  1. A trade for sure. A core offensive guy for bottom 6 toughness and/or pk capability in the bottom 6 or 3rd D pairing. Desperate GM’s make bad trades and I have a bad feeling about what’s coming next.
  2. I don’t think the players would be too upset if Weisbrod and Benning were canned. There have been lots of warning signs regarding players not feeling the team communices effectively down to them.
  3. No we are keeping Green and trading Miller or Boeser for bottom 6 toughness and pk ability I bet.
  4. Chiapet was a dumpster fire GM in Boston too. Guess who really set them up for their decade of success? Interim GM Jeff Gorton. Traded up to draft Marchand. Signed Chara and Horton. Traded garbage for Rask.
  5. It’s more likely a core top 6 player for bottom 6 or 3rd pairing D toughness. You just know if Benning makes a panic trade now we won’t like the return. Edit: and all the Benning supporters will immediately dump on the core player we trade as a cancer, etc to justify the low return then put their head in the sand about it when the underwhelming players we get back don’t actually make us any better. Seen this movie too many times.
  6. It feels like what Benning will do to try to save his job.
  7. They are meeting to figure out how to spin their full throated support for Green and his cast of ahl quality coaches.
  8. His next one will definitely include: ”I am a fan just like you.”
  9. Cue a core player being traded for toughness in the bottom 6 and on the bottom D pairing.
  10. More like: Frank: “Jim how do we stop the fans from revolting and not giving us money?” Jim: “We umm like tell them like umm that we are umm in the like process and that umm things will get like better if we just uhhhh follow the plan.” Frank: “What the &^@# did you just say?” Jim: “Exactly!”
  11. It’s just like every other year. Parity and loser points will convince the team they are still in it until the end when they will magically start winning games once eliminated to &^@# their draft odds. Honestly, seen this movie too many times now. Fire Benning, Weisbrod, Green, and any assistants not named Shaw or Clark and put competent people in charge who can have an actual plan that isn’t this:
  12. There are lots of examples of assistant coaches going back to being assistants after stints as interim head coaches. Whether he earns the full time job or not, Shaw should be kept on. He is our only good coach atm other than Clark. Nothing says hey we value you as a coach more than telling a guy he is too valuable as an assistant coach to be the interim head coach.
  13. No it’s not. It’s a distinctly different overall strategy than a retool. I’ll let you in on a secret. Trying to make the playoffs every year by signing over the hill vets to overpaid contracts to retool works a lot better when those players are actually good.
  14. When OEL has to step up, you know your team is weak af. I commend him but honestly if he gets injured this team is screwed. One of the passenger bottom 6 should be doing that but he got rid of them all.
  15. I think there is an issue between players and coaching. And players and management. If I was a player and was told I needed a vaccine to play because everyone on the team needed to be vaccinated I would be pissed at Benning caving in and giving Hamonic an exception. I would also have been pissed that management and coaches let a player practice while pending a COVID test that turned out to be positive. Hockey aside, both of those are threats to them, their careers, and most importantly their families. Some of whom got COVID due to the organizations lax standards. If I was a player I would not trust management or staff to do the right thing in any situation if they don’t with a life threatening disease.
  16. Hamonic will help but only really because Benning could not actually improve the defense. Hamonic is a 3rd pairing guy at this point but the Canucks think he is the answer to their crap defense.
  17. I wonder how the other players feel about having to get vaccinated to meet Benning’s 100% vaccination of the team promise at the start of the year then watching Benning make an exception for Hamonic.
  18. You do know the purpose of an “interim” coach, right? It’s the only acceptable option at this point as Benning should be fired too and no way should he be trusted to hire another 5 year coach. There is a bit of a difference between a guy with 0 experience on an NHL bench when hired, like Green, and a guy with 20 plus years as an NHL assistant coach becoming the interim head coach.
  19. Then he needs to fire Benning, Weisbrod, and Green now. Cause it ain’t happening with them in charge.
  20. I think the meeting was more likely called to figure out the best way to spin their total support for Green to minimize the collateral damage.
  21. Hire Jim Rutherford. He apparently would prefer a PoHO job but could serve as interim GM in the meantime. Instant organizational credibility. The roster needs to be evaluated with Shaw as interim coach before any trades are made. PoHO does a comprehensive search and finds a long term GM, long term GM evaluates coaching and hires his staff in the summer.
  22. Shaw as interim coach is fine. The team needs a new GM and a PoHO in a bad way.
