  1. That's what it looks like when one team knows they're not going to the playoffs. I'm not sure there's more to read into it than that. And I feel bad for Delia because he had a bad game and hopefully that won't play into his evaluation for next year.
  2. Myers height is actually a liability a lot of the time, because he's often looking waaaaay down to try and find the puck on the ice. Seriously his long arms and legs are just like a giraffe in a china shop.
  3. Which only points out how if they had played half way decent for longer strings at the beginning of the season we'd not be hoping for 9-0 runs and a prayer.
  4. Wondering where you got such specific data - last 20 game record over past 10 years ??
  5. Iti is frustrating as a long time fan to see how people aren't seeing the longer term big picture and how losing draft picks will hurt us. Unfortunately this is what we've done repeatedly - end of season short term runs but not making the playoffs. The way we're playing now, we won't get a good draft pick so we'll be stuck with the team we have +/- a couple of players. Will a few months together next year turn the Canucks into a playoff ready team - only time will tell.
  6. From the Iain MacIntyre article: I felt the weight of Iain saying Bedard is a generational player, because not getting him will change our future path. I'm still not convinced we aren't doing a Boudreau all over again with a good end of season and then terrible start of next season. All these wins will be meaningless if we can't gain momentum next year. Can we get out of being a middling team that can't get into the playoffs and having bad starts and good finishes? Yay team building but at what price??
  7. I'd agree on most points. I think Garland at 6 mil isn't good because he'd be a 40 pt player earning a 50+ pt player salary. Garland has really only had 4 years in the NHL despite him being 27. In 3 of 4 years his pts were around 40, while last year he had 52. It's likely at 27 years old he'll continue to hover around 40 rather than over 50. Garland is getting 4mil this year, but next year goes up to 6mil. Does he warrant almost the same as Boeser if he's scoring at least 10-15 points less? Boeser has had 6 years in the NHL and is 26. Boeser was a 55 pt player for 2 seasons then dipped by 5-10 pts for 3 seasons, and now he'll likely end up with 50+ pts. Boeser looked like he could be a routine 30pt scorer, which he was in 2017. IF Boeser had scored closer to 30 goals ( instead of 14 ) he would end up with around 66pts. Theoretically Boeser could rebound next year and up his scoring while maintaining his assists and become a 65 pt guy. Can he make the move from a mid 50s pt guy to a mid 60s pt guy? Consider what other 60-65 pt players are making: Pavel Buchnevich age 27 5.5 mil 62pts, Elias Lindholm age 28 $3,850,000 62pts ( but scored over 80 pts last year ), Mark Scheifele age 30 $5,500,000 62pts, Sebastian Aho age 25 $6,000,000 61pts ( but reached over 80 two years ). Aleksander Barkov is a 66 pt player, making $12 mil ( but reached 88pts last year )
  8. Yeah I think even moving two pieces could make a huge difference. Andrei Kuzmenko, Ilya Mikheyev, and Anthony Beauvillier are three players we've added who have really impacted our team and changed how we can build next year. I do wonder what we'll do about our goalies next year, because Spencer Martin was a bust as a no#1 goalie but is he better or worse than Delia?
  9. I'm starting to watch the Canucks games again, because they're playing a game worth watching. Darn!! There goes team Tank Can they take this team play into the next season when it will really matters? Playing a good 25 games when it doesn't matter wont cut it anymore. 10 years of this routine. Not much point being on team tank now, but still think they'll need to make significant moves to get themselves in the playoffs next. year.
  10. I'm not sure why anyone would debate this, because the Canucks have been following the same behaviour for years. Short runs that leave just outside the playoffs. The idea that teams plays the same at the beginning of the season compared to the end of the season is hard to debate in my opinion for the points you've made. Playoff bound teams are on cruise control and non-playoff teams are tanking and we're in the middle neither tanking or making the playoffs. And Demko winning us games which continues to hide our terrible D play.
