  1. Without Moore elbow, Naslund's peak years could have lasted a few more seasons. Moore's elbow ruined the careers of Moore himself, Naslund, and Bertuzzi. I blame that f*ckface Tony Granato for all of this. Naslund's rise to stardom basically saved the franchise and that's why his number is retired. It almost feels like a movie with how dramatic things are being a fan of the Canucks. When Messier arrived, the media was like, he could help us over the top (since we were only few years removed from 1994 run). Then, $hit took place and the team was losing money and McCaw threatened to move the team -- Grizzlies had just relocated around that time so it didn't feel like an empty threat. Then, WCE came to the rescue and the team became relevant again. Then it felt like all our hopes were lost with Moore elbow and WCE's decline... Then the Sedins took over. Luongo arrived. Kesler developed into an elite two-way player. Burr became a 30 goal scorer. It felt like we were on the verge... only to be blocked by a superior Blackhawks team. Then, we finally slayed the dragon. Only to lose in the game 7 to Boston. So many crosschecks to Sedins backs were uncalled. By putting the whistle away, the refs basically helped Boston to keep the Sedins cycle game to the perimeter. Boston was a great team and I give them credit for committing to their game plan but I think the cup should have been ours. Winning the cup in 2011 would have made for a great way to end the story. Come up short in 1994, villains (Mess and Keenan) take over, Nazzy saves the team, Sedins carry over and take the team to new heights (president's trophy), then win the cup. The new era after the Sedins feels like an entirely new story. I hope this one doesn't entail as much drama and suffering.
  2. The feeling of betrayal with the way he left has washed away, at least for me. It'd be good to see Kes go up to the ring of honour. By the time he was done in Vancouver, his body had torn down to shreds.
  3. Times have changed indeed... Miller is signed to a 7 year deal. Not sure if that's a positive or negative in terms of his trade value to a team like NYR, who is in their contention window. If they can fit his salary, then he would be a massive upgrade on their wing depth over Kakko and Lafreniere for the next 3 to 4 years. Lafreniere could develop into an elite winger, but he might not be given the prime ice time and opportunities to make it happen.
  4. It's a good deal for the Canucks, Boeser, and Rathbone. Boeser gets a chance to play away from toxic Vancouver market. He could work on his game away form the spotlight and get his form back. Maybe he'll score 30 goals in this league. Rathbone goes to a team that has track record of developing great defencemen. Vancouver clears cap space to pay Bo and Kuzmenko. I'm not very familiar with Nashville this season. I have liked Sissons game in the past but not sure what kind of form he is in this season. Fabbro hasn't lived up to the expectations but maybe a local boy could rediscover his game here.
  5. The forward lines have finally converged to stability. The two Russians flanking Petey and our big line of Bo-Miller providing the offense. PP is peaking. With Bo providing another lethal shooting option, the teams can't just cheat towards Petey and if they do, Petey is still a lethal shot option. Miller can always shoot as well or pass to Kuz down low. The PP is harder to defend. Imagine if Hughes equips a better wrister one day. 4th line is developing chemistry. And although the 3rd line needs defensive sheltering, it packs some offensive firepower to help the team when needing a goal. But I think the team doesn't turn the corner and none of the above would have mattered if not for the acquisition of Ethan Bear. Bear compliments OEL and provides a sufficient 2nd pairing that can defend and move the puck. Bear is a good skater and covers quite a bit of ice for OEL, who unfortunately cannot skate as well as he used to. OEL still possess good vision, high skill level, and IQ so having a reliable partner like Bear lets him focus on his strengths. Burroughs coming in place of Stillman has also helped. Once Dermott returns, I would assume that the defence would be even better. I'd try to move Myers at that point to Ottawa if they are indeed interested in him. I like Myers and as a 3rd pairing defenceman, his weaknesses don't get exposed as much. But I like Dermott at 1.5 mil better than Myers at 6mil.
  6. Gillis wasn't a genius. A genius would have been able to build a cup contending team while adding prospects. The reason why that team's contending window was so short lived was because there was no youth coming in to inject some life. Imagine if he found one diamond in the rough with one of the late firsts or the later rounds. Even if we lost in 2011, we may have been able to beat LA in 2012. We all know the road to the cup was wide open that year. Gillis was a good GM, he did what he set out to do and that was to construct a roster that can contend. But it was one and done. So I wouldn't give him too much credit.
  7. Kuz is no where near as good as EP right now. EP is driving that line in all zones. Kuz only driving the play in the offensive zone although he is not bad in the neutral zone either. Honestly, I don't see Panarin level skiil from Kuz. Ideally, we trade Boeser and give that money to Kuz (around 6). Otherwise, we just have to move on.
  8. I'd give up Bo+ for Dahlin. But I don't think Buffalo does. And seeing that it comes from Eklund, it's obviously full of crap. Hey, I heard some guy say that the Oilers will do Draisaitl for Horvat. They believe the chemistry between McDavid and Horvat from that commercial will carry on to the ice.
  9. Without the injuries and had he been able to develop properly, he would be an NHLer. But that second OHL season revealed that he is not a play driver. It was Marner, Tketchup in London and Laine, Aho, Puljujarvi on Finalnd.
  10. So you must have been very unhappy when Henrik and Naslund as our captains. I don't understand this notion that Bo doesn't forecheck hard. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I see hard work from Bo almost every shift. His weakness earlier on was that he was trying too hard, making unnecessary movements, which put him (and his stick) out of position defensively. This season, I see that he has become more efficient. He doesn't have defensive reads like Petey but he almost always covers his man. I respect your opinion. I would also like Bo to be more impactful in other ways too. But I don't see many captains that are like that these days. The things you say applies to Crosby and McDavid so even they wouldn't be good enough for you because everyone scores to energize the team.
