  1. All owners are "meddling" to some degree. I mean, its their business after all. Some, like Aquilini, Melnyk, and Dolan are seen as owners who force hockey ops decisions on executives with little reciprocal input prior to decisions being finalized.
  2. Aquilini being a meddling owner is not exactly a secret in the sports world. Vancouver fans choose not to believe that where there is dmoke there is fire and thats fine too.
  3. It really is. I love my business. I get to meet a lot of interesting people.
  4. Lol it hasnt gone to my head in 20 plus years so i doubt it would now. Its like any other job really.
  5. I work in the sports world, including with the nhl itself, the nhlpa, and the individual teams. Its not fake news bud.
  6. Its not really a "theory" that the Aquilini's significantly meddle in hockey related decisions. Its an acknowledged fact in the hockey world. It is, of course, their right to do so as its their team. But it has proven to be very costly to the team on many documented occasions.
  7. Its not even a 10th. President of Hockey Operations is a very detailed job requiring high level business skills. Bieksa is wholly unqualified for any front office position, let alone running the entire organization.
  8. Probably. But they had no chance against Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vegas either so who knows?
  9. Realistically, I do not believe that Benning/Green would want a Hughes, Juolevi, Rathbone left side. I expect slmething like an Edler re-sign or an OEL trade. Both overvalue veteran players significantly so I expect changes there or Edler back to play top 4.
  10. I hope he is trying to go for either of those guys before Tampa does what we all know they will do. Make a deal with Seattle to get them out of cap hell and leave them their good young players.
  11. I think Edler will be re-signed. 2 years @ 4 million per with a nmc. The explanation will be he is the steadying, big minute shutdown dman Green needs to ease Juolevi and Rathbone in with a platoon on the 3rd pairing. God I hope I am wrong. But it feels like it could happen.
  12. That still doesnt make OEL and his contract any better though. It just means we should let Edler go.
  13. I am a little optimistic about both Juolevi and Rathbone. I would like to see Juolevi with Schmidt and Rathbone with Myers. I think Shaw could do a lot with those pairings. That leaves a big hole with Hughes though who, imo, needs a better partner than Hamonic beyond next season. If Hamonic signs for 1 year, I would actually be ok with at least seeing what those pairings could do under Shaw's influence. But I would prefer a younger, top level rhd to play with Hughes long term. Pre expansion might be the best opportunity to pry one of those guys out of another team at a reasonable cost. There are not very many scenarios where I would want OEL. Left handed D are much easier to find too. So if there needs to be an upgrade there I think we cando better than that contract. Good player but nothing about that contract feels like anything but regret.
  14. Good. Hopefully the frustrations continue. No way in hell any of our top young players or prospects should be on the table for OEL and his albatross contract. Or our 9OA pick. He should be a cap dump with that contract imo.
  15. I am not saying the Aquilini's have been bad owners. I am simply saying even at the time it didnt feel like Benning or Willie D were really decisions driven by Linden. The public face was that they were but they really felt like they had more than just approval level influence from ownership.
  16. Linden felt a lot more like a PR stunt to appease fans. But he did have some experience on the business side of things with his own business and with his time with the NHLPA. I think a lot of Linden's rookie mistakes might actually have been owner influenced ones.
  17. I am a firm believer that just being a former Canuck doesnt make you qualified to be in management or coaching at the nhl level. I like easing guys like the Sedins into an expanded role. This is how it should be done if you want former players in the fold. Assuming its not just a PR move (which, with Aquilini, is certainly at least fair to wonder about). If Bieksa wants to become an NHL coach, take an assistant job in Abbotsford or coach in junior for a few years first.
  18. Bieksa is custom built for a role in the media like he has now. He has no coaching experience plus his personality combined with his personal schtick (humor, sarcasm, etc.) is fantastic in a media gig but doesnt sound like top skills needed in an NHL coach.
  19. I would almost prefer a tame offseason. Get the EP and QH business done, sniff out a couple of potential expansion draft motivated reasonable cost trades for a couple of younger guys at key positions, and sign some better placeholders to one year deals. I expect the team to be better next year with even minimal changes. But if they are not clearly in a comfortable playoff spot at the trade deadline (and by this I mean a virtual lock for the playoffs, not having any mathematical chance of making it), sell those 1 year contract guys and any other non essential pieces you can for picks, prospects, or long term improvements to build cap space and a pool of assets to use to go all in next summer on revamping the roster with impact guys at key positions. Hopefully Aquilini will allow Benning to be able to take a strategic two offseason approach now that he has committed to keeping him. Why keep a guy only to put him on the hot seat that inevitably leads to panic and reactionary short term decisions?
  20. Would not at all have an issue if we could get Cernak for a reasonable cost by taking on Johnson.
  21. Lets say the contract is 8 years at 8 million per for arguments sake. Look at the OEL trade thread where some want to trade the 9th OA pick to unload Eriksson and take back OEL. I would rather dump Schmidt for a pick or entice Seattle to take him, use a non essential prospect and/or mid round pick to dump a guy like Roussel or Beagle, and sign Hamilton than make the above trade all day, every day.
  22. Hamilton would be a tough guy to get. One of Schmidt or Myers would need to go. And probably at the very least one min 3 mil cap dump. Its not impossible, but its pretty unlikely. He is not really what we need in terms of a top rhd but certainly would be a huge upgrade.
  23. Its worth it for the Canucks, not sure if Ottawa likes it as much.
  24. Its more likely if they knew for sure and had a desl in place they would have been able to get more for Schmidt. The fact the Schmidt trade and Pietrangelo signing were announced minutes apart tells me it came together quickly.
