[Rumour] Time's up! Finish your last sentence...
jyu replied to AngryElf's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I see Hoglander going with Myers. I absolutely despise this thought but that's the significant piece that we will have to part with. Running his contract out is no longer an option since we are already over the cap even before the off-season hit. I've never seen this before. It will have to be cap retention. But my guess is Garland is easier to trade and Boeser will stay. If Boeser's a$$ is not on fire this summer after losing his role to Kuzmenko and being demoted to the 3rd line, then his career is essentially over after his current deal. He might get a team offering a 1 year deal but that will be his last chance. They still need to figure out what to do. Is he coming back on the team? If the answer is no, then what are the ways to deal with his contract? Trade is not viable without, I'd say our own 1st rounder going away, so it's a big fat no. Buyout is short-sighted. If Allvin buys him out, he's not interested in the long term outlook of the team and his own job is at risk. LTIR may be an option depending on his injury and how OEL himself feels about his physical abilities. If he is back because there's no way to deal with his contract, then what are the options to create cap space to accommodate him while upgrading the team? I don't think they have answers to these questions but they better hurry because the time bomb is ticking. -

Starting with Bo trade, it's been about 1 month of speculation and anticipation. Two major deals were Bo and Hronek. Minor deals were Lazar, Schenn, and Kravtsov. - Bo trade was good, I'd give it an A. That trade seemed to indicate that the team was willing to take a step back to stockpile on assets/picks. - Then Kravtsov deal was also good. Low risk but high reward. - Schenn deal was fair. I think he will be brought back. The fact that we play Toronto tomorrow and his baby expecting right about now... I'd say they sent him to Toronto after consulting him and that was deliberately done so to bring him back. - Lazar deal also good. He wasn't finding his role here as well as expected and we got a 4th round pick. - Then the Hronek deal. It sent a mixed signal. What is the plan? Are we entering a proper 2-year retool where we stockpile young players and develop them or going for playoffs next season? This deal affirmed that they will try to do both. Next up: 1. Trade Myers. 2. Trade Boeser or Garland (maybe both). 3. Figure out what to do with OEL. 4. Revamp the defence and upgrade bottom 6 with the cap space created. My guess is that they will run out of time and barely complete trade Myers and maybe trade Garland. -

Allvin will be fired if he brings up OEL buy out to Aquillini. -
I will say that as a fan of the Canucks, I welcome every new player especially when the player expresses excitement about playing for the team. Good acquisition. Welcome to Vancouver Filip.

OEL isn't a bad player if not for his injury or whatever it is that prevents him from skating. The question is if he can recover his skating, if not, there's no point in rushing back because he isn't helping anybody other than to tank. He might as well retire or go on the LTIR. Hronek alone won't solve our problems, this move needs to be backed up by other trades and probably UFA signings. Whether they can achieve this in one off season remains in question. The management has been very active so I'm cautiously optimistic that they may be able to sort things out in time but not sure if they can considering the difficulty of the tasks that lay ahead of them. My money is on them being forced into hastily dumping Myers contract with a fairly significant sweetener (my worst fear is that it's Hoglander) and then saying that it was hard to free up cap -- the exact same bull$hit excuse as last season and we go with status quo plus Hronek. That would be a massive fail because one, we will suck again but not suck enough to get a top 5 or even a top 10 pick and two, we have given up on relatively high two draft picks just for a mediocre season. Just like this one. I'm hoping I'm wrong and my worst fear doesn't get realized. I'm rooting for Allvin.

If he retires now, will there be cap-recapture? -

This is a good point as well. I don't think they are interested in taking a step back so JT isn't going anywhere unless either a center is coming back our way or we draft an NHL ready center in 2023. -

Hey, it's the Canucks. Lowering your expectations will help your mental health. Accept that JT is here for a while. I've accepted it. They will constantly try to do the seemingly impossible task of competing for the cup without taking a step back. Maybe it will work this time? -

Yes. I think Podz is not strong enough yet to go through the best defenders of the league yet, but he is realizing that he needs to work on his strength and conditioning to be able to do that on a nightly basis. And he's got that attitude and character to work his a$$ off in the summer to get there. Pretty exciting stuff and considering Hoglander who is lighting it up in the AHL, we might have a fast, young, skilled, and versatile wingers in the top 9: Beau, Kuz, Podz, Krav, Mik. Pretty good balance. -

Good game. Demko was solid. I almost forgot that the NHL goalies are supposed to absorb pucks and control rebounds... Demko is reminding me. Podz and Kravs were great together. You can see Podz work rate wearing off well on his fellow countryman. In the event that we jettison both Garland and Boeser, could they be options on Miller's wing? Petey's line was good at times but you can clearly see that Kaprizov was the better offense generator. Kaprizov is a next level offensive player to Petey. Probably one notch below McDavid but on par with Pastrnak. If and when Petey gets to that next level and as his defensive prowess progresses, we could be looking at Sergei Fedorov level player, a player that can win Hart and Selke. Upon realizing this, it makes sense to try to expedite the retool -- although it won't be easy. Defence is starting to get better. Now get rid of Myers and OEL and we can revamp the defence. -
The equivalent would be, JT Miller (Duchesne) 4th overall pick (Michkov or Carlsson roughly Forsberg in value) Demko (Hextall) Lazar (Huffman) Podkolzin (Ricci -- former high 1st round pick playing with good two way game) Joshua (Simon -- Joshua isn't an enforcer but as close as we have at the moment) 2024 1st 2025 1st 15 million dollars Whichever team that makes this trade with us will win the cup in 3-4 years like the Avs. I like it. If it gets us Bedard, mortgage the future!!
