[GDT] Nucks @ Sharks - Jan 29 2020 - 7:30PM Pacific - SNET

I predict this game will be feistier than Edm-Calg that the media can't stop talking about -
But why be so concerned about the perspective of the players? Yes you are probably right.. but the team won't sign Marky on a 7-8 year deal the same way they won't sign Tanev for 5M+. So it's really up to the players if they stay or go. This is why I voted trade Tanev at deadline (but realistically it won't happen if we are anywhere near WC and he will just walk in the off season if he is looking for $$).

Here you go C - Horvat (5.5M), Petey (0.925), Sutter (4.375), Beagle (3), Gaud (2) = $15.8 million (roster: 5/22) W - Boes (5.875), JT (5.25), Virt (3), Pearson (3.75), Rooster (3), Loui (6), Motte (1.05), Ferland (3.5) = $31.43 million (roster: 13/22) D - Edler (6), Tanev (5), Huggy (0.92), Myers (6), Benn (2), Rafferty (0.7), Juolevi (0.86) = $21.48 million (roster: 20/22) G - Marky (5.4), Demko (1.05) = $6.45 million Buried / Buyout / Recapture Sven (2.29) / Spooner (1.03) / Lu (3.03) = $6.35 million For a total of $81.5 million, under today's salary cap. Bold are players that would be under new contracts. edit: sorry forgot potential 4.5M in cap overage from this year but this is still players getting substantial raises. Yes if we really are so inclined to keep both Tanev and Marky we may need to move an asset out with Baer, or just trade Sutter. Basically we need to lose one player who makes over 3.5M.. big deal..

Well you said he was not comparable to Benn or Fanta.. is that not saying that you think those guys are better? Edit: I also don't get the comments from you and other's about "risk". If we took a hypothetical situation where you roll a 3 sided die and one of Fanta, Benn, Stech are moved in place of Tryamkin, where is the risk in that? It's like saying when we signed Fanta this summer that we were taking a risk because he might not have been an NHL caliber defenseman..
-
Really? Your answer to why you like Fanta, Benn and Stecher more is that they have played more games? Gubdranson has played more than all of them combined so I guess you must really miss him eh? And we should probably be going after Hamhuis, Keith, Seabrook too they must be the best defensemen in the game right now having played over 1000! Well that's pretty much the reason Myers plays more minutes than any of those guys.. I think he supplants them because we have enough quick puck moving d-men on the roster. As physical as you guys say Benn and Fanta are, they are nowhere close to the dominating dmen many teams have - that are especially noticeable when playoffs come around. Really if you look at their strengths, they are puck-moving dmen just like Stecher, and saying that is their best strength isn't exactly a compliment. Tryamkin could be a difference maker in games and the Canucks need that to make any kind of run. You are never going to get that from any of those three guys.

The Markstom situation is definitely a difficult one. And I'm still not sold on him being an "elite" goalie as people are saying. To me anything north of $5M is going to feel like a bit of an over-payment (assuming his play is similar for the rest of the year), so I do agree with you to some extent. And IMO Tryamkin doesn't need to be a top four dman to have a significant impact (at least compared to Stecher, Fantenburg or Benn - who all average 15-16mins of icetime).

Would you like to see Kesler in the Ring of Honour?

what? I would say the answer to respecting a juggler who kills children is a hard NO So then you're saying I should apply the same logic to my respect of a determined player, of a sport I love, who supposedly was a d*** sometimes outside the game? Please elaborate.. -

Play hard enough, with a ton of passion, and contribute significantly to the team's success (particularly in key situations), be a decent teammate = you get your name up there, despite some off-ice issues? Yeah what an awful precedent.... -

I actually agree with you; but to tell a person who only values on-ice performance (which I also think is fine - the main point of sport is to win) that it is a must in order to be considered for the ROH, I don't agree with. A lasting impact can be made in many ways. Nowhere in the Canucks ROH does it state that it needs to be a combination of on-ice performance/off-ice contributions. -
In 2012, I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Wyatt Arndt on a project I will never forget. When he announced he was doing Fake Canucks Hockey, I volunteered to provide video+live stream services. I promised him that I would release this content one day

Exactly.. I remember that series against Nashville almost better than any other because of how he played. Not to mention we were possibly could not have made the SCF that year without those efforts. To me, that's making a lasting impact.
