  1. You say McDavid was far ahead of Eichel but I remember there were some pundits questioning who should go first overall. They probably were saying the same thing: Eichel is playing against men putting up numbers almost never seen before while McDavid against teenagers. WHL seems to be more defensive league and therefore harder to score than the OHL. Bedard's 2.18 in the WHL to McDavid's 2.55 in the OHL may not be that far off. Fantilli's has just played 12 games thus far. If he indeed ends the season at or near 2 PPG, then that will be super impressive indeed. If everything is equal, you go with bigger guy for sure. But I think Bedard's skill level might be at a notch above Fantilli's. If we get #1 overall pick, we should go with the consensus #1, which will be Bedard. Imagine we go off the board and pick Fantilli and Bedard goes on to become the next best player in the league and win cups for another team.
  2. Agree that Horvat won't keep his current scoring rate. 23% is unsustainable. But I disagree with the bolded. Bo takes 200+ shots over a full season. His career shooting rate is about 12-13% but you could clearly see that his shot has improved quite a bit over the years. It is not unreasonable to think that he will continue to sustain accuracy at over 13%. That equates to about 30 goals a season. He takes and wins a lot of faceoffs. That's something that he will continue to excel in. He is also the captain of the team and has done a good job in representing the team. And with Petey emerging as an elite two-way centerman, Bo is freed up to focus on offence. And he is killing it now that he has high caliber linemate in Miller and with Petey taking on the the match up duties like he did against the MacKinnon line. Fair value for Horvat was about 7 mil in the offseason, somewhat comparable to what Kadri got. And considering that he is the captain and have been a good soldier for the team all his career, 7 or even an 8 year deal would have been fine. Given the cap situation and the gaping holes on our defence, one of Miller and Horvat had to be traded. To me it was an easy decision to trade Miller, not because Miller is a bad player. Miller is a great offensive player and I would keep him every day if we had the cap space to keep him.
  3. Petey is on his way to top 5 on this list along with Hintz by the end of the season. Realistically, a winger like Marner usually don't get votes because how good he is offensively (although I think he deserves consideration). Danault, while a great defensive center, doesn't put up enough offence. He won't get enough votes to be in the top 5. It will be Barkov, Bergeron, Stone, Hischier, Pettersson or Hintz in the top 5. Barkov will dominate this award for the next 5-10 years once Bergeron retires. Hintz, Hischier, Pettersson will be in contention during those years. Petey will need to improve his faceoff percentages to over 53% as that seems to be one of the hallmarks of Selke winners.
  4. Dries did score some key goals and he generally plays hard, which makes him a likable player. But his line is a defensive liability. I notice the line of Garland/Hoglander/Podkolzin-Dries-Boeser being in our own zone more often than not and having difficulties defending the point, the front of the net, and winning the board battles. Dries has GA/60 of 6.17 while the expected GA/60 is 2.96. When the actual GA/60 is that much worse than xGA/60, it's usually a sign of weak defensive player who is prone to letting in goals that shouldn't go in (i.e., shots from the point or perimeters). Guess who has the worst GA/60 on the team? Brock Boeser with 6.25. Brock's xGA/60 is 4.11, which is a sign that he is a very poor defensive player since high xGA/60 tells you that you give up many good scoring opportunities. Having GA/60 > xGA/60 means the opponents are converting those chances that they are expected to convert and also on those chances that they normally shouldn't convert. I don't think it's a good idea to play Dries and Boeser together; but if Boeser must be in the line up then we need stronger defensive player to mask away his deficiencies. Dries is not it unfortunately. Of course no stat is perfect and there is goaltending effect and teammate effect on the actual GA/60. But look at Petey's numbers in comparison. He is the only elite two way center that we have. Petey's GF/60 > xGF/60 and his GA/60 < xGA/60. Meaning that he converts more often relative to what's given up by the opponents and allows less than what is expected. Most importantly, his GF/60 > GA/60 by quite a margin. So if a player is truly good at both ends of the ice, it will show up in the numbers regardless of goaltending and teammate effects. I think Dries is OK as a temp fill-in but we need someone better that will help us in terms of preventing goals against. I think it's time to give Lazar another shot at playing center and insert Podz into the lineup on the 4th line. 5. The trade should be pending medical examination. I'd roll the dice on Byram + F prospect + 1st for Bo.
  6. I like Aman. He's a bit soft for a 4C but brings speed and decent skill and hockey IQ. But Dries man. I love the guy and maybe Boudreau sees a bit of himself in Dries but man, we need to do better. I'd rather get Lazar back to play center and put both Podz and Hogs in the lineup.
  7. Avs trading for Horvat will put everyone in the right places for them: Rodrigues as 3C, Compher as 4C, and Megna in the AHL. Trading Bo away will be a double win for us., We get prospects back while significantly increase our chance at getting Bedard or a top 3 pick in the next draft. This team needs a jolt in the way of a superstar player that are only available through the draft. And as much as I like Bo on the Canucks, it would be nice to see him get a chance to win the cup with the Avs.