  11. Sums up how I feel about the situation as well. Until we actually have a consistent season instead of short runs in March we'll never be a playoff team again. Personally I'd like to see us get back to the Glory days when we were top of our Division and went on playoff runs.
  12. What's the Canucks' long term strategy or plan? With our current run our chances of getting Bedard draft lottery simulator Tankathon puts us at 6% chance of getting Bedard. Is the strategy now to work on current team chemistry and building a more structured system and figuring out what playing style suits our team chemistry? What's the path to get out of 10+ years of mediocrity where we have short runs that fall just short of making the playoffs? Right now betting sites like Power Ranking Guru have us at ZERO% chance of making the playoffs (14 points out of a Wild card spot with 13 games left ), but also little chance of getting Bedard - so what's the plan?
  13. Not getting off team tank no matter if they win all remaining games or not. Unless they somehow pull off some magic and actually get into the playoffs and win a 1st round, then this middling roller coaster ride will just continue next year and beyond. The Canucks have got to start thinking in extremes to make a big difference. They have to make it into the playoffs this year or tank, but anything else is just signaling that the Canucks management doesn't get it.
  14. So is this the game that costs them the tank race? And anyone getting excited again about the Canucks might think about last year where they went on a run where they still didn't make the playoffs. Is this really the team that's going to get us into the playoffs or even advance beyond the first round?
  15. The perfect Tank. Play from behind, play harder in the 2nd and 3rd but no overtime points. At least it was a decent game to watch even though the Bruins clearly had put their foot off the gas after being up 2-0. 1st time in Bruins history that a goalie scored a goal? That can't be true?! More games like these - good efforts but keep the tank moving ( On my birthday no less! )
  16. Honestly not sure if you're being sarcastic or not! We've had a mediocre team for the past 10+ years, so I'm not going to get worried if they're mediocre next year. It would be great to see the Canucks management try something different than patching holes with temporary fixes though.
  17. Exactly. It makes no sense why they did it mid season. It's like they didn't learn their lesson from doing the same thing with Bruce Boudreau. It's just delaying the inevitable - below average team not making the playoffs again.
  18. I'm definitely still team tank. I'd really like to see what we can do with a good pick next year. We need a real shake up not just the current team chemistry ( because will it really get us out of the mid level teams? )
  19. Now I'm confused. I'm actually liking some of the new pieces they've put in place, so wondering if the chemistry they're building now is worth more than tanking this season? Even if we do fully tank, will we really get a great player? I was all team tank, but also kind of seeing some potential with the team chemistry right now.
  20. I feel like the collective shift to Team Tank has made it more enjoyable to be on the Canucks forum now. People aren't getting upset anymore at the Canucks losing, so less moaning and groaning. Who knew not giving a sh!t would make (sports) life easier!
  21. It is a tricky situation, but we also have to consider how many years of having bad players taking spots where good players could play. But yes, let's not get in a worse mess.
  22. IF the Canucks were able to not lose games after giving up 5 goals, then I'd agree that the PPG matters. Unfortunately, he's been terrible defensively, so it offsets his offensive production and frankly yes has cost Canucks games. I'd happy for him to be a success, but he's got to get make smarter passing decisions and get back on plays. The Canucks shouldn't have signed him for such a long contract, so it's not just his defensive play that's the issue, it's that long term contracts like his have been an albatross on the Admin's necks.
  23. Well they can get rid of Miller, OEL, and Myers, but it will cost them. Still better to get them onto another team because they just cost us games now.
  24. When you blow it by signing Miller, OEL, and Myers to crap long term deals, so you trade away one of your best players in Horvat. Give away the other 3 and keep Horvat. Still would have been a better team.
  25. I agree with most of what you've said. My original post was about the timing and I'm still unclear on why they'd make the switch now since it will likely impact the sweeps. I'm not clear on what trading Horvat will bring that is actually better than we already have in Horvat. That part remains to be seen.
