  1. Forget Santorelli. Is Booth the savior?
  2. Totally dense. I went back and watched. The puck goes through the first defender on the boards to Garrison in front of the net. He mistakenly realizes his stick is turning towards the puck on the ice to protect the crease. His stick hits the puck which then rebounds directly into the crowd with no one around him. What is not to get there?
  3. Unless I missed it the other guy was 5 feet away. He just blatantly mishit it into the crowd.
  4. The announcing was brutal there. Yeah, it's a penalty guys.
  5. Well that's fine and dandy. I didn't say you can't have your opinion just don't go off the handle and expect everyone to understand the situation like you and have the exact same viewpoint as you. For what is is worth you have my apology for referring to 12 years olds and thus comparing you to one (I actually wasn't calling you 12 though). It was to prove a point, when I was 25 I was exactly like you in terms of belief. We all progress through stages in our life. Of course I've now been through 15 more Canuck seasons since then which gives me a different perspective. In fact, 15 years ago this was the best we had to hope for. I would have been hanging on and hoping to hope of all hopes ... and it would have been fun. And it was like this every single year ... without fail, or with fail works just as well I guess. Now, with the success we have had in the last 6 -10 years coupled with the decline of this team in a lot of ways, the lack of flexibility to bring in new players, the inability to add to the top 6 (for whatever reason), the injuries to Sedin, Sedin, Kesler, Burrows, Santorelli, Tanev, Bieksa, Stanton, Edler, the suspension of coaches and players alike, the trading of our only experienced goalie, and the FACT that we are virtually eliminated at this point, it brings me to the conclusion that cheering the team to win a couple games for the old college try is rather unrewarding at this point in my life, and at this point in the season. So am I obligated to do so here just because you do? Like I said everyone should be entitled to their viewpoint and I thought that's what this website was about. A fourm free to all to view and post comments regarding the Canucks, general hockey and the like. I was not aware that all of our posts had be rosy, cheery, and 100% full of positivity. If that is the case I missed it when I read the rules. If someone wants to show me that I will be more than happy to stop posting and sharing my opinion. Anyways, I hope the Canucks go 9-0, Phoenix goes 4-5, and Dallas goes 4-6, we beat the Blues in 7, Hawks in 7 and Ducks in 7 on the way to beating the Bruins in 7, to win the CUP. GO CANUCKS GO -we can do this -believe in blue
  6. Not all of us here are 12. It can happen but it is also more likely not to happen. Not everyone has to be blind, a follower, and a cheerleader, to enjoy hockey and have a favorite team. Some of us enjoy using our brains in relation to the hockey we're watching. I can't believe how many people are butthurt that not everyone sticks their head directly in the sand when considering how this season will play out. Torts did say he would think about the goaltending today. But yeah, it's got me boggled as well. According to the comments made earlier by Torts in this thread I would derive that they are putting him through the ringer to see how he'll respond. In that sense I guess it's better than throwing him into the fire next year. For what it's worth Torts said he has handled it quite well.
  7. Phoenix just needs to go 6-3 down the stretch to beat us if we go 9-0. Comp'nee Halt, Preeee-zent Arms! The war is over.
  8. Hopefully, that will mean someone the rest of us want will fall a spot.
  9. Especially is we lose to day as well. Then it's really all over.
  10. Thanks for the info. Definitely is very interesting and I like the methods. I know the numbers tend to work out but I also know when you are actually in a playoff race as a player you don't look that far ahead. If we can win 2 games and they drop 2 games we are right back in it. As a player you hope to win a game or two and then re-asses the situation. That's all you can do. One other thing it doesn't calculate is that say we do win a couple and all other teams lose a couple. The closer we get the more pressure falls on the other teams. You go from thinking as a player that "hey, we should make it", to "oh shoot, if we don't win our next game we're in trouble. One other problem I forsee is that the other teams play each other meaning at least one of those teams are getting two points in that game, so it's a guaranteed win situation for someone. Worse yet, the possibility of OT in one of those games is a real killer. Edit: In addition, the cominbation of Dallas Phoenix, Winnipeg, and Minny play against each other in 5 games before the end of the season meaning you can already chalk up 5 guaranteed wins somewhere in that grouping. Having said that this team has mentally exhausted me. I need some rest anyway.
