end, we clear cap and get a decent project prospect that can help down the road.

Or just do a patient rebuild and stock up on good players. Horvat should get us some young prospects back. Draft well this year and the next couple of years. This team needs some high end prospects to right the ship. Petey is good but not enough. We need one more guy to take on the scoring. I think Hughes' defensive miscues are fixable. His ability with the puck is not something that can be taught. -

Some idiot gave away all of the penalty killers and replacing them with Garland. His principle was that you can win by having 9 skilled forwards that don't know crap about defending/PK in the line up. -
What a shocker. I did not expect Portugal to lose today. I know they rested some key players like Bruno Fernandes but still, that was a shocker. Saudis beating Argentina. Japan beating Germany and Spain, showing that it was no fluke. Aussies, Japan, and South Korea from AFC in the round of 16. I can't recall seeing 3 teams from Asia making it to the round of 16 ever before. It's been a fun world cup.

True. But now Demko is out so him gaining form and carrying the team on his back is not gonna happen. Our defence is pretty bad and outscoring the opposition wasn't going to last (absurdly high shooting percentage). -

That was never going to happen unless Demko regained his form. Now he is out with an injury. I'd rather Demko heal fully and return back next season. This season is going down the toilet and we should get a top 5 pick. -
The last few years reminds me of mid-late 90's dark years. People losing interest in the team and it will affect ticket sales soon. We got to draft two hall of famers during the dark years and I think drafting another franchise player to along with Petey and Hughes is the only way forward. Trade Bo. Like we traded Linden for a haul, it's time to trade Bo for a good return of players/prospects/picks.

It's tank Mike Yeo time!! Yeo is going to make sure we get the best possible lottery odds. Rutherford pulling off stealth tank to perfection: 1. did not fix the defence, 2. re-signing Boeser to 3-year deal aligning with 3-year rebuild, and 3. re-signed Miller over Horvat as Horvat's trade value is higher.

Roberto Luongo to be inducted into Canucks Ring of Honour
jyu replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Edler? ROH or jersey retirement? I love Edler and I would have loved to have seen him retire a Canuck. I disliked Benning's decisions to let Edler walk. But, I doubt his jersey gets retired. Even ROH, I doubt it's going to happen. -

Let's accept the fact that jersey retirement is a subjective decision. There is no barometer for deciding whose jersey should be retired. I wouldn't be against Luongo's jersey going up there. Simply put, he is the best goalie this franchise has ever had. I don't know if you were following the team in the late 90's but it was dark. It was way darker than it is now. Like fans weren't showing up at games and the team was losing money. Playoffs felt like a pipe dream. And then Naslund came along and scored 41 goals in 70 games; then he broke his leg against Buffalo. I still remember how we made the playoffs that year with Harold Druken OT goal against LA in the last game of the season. It felt like the entire lower mainland came to life. The talk of relocating the team disappeared as the owner started to cash out on the playoff revenue -- I vaguely remember reading that one round of playoffs gave the owner about 10 million dollars of profit then. The team had barely any down years from then until the Sedins decline. You could argue that Naslund helped pave the road for the most successful period of Canucks hockey and that sentiment seems to be shared by people that decide on whose jersey gets retired. -

I agree. At the time it left a bad taste though. Sedins were declining and he was like I'm getting the f*ck outta here.