  11. Sorry, I don't understand. Scoring goals doesn't energize the team? Trade the whole team in that case.
  12. He brings a lot of emotion and physicality. Maybe not much physicality in the way of hits. But he is a centerman and has defensive responsibilities. It's different from a winger who can just go and lay a big hit once a while without having to worry too much about giving up an odd man rush. How many centers around the league go out and make big hits? One synergy from having Miller and Bo play together is that Bo has finally improved on his possession game. Playing possession game requires quite a bit of physicality to protect the puck and maintain possession. I think Bo improves and becomes better here on out. Whichever playoff contender that is getting him is getting a major boost
  13. lol 16 goals 22 points in 20 games is not leading? The management re-signed Miller too soon and somehow decided to give Boeser 3 year deal. This has forced us into a corner where we have to trade Bo. The way I see it, trading Bo will immediately start our descent to the basement. We will get a good pick as a result and the management will have pulled off the most sneaky rebuild ever. I bet Francesco has no idea what is going on. I just hope that we get lucky for once and get a franchise player in this draft to go along with Petey and Hughes.
  14. I think the fans can stomach a rebuild. The owner can't. So, I think the management will do their best to re-sign Bo even if it means overpayment. If we do re-sign Bo, him and Miller give us a scoring line with size that should do some damage in the playoffs (if and when we get there). Adding a two-way winger to that line to cover for the defensive flaws of the two players will help greatly. Because right now, even though they are scoring, they are also on the ice for a lot of goals against. I was hoping Podz could grow into that role but I guess the coaches don't see him as that player. With Hoglander playing on that line last game, maybe they see Hoglander as a better fit there. I sure hope it works out with whether it's Hog or Podz. The bottom 6 needs a major upgrade. Lazar and Joshua are good. Aman is a bit soft for my liking for a 4C but he is passable as he competes. Podz should be fine there but the fact that he scored 14 goals in his rookie season and he has good read of the game. I wonder if we are culling his upward potential by forcing him to play a bottom 6 role. Boeser and Garland are not well suited for a third line role. The management's ability to ice a more balanced team hinges upon being able to clear Boeser's cap and getting assets back for Garland. Then, it remains to see what sort of magic they will perform to upgrade the defence. If they do succeed in upgrading the defence, I think we have a good basis for a team that should be able to compete and may not need to enter a rebuild.
  15. I thought McCaw fired Burke? Yes, we are stuck with Acquillini. I think he loves the team for sure but it does look like he is short sighted. He's become the Glazer family of NHL. I heard the Glazers finally decided to sell Man Utd after so many fan protests. Maybe we should do the same?
  16. Nonis's contributions often go under appreciated as he was sandwiched between Burke and Gillis. Thank you Nonis! He alertly noticed that Bert's game was on the decline and didn't hesitate to make the trade. Bert was a fan favorite but a lot of the fans including myself were ecstatic when we realized that Luongo was the return. Not giving up Kes and Eagle for Richards was a great decision. I will say this though about Brad Richards. If he found a way to get a deal done, the team may have won the cup in either 2011 or 2012. Considering what Dallas eventually gave up for Brad Richards (Jussi Jokinen, Jeff Halpern, Mike Smith, and a 4th round pick, the package of Schneider and Bourdon was more than fair.
  17. Thanks for the advice. But it's hard to stop thinking about it. Bedard-Petey We would be contending for the cup for years to come with those two leading the way.
  18. I sense a win. I'll cheer for and celebrate every win but with each win Bedard is going to another team. Conflicting.
  19. I agree that he must earn an NHL spot. But he did that already. He made the team out of camp, so you could say he already earned his spot on the roster and a chance to play. I disagree that NHL is not a development league. Petey is developing into an elite two way player and Bo developed his offensive game. Marky was given every opportunity to succeed; yes he dominated the AHL level first but so did Rathbone. While I agree that Rathbone's defensive game is lacking, the team is so shallow on defence that I'm not sure he is such a huge downgrade over playing a guy like Stillman (once Myers is traded as that is the premise of the discussion on this thread). The fact that this team failed to develop players once they make the NHL is part of the reason why this team hasn't had continued success. Hogs had 13 goals in 56 games, Podz had 14 goals in 70 games. Now they seem to have developed some sort of phobia for the back of the net. These guys have made the NHL, it's now time for the team to provide proper coaching and put them in a position to succeed. If we were a contender, I'd understand why these guys don't get playing time but we are not.
  20. Agree agree... but we are trying to get Bedard here. Let him work on his defensive play in the NHL.
  21. Zub is a good player but do we need a rental just to try and make the playoffs? I'd rather not give up an asset for a rental. Trade Myers to them for whatever we can get. Try to sign Bo; otherwise trade Bo and get picks and prospects back. Ottawa will probably trade Zub at the TDL for a good return.
  22. Myers for their 2nd rounder? We lost ours in the trade for Stillman. Get Rathbone in the line up so that he can develop (although Bruce will likely have Stillman playing ahead of Rathbone for sure). QH-Schenn OEL-Bear Rathbone-Burroughs Our already horrible defence will be worse without Myers but at least we get closer to getting Bedard.
  23. What is Michkov's projected upside? Is he the next Bure or more like Kucherov?
  24. The fact that Bedard is doing what he does at 5'10 180 lbs is a testament of his skill level. Bigger guys that physically matured early have put up great numbers in the NHL only to disappoint once they got to the NHL (i.e. Virtanen). Not saying Fantilli is Virtanen but size can mask some issues at junior and amateur levels.
