what they MIGHT have meant is that if he goes to the AHL, he'll be stuck there, because we already used our 4 call-ups and he'd only be eligible to come up on an emergency basis. but this would only matter if they legitimately wanted to play him in the NHL this season...

virtanen IS eligible to play in AHL, that news 1130 statement is very false. "Only those players on a team’s playoff eligibility list, plus signed draft choices and players signed to amateur tryout contracts, are eligible to compete in the Calder Cup Playoffs." i think we still own his rights until the end of the season, or was it last season, but either way we'd have to sign him to a contract to bring him over, and he would not qualify for the comets playoffs because he wasn't on their clear day roster. it would just be for the remainder of the comet's season... and considering they just clinched their division, they have no reason to need him right now.

40 games per season for a goalie his age is enough for his development. if he were to go to the AHL he'd play less than that behind eriksson or markstrom anyway.

I'm just glad people are starting to see what I got to see every now and then when a Maine game came on TV. I've been high on this kid ever since that first game i saw him play in, and it looks like he's even bigger now than a couple years ago (though that may be because the rink size is smaller or the uniforms are different). he's definitely became an even better player over the years, but his potential just oozes out and is slowing being refined into pure gold... that's a disturbing visual... but you get the idea.

Here he is headed out to the ice for the first time: glad to see they are throwing him into the fire in one of the most important games of the year (potential playoff clincher)
