  1. So you are saying don’t take an experienced and successful head coach who hasn’t won a cup but taking a guy who has not only not won a cup but never coached an NHL game is a higher percentage play?
  2. I think the players have to be held accountable too. It’s not ALL on coaching. Here is the thing for me though. The roster has been radically turned over. The only constant is the management and coaching. The same issues are popping up every season. Replacing the coach and GM at this point is by far the lowest risk, highest reward type move Aquilini can make. Because trading a player or two with enough impact to change what is consistently wrong will mean trading core players. May as well try a new coach before giving up on this group IMO.
  3. There are several better coaches available. Boudreau, Julien, hell even Torts is much better.
  4. It’s hard to be worse than they are under Green’s systems. That’s pretty obvious at this point. Its more about a new voice right now and a new culture being developed. Maybe Shaw ends up only being an interim coach, who knows. The first order of business is to fire Benning and Weisbrod. Hire a PoHO who can serve as interim GM while he finds the long term replacement. Make Shaw interim coach and hire new assistants. Then realistically evaluate what you have roster wise and coaching wise and make long term decisions on them.
  5. I love this argument. Let’s keep a terrible coach because he must be the best we could get! There are a lot of coaches out there who would be a massive improvement over Green. Hell, Shaw probably would be.
  6. Hoglander has looked good all year IMO. He is the only player on the team who has other than Demko, the last couple of games notwithstanding. If it was Pearson making his line look good all year wouldn’t that kind of mean Pearson himself would have looked good all year? I can’t name one game this year where I would say Pearson has looked particularly good for a whole game. He usually has a few good shifts and a lot of meh or not good ones.
  7. The fact this likely IS the best team since 2012 is proof Benning needs to:
  8. Yep. My right now list of things to do. 1. Hire Jim Rutherford (or someone equally capable) as PoHO. 2. Fire Benning and Weisbrod. Rutherford takes over as Interim GM and starts an extensive search for a long term GM. 3. Fire every coach not named Shaw or Clark. 4. Name Shaw Interim HC. Hire experienced assistants, maybe even former head coaches looking for another shot. Take time to revamp the systems and style and assess the roster before making any big moves. 5. Let the new GM hire his coach.
  9. People hate the Vancouver media but they are soft as butter on Benning and Green IMO.
  10. I would like to see a follow up question or two on Green when he blames the PK. ”Why do you think guys like Hoglander and Podkolzin can’t PK? What is your reasoning for thinking they would automatically be worse than what is going on right now?” ”Do you think any of the failing of the PK is strategy and system of play related?” Someone should start point blanking this &^@#er.
  11. Interesting take. But no I would disagree. Garland was pretty clearly the reason his line was going early on and Hoglander is just as clearly the reason his line is going now. Pearson is incredibly overrated on here. Give Garland or Hoglander his prime minutes for 3+ years and I would bet my house they do far more with it.
  12. This level of line blendering is typically really just the last desperate swirl of the bowl for a coach. I expect tomorrow Aquilini and Benning will pledge their support for Green. Also, off topic and may just be me but does anyone else feel that other teams looking at our bench and seeing Jason King just encourages them to play tough? I mean, dude looks like a serious wimp lol.
  13. He wasnt bad. Tried to get penalty calls a bit too much for my liking though. Just play.
  14. His 10 min last game was garbage. Put him on the 1st pk unit. He at least knows how to move his feet.
  15. Won’t be surprised to see Benning trade Hoglander for a plug 3rd pairing physical D or 3rd line RH center. Sad that I actually think it could happen before any coaching moves do.
  16. Funny how often we say the line with Hoglander on it was the only good line.
  17. Horvat was garbage tonight IMO. Hoglander was probably the only consistently good forward.