  8. Jason Robertson was a second rounder. Adam Fox was a high third rounder. Unless you are a contender, a top 8 team in the league, you should keep your 1st and 2nd almost every year let alone trade it for a marginal player like Stillman. It takes one Jason Robertson or Adam Fox to propel a playoff team to becoming a contender. IMO, the only way to build a contender aside from relying on insane fortune (like drafting MAF-Malkin-Crosby-Letang) is that you form a core set of players and let them develop together and establish team culture by infusing veterans. And then you bide your time until you get a chance to draft or sign key players that can propel you upwards. Obviously, you need to make deals to improve your team when you can but you can't be trading as many picks as we have. We are no where near being a contender, yet we've had one 1st (Lekkerimaki) and one 2nd (Klimovich) round draft picks in the past 3 years. JR's interview where he pinned the weak defence on Boudreau and not on the personnel was the sign of things to come. He assessment that our defence is good enough just goes to show how little he cares or knows about our team.
  9. Good post. The riot part though, the true fans went home quietly, disappointed. If you had spent your entire life wanting to see the Canucks win the cup and with the way we lost in Game 7... you just don't have energy left to pull off that sort of $hit. I wouldn't associate the true fans with the riot in any way. Those were hooligans that showed up just with the purpose of causing havoc. They weren't interested in the team. The team has flaws. There are gaps everywhere, coaching, defence, and even up front. We have many skilled forwards but no grit guys, the Sutters, Beagles, Hansens, and Burrows type players. It all dates back to 2020 off season. It rarely works out where you replace that many important roster positions with new players. Improvement had to be incremental and up to 2020, I think we were on the upward trajectory. But then, 2020 the management philosophy shifted. We saw many important players that was part of building up the culture leave (Marky and Tanev) and the same in 2021 (Edler, Beagle, Roussel). I think in 2020, it was true that we may have been 2-3 years away. Now we have to build up our culture from the scratch. It's a long road ahead.
  10. He would be a 2C on our team behind Petey and should not be paid more than 7. Otherwise, we should trade him. Just roll with Petey-Miller as the scoring line centers and sign a 3C for defensive duties like we signed Beagle. Might have to overpay for one though.
  11. 3 first overalls? 14: Ekblad 15: McDavid 16: Matthews 2016 Canucks centers: McDavid Matthews Henrik Horvat They needed to rebuild after losing to the Sharks in 2013 but I don't think 3 years would have been enough barring a miracle. We failed to draft a 1st line player since drafting the Sedins in 1999. The talent gap was so massive that it would still have taken a while to rebuild.
  12. Thank you for your advice. Yes, I have been re-reading our conversation 100 times and reached the conclusion that your first language is worse than my 5th language. Here is the full transcript of our conversation. I think you need practice too! You claimed that our PP sucked last year as well. This is where I proved you wrong. This is where you lied about Hughes being injured and out for an extended period. Then I caught your BS and called you for it. Your ego must have been damaged by this point? Then you said he only played 6 games. So I pointed out that last season he played 76 games. 6 is the number from this season. This is where things got hilarious. 82 - 76 = ?? lol Then, being a good citizen, I decided to respond once more. The rest doesn't matter. It's just you being embarrassed and making stuffs up.
  13. @FaninMex lol that last comment of yours gave me a good laugh though. 82 games in the season minus 76 = ?? Have a good night!
  14. lol no English isn't my first language, it's my 5th language. But it seems like my English is better than yours. That's what you said when I pointed out how good our PP was last season with Hughes. And I just showed you that Hughes played 76 games last season. English is your first language and yet you can't comprehend English...?
  15. Francesco is a fan of this team. A fan should never own a team.
  16. what?? lol Are you rejecting the notion that Hughes played 76 games and played majority of the powerplay minutes on a team that finished 9th in the league? By your logic, the Blackhawks didn't need Patrick Kane to gain the zone. That's just dumb. Just admit that you didn't follow the team last season and that you are basing your opinion on the 3 game samples from this season. Gaining the zone with control and walking the blue line are two of the hardest things to do on PP. If you paid attention, you would know how easily Kane gained the zone and how well Keith walked the line during the Blackhawks dynasty years. And now this kid Cale Makar can gain the zone, walk the line, and shoot the puck. I agree that OEL has the shot and that makes it more interesting once we are in the zone. Hughes weakness is indeed the shot. But I have no doubt that without Hughes, the other teams will start to adapt and we will have harder time gaining the zone. Why is the second unit having so much trouble gaining the zone and setting up? I don't disagree that the PP system they play is stale but don't blame Hughes for that. They could easily change up the PP formation. You could also easily blame Pettersson and Miller for the cute passes back to Hughes and yet you turn your cheek on those guys.
  17. Go look at Hughes stats for 2021-22 https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=187519. He played 76 games scored 68 points. He played 6 games this season and scored 6 points. I've watched at least 30 games live last season. Quinn Hughes makes PP entries seamless. He has his weaknesses, but we need him on the PP. Again, this season's struggle is more on the coaches not changing things up. What can Hughes do? He's just playing the PP system drawn up by the coaches. The other teams' coaches are doing their job and know exactly how to nullify it.
  18. If we are out by the TDL, it's a no brainer to trade Bo and hopefully Miller as well to get as many assets back as possible. This core has had a lot of chances. The effort level and consistency just isn't where it needs to be to win in this league on a nightly basis. We can't be going for it again with the same group. That'd be plain stupid. It would be nice to give Bo a chance to win elsewhere too.
  19. It's 76 games. I'm talking about last season. 6 games is the number of games he played this season. You didn't follow the team last season did ya?
  20. Not yet. But if the next 10 games is like the first 10 games, the season is pretty much over. Demko is fighting the puck a lot. I don't see this team going anywhere with the way he is playing right now.