  11. Yeah, Daniel has looked like his old self the last couple games. Great to see.
  12. Hockey games aren't random and the percentages are recalculated daily. All you're doing is presenting a statiscal probability that doesn't take into account how the teams are playing, who they are playing, or who is injured. It also assumes fair competition but no teams schedule is the same. As Oldnews mentioned it takes no account for winning streaks and assumes all equations are linear which they aren't. You can't forsee win streaks but over an 80 game schedule a 3 or 4 game winstreak will greatly affect your probability outcome at that moment. When all the teams are playing games at pretty much the same pace that's impossible to predict. If your team is about to go on a 4 game winstreak you should be using that new percentage 3 games into the future as your basis to predict future points, making your current prediction useless and untrue. Also add to that in this league where they give away points like candy teams are closely grouped 3-5 points apart. If you look at probability and look at the peaks and valleys like 3 or 4 game win streaks over a season it really comes down to when a team will go on the next one. Going on a win streak at game 79 of the season could mean you're in whereas if your team were destined to go on your next streak at game 83 you could miss the playoffs because of that. It is almost impossible to predict when these streaks will start as there are so many factors invovled.
  13. I counted up the other day, I've played in the vicinity of 80 full Hockey, Rugby, and Soccer seasons, add to that the 36 years I've been following the Canucks and I know as well as anyone that it's not over until it's over. However, I'm not a player and I'm getting a little tired of holding out hope when the chances are so slim. Combine that with our last couple years, the state of the team, the benefit of a high draft pick, and then missing the playoffs is not that bad, nor does it make you a bad fan. If you're a 20 year old punk you're damn right you should be holding out hope until the very end. When you go through more adversity in your life and have the experience that the rest of us do then you can afford to be realistic and accept your fate.
  14. Getting sick of these believe in the team whiners. You don't ever "give" up in sports but for people that have been diehard Canuck fans for decades I think they have the right to hope for a good draft pick after following this horrible season. Yeah, we might make it, but we probably won't ... get over it. It would be different if there was 3 games left and we needed to win all 3 with help but we are virtually done with 10 games left, on an injury riddled team, that was lacking completeness to begin with. Stop criticizing people for using common sense. Please. That's very true. The thing people don't get is that those percentage numbers don't really mean anything. If you win a game or two and the other teams lose a game or two your percentages change drastically and then that old percentage is meaningless. It also doesn't properly account for all the ties or the fact that hockey isn't random and can't be predicted in such a fashion.
  15. Those stats aren't very reliable anyway. You can shoot up and down drastically after only a couple games.
  16. He's just going to literally play him until he drops dead. Next goalie starts.
  17. I want to see him back just to see him fail one more time at bringing in a top 6 player. The single thing he's really needed to do for 4-5 years running now. Took team to the finals (added key pieces in Torres, Erhoff, Malhotra, Samuelsson..) - fracked it up shortly after Dan Hamhuis - good signing Tanev - great signing which he'll probably lose this year because of the Edler signing Eddie Lack and Joackim Ericksson - Lack has been not bad Dane Fox signing - nothing yet Signed the majority of the core to bargain deals before cup run - absolutely useless as he's wasted more money then he's ever saved Drafted some gems (Jensen, Horvat, Corrado, Cederholm..) - not really that difficult - none have had a meaninful impact yet Traded Luongo and that Contract (an accomplishment in it's self) - he had too because he's an idiot In reality he did the best GM job ever in his first 3 years for the Canucks to get us to the 2011 finals. It's been all downhill from there with one mistake after another ... namely no second line or RW capable of slotting in on the first.
  18. We seem invested in him. He should get a fair deal all around. Could take a gamble and sign him to a 4 year deal at a lower price point.
  19. I think we'll end up 7th or 8th overall. I'm starting to hope Perlini is still there.
  20. If we can get a legit guy to beef up that line it could work. He's an ideal 3rd liner though. I suppose we'd better start with 2 legit 2nd liners before we hope for 3 of them.
  21. I notice your replies always have the person's name missing. I know I lose them too sometimes and have to re-quote. Something to do with that latest upgrade I would think.
  22. I've never wanted our team to lose before or put this much hope in a couple draft postions but MG has backed us into such a corner we really need a Monahan type of player.
  23. boooo, this would bring a shootout win to an alltime low
