These allegations, if true, have absolutely nothing to do with Jake Virtanen the hockey player. They have to do with Jake Virtanen the human being. If this was Horvat or Hughes or EP or anyone else that isnt already hated by Canucks fans, the response and call for patience and allowing an investigation to determine the truth would be a lot different on here and on social media.

It is possible for someone to be a total scumbag and still be innocent of these accusations. They arent mutually exclusive. Thats what police investigations are for. The teams move and statement is standing operating procedure of most companies. The last thing they want to do is publicly take a stance supporting or vilifying the player. Their approach is in no way an admission they know he is guilty. Jake shutting down his twitter is also not an indication of guilt. Maybe he just doesnt want to get inundated with the $&!#storm of vitriol he is going to receive from people who arent willing to accept someone is innocent until proven guilty. He is probably being advised by his lawyer not to say anything. Again, pretty standard course of action. Honestly, there is nothing in what you said that proves anything either way at this point.

Thats exactly why I am saying it needs to be properly investigated. Convicting Virtanen in the public sphere based on an opinion that justice cannot be served by a proper investigation is flawed logic. If the victim wants to be believed, she needs to do that through the police and the court process, not through an anonymous site. I understand it is extremely hard to come forward and I feel for this woman because she is now being forced to even if she isnt ready to. There is zero chance it will be under reported at this point though.

It is possible to believe the victim is being truthful and still respect that the accused is innocent until proven guilty. Society now likes to skip or discount one of those realities far more than they should in these situations.

[Signing] Jets re-sign Adam Lowry
wallstreetamigo replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In the current landscape, with most teams not having much cap space, trading players is tough. There are not many teams around that can take on cap. Even a handful of teams on a no trade list can effectively make it impossible to trade a player. The problem with most of Bennings contracts isnt that they have trade protsction, its that they also have too long of term and too high of dollars vs what the player is worth. Finding a team to take on those kind of contracts would be tough even if the player couldnt refuse a trade to a handful of them. With any ability to do so, good luck moving that player. Considering Benning has been unable to move any of these contracts out, it sirt of supports the above theory. -
He was one of the only players who actually had a decent game against the Leafs though to be fair. And I think its unfair to assume the rumors are true or false at this point. The police should be investigating, not the cdc super sleuths looking for any excuse to vilify the guy. From what I read, he wasnt even actually named. Its a bad idea to assume anything at this point.

Effective pro scouting is about properly evaluating the player. But that analysis being accurate to the best extent it can is also the basis for valuing player contracts. Bennings contract signings clearly show he struggles properly evaluating players. -

Some of his worse signings: Eriksson, Gagner, Del Zotto, Schaller. Thats not including guys on the trade list he signed to bad contracts after trading too much for them like Sutter and Gudbranson. It also doesnt include decent players being overpaid by him (combo of term, dollars, and trade protection) like Beagle, Roussel, Virtanen, Myers, Pearson, Holtby, etc.) Some guys he traded for - many he paid too much and others were long shots to ever stick in the nhl and usually were being traded because they had become waiver eligible: Vey, Clendening, Baertschi, Prust, Sutter, Etem, Granlund, Larsen, Gudbranson, Goldobin, Pouliot, Leivo, Schenn, Spooner, Highmore You would think with that many swings some of them would become something good or stick in the nhl. -

I never said they were $&!#ty players. I said Tampa Bay needed the cap to sign a better player, Point, and Vegas needed the cap for Pietrangelo, again a bettef player. So both teams traded those players to free up cap. I also said both were good trades. But the prices would have been a lot higher if they werent cap dumps. I can provide lots of examples of his pro scouting being $&!#ty. Give me a few i will find the list. -

Off the top of my head the Miller trade was ok. The Schmidt one was good. Both were teams trying to shed cap though to be fair. Motte for Vanek took a long time but ended up good. Pearson for Gudbranson was decent. Pretty much everything else has been inconsequential to terrible. -

I thought you had me on ignore? I never said he would take the first offer. I said he would very likely be willing to overpay to get OEL. There is a difference there that I know you will struggle to see because you are so obsessed with replying to me that you refuse to see it.
