  1. Not sure why Juolevi is the guy coming out for Chatfield to go in. I guess Lind is playing with Highmore and Sutter? Sounds like a great opportunity to create offense lol
  2. Honestly I dont see the Canucks having enough ready prospects to fill all the holes and I dont think Benning is the type of GM who can resist signing expensive middling UFA players. I think there are a lot of good candidates out there for GM. Doesnt necessarily have to be another rookie GM. Jim Rutherford is available. Not sure if he is a fit, just one example of an experienced guy thats out there.
  3. Probably in both cases but point 1 shows just how costly the cumulative contract mistakes of Benning have been and point 2 really depends on if Benning keeps compounding them with more bad contracts. No guarantee he doesnt tbh.
  4. No i dont see anything special with him either tbh. He is pretty shaky defensively and positionally. Plays more like a rover than he should. Would rather see what Rathbone can do.
  5. That is not the same as re-signing a player you had previously traded a significant haul for and had exclusive rights to negotiate with as a UFA though. To offer sheet you give up picks.
  6. I post my opinions simply because i like talking hockey. Getting approval for them isnt a motivating factor to me at all. You posted a clip (I believe from 2018 no less) where Gaudette made defensive mistakes and extrapolated that out to suggest he is a complete garbage player as a result. My response was you could do the same with every NHL player as they all make mistakes, blow coverage, etc at some point. That type of hyperbole is a clear example of cherry picking bud. You really should see some of the PM messages I have got about you cherry picking or making ridiculous arguments based on skewed analysis. Its pretty funny actually.
  7. So Montreal could have re-signed Petterssen and Boeser as UFA but kept all those players instead? Cool story bro.
  8. I never quite understood the quoting nothing thing you do. If you dont want to respond why do you?
  9. I am confortable with my opinions. If other people cant accept them that sounds like a them problem bud. On a side note, guys like aGENT and oldnews frequently disagree with me and call me all sorts of things in the process. But the difference between them and you is that they at least do try to present somewhat non cherry picked data to support their arguments. Here is a tip. I dont care what anyone thinks of my opinions. So if you think you are going to change my mind by trying to be insulting you can move on to another target it might work on. I look at people on here as simply people with an opinion just like me. And we are all entitled to it and arent obligated to agree.
  10. Its all good. You dont have to reply to me its not like I force you to. Its not my fault you cant accept other peoples opinions without feeling the need to use the term "strawman". Its funny how other GM's seem to be able to sell players high. Benning has shown no ability to.
  11. I get what you mean. Its unfortunate but a reflection of society feeding off it.
  12. The boys might surprise us. I do think Green needs to start resting some guys and rotating some young guys in. They look gassed.
  13. I take media with a grain of salt especially nowadays. Sensationalism sells.
  14. I dont think it was the Montreal team themselves that posted that was it?
  15. The point wasnt really about Montreal though. They have obviously not managed their own cap very well. But Toffoli staying in Van was such a layup and I think its fair to point out how both the contracts signed by Benning and his inability or unwillingness to dump any of them to keep Toffoli (who was a clear good fit in the top 6) are the reason he couldnt re-sign him.
  16. The point is fair. A guy who Van easily could have retained that wanted to be here is outperforming all those bad contracts Benning chose to hanv onto or re-sign instead.
  17. I never gave him a free pass and i never said he didnt meddle. But its his team. Benning has been given a ton of leeway to sign players and build the team. Most of the strong voices have been fired and power has been consolidated with him. That means the buck stops with him. He is just pretty terrible at ufa signings, pro scouting, and cap management. When you buy a player out or bury them in the press box or the ahl, it still costs the owner money for someone who isnt playing for the team or contributing to its success. And each of those players has to be replaced on the roster with another player that also has to be paid. It adds up quickly and i dont blame an owner for not wanting to continue doing it. Any team that spends to the cap every year and still finishes near the bottom 80% of the time in your tenure is a strong indication you are a $&!#ty gm.
  18. Benning has signed one veteran to a 1 yr low money deal. Hamonic. Thats it. And when a player only wants to sign with 4 teams in the entire nhl and has burned through one of them already, its not like that was a hard signing. He did give him a nmc though. Every other veteran signing has been pretty bad. Usually above market value dollars, a year or two long on term, with trade protection also baked in. Book it. Benning will sign some vets to overpriced contracts this offseason. He has not done any differently until now.
  19. 1. If Benning was smart he would have traded Gaudette in the offseason. 2. Umm yes, Benning is pretty dumb about a lot of things. 3. Thats not the only conclusion. The other conclusion could be Benning didnt know how to get value for him or pump him up to increase his value. 4. Colliton said he wants Gaudette to get his conditioning back up. An extra note: Why would a team trade for a guy only to give up on him a few games later. Chicago has pro scouts and they have been pretty good at identifying players they can fit in.
  20. He spends to the cap every year. How is that being cheap? Maybe if he had a GM who could manage the salary cap he would not have to buy out a bunch of mistake contracts to be able to re-sign players. I understand if Aquilini told Benning no to buyouts. I mean, how often do you expect an owner to pay millions of dollars to buyout players or when they are sitting in the pressbox or the ahl? OEL was a disaster trade waiting to happen. Not sure why Benning was even trying to get him. He is massively overpaid and overrated. They would not have taken a bad contract back.
  21. Interesting that the owner was apparently willing to accept taking on OEL and his monster contract though. Benning was chasing him rather than negotiating with his own ufa after all. And he approved re-signing Virtanen in the off season and most recently Pearson. Aquilini has allowed Benning to operate at the cap maximum. The fact that has left a ton of dead money on the books is all on Benning. If Aquilini didnt want to pay buyout money etc i can certainly understand that. But then Bennibg should not have put himself in the position he had to ask just to have enough cap to re-sign Toffoli. Funny how every mistake Benning makes is magically someone else's fault (usually Aquilinis) but he gets credit for the good stuff others do. Like Brackett. Or Linden.
  22. No there will be another excuse disguised as an external reason he cant do his job well.
  23. Trading for Toffoli only to let him walk was a pretty big waste of assets though. Its not like Benning hasnt gone for it with disastrous results. He just usually does it on UFA day rather than trade deadline day. There are not many cap maxed bottom feeding teams from what I can tell. Lots of teams have cap crunches coming for sure. But not many have been bottom feeders the whole time either.
  24. I have been a fan since the late 70's. Pretty sure it wont even crack my top 50 worst games seen.
