  1. Sure, but I don't see why you're digging so far into it.. my point is simple - them sitting the year HAS to be an option for management (even if you don't want to think about that), because the only alternative is caving to whatever their demands are, aka handing them both a blank chq
  2. It has to be an option because otherwise you are saying that once the season gets going we should just give them both a blank chq.. THAT is definitely not an option
  3. When you say I devalued a guy but simply stating how many games he has played and his point totals.... I have a feeling that you're the one being biased here
  4. I think it's a bit too early to say this.. Boeser was dealing with some pretty significant $&!# that summer, and still inked his deal before preseason started. So maybe that will also the case with Petey & Huggy, and you can say it is similar (in a good way), or they won't sign before preseason, which means what they are doing isn't really similar to Boeser at all (in a bad way). aka, IMO if a player signs before preseason games start, I see nothing wrong with them holding out till then. holding out past that is when I feel the player is being unreasonable
  5. That strategy makes sense, UNTIL the season starts.. then as the player sees their teammates playing games, suddenly they aren't quite on the same page as their agent who doesn't care if they sign in Sep, or Nov. Petey/Huggy are being stupid if they really think waiting till the season is upon us is going to get them that extra $0.5-1m they are looking for
  6. Marner signed his deal coming off two straight seasons not missing a single game. 26G-68A-94P in the year right before signing the deal... Petey has not played a single full season, and even if you extrapolate his seasons to 82gp, his totals are nowhere near 94P. So yeah enjoy the year off Petey if you think Marner is your comparable
  7. Why do you say that? there are more and more rumours pointing to Hugg 8x8 and Pete 8x3
  8. I thought 3 would take them to UFA. And either way, you asked why people think the deals won't get done, and I answered... I don't see how you can disagree with anything I said and the fact that you only replied to the fact that I mentioned we have 2 such players, ignoring all the actual meat of the comment, pretty much proves that
  9. lmao so you would pay him $1-3 million more than guys like Aho, Crosby, Malkin, Barzal.. and what Eichel is making? why??
  10. The fact that there are 2 of them was really not the point of my comment.. like at all.. Oh and give them deals walking them straight to UFA? Great idea!
  11. Because teams are already getting together for skates and so most people would think that a player would like to be under contract rather than have that hanging over their head while they try to get geared up for the start of camp. https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2022/points/all/all/rfa 13 guys left, only a handful of top end players. We have 2 of them. Compare that to the long list of RFAs who signed in July/Aug, and it's not exactly a stretch to say that there is a good chance they don't hammer out a deal in the next week. The fact that it takes a few hours to do so means nothing and I'm pretty sure you understand that.
  12. Not quite the same.. negotiations are much more about finding middle ground. Arbitration on the other hand is all about pushing solely your side of the story, and ignoring the other side, because you literally need to convince the arbitrator that what the other side is asking/offering is unreasonable.
  13. What are these #'s to you? What they will be signed for before the season? Maybe they cave halfway through the year and take these deals but I can't see them agreeing to those this month. Also, doesn't the 3yr deal walk Petey right to FA which isn't even good for the team either?
  14. I see it the completely opposite way.. the longer WE wait, the more they'll be itching to play hockey and finally agree to team friendly deals.
  15. Couturier (8*$7.75), Landeskog (8*$7), Svechnikov (8*$7.75), Barzal (3*$7) - maybe not direct comparables, but I would swap Petey for Svech or Barzal in a heartbeat. For him to want anything close to $9m is absolutely ridiculous.
  16. They will? He asked for Tofu back and they didn't even bother to make him an offer...
  17. Seems like it's more newsworthy these days if someone actually wants to STAY in Columbus...
  18. I get that but are we a contender already? If we trade away our 2022 1st rounder are you confident it'll be basically an early 2nd like TB can be? I just find it difficult to imagine that we win the cup with Hogs & Pod being the only players in the lineup on their ELC's.. sure, you could argue that TB doesn't have that, but their current roster is also $15m over the cap...
  19. So... we need two players that usually cost upwards of $20mil to have on a roster.... exactly why we need guys on ELCs (such as a player we draft at 9OA) to pan out and step in in a few years time, instead of trading them away
  20. Kinda exactly my point.... when a team needs to trade away 3 1st rounders (one of which has already proven to be a very promising player) to "open the window", that means said team is not yet competitive enough.. half the teams in the league could trade away their future like that and "open their window"..
  21. What pick would you trade down for to be comfortable that he'd still be on the board but also not be a huge reach? My dream scenario is that we somehow turn the 9OA into Lambos & Raty
  22. Exactly... and people seem eager for us to repeat the same mistakes. It's really not hard to see the way that teams that have won the cup over the last few decades are built.. very few of them involved trading away consecutive 1st rounders, 2nd rd last year etc., to get there. In fact, many of them were won on the backs of guys on ELC's - aka the exact guy that could be drafted at 9 OA that people want to trade away
  23. Again, what's the point of this comment? try to stick to actual discussion
  24. Ok now were getting somewhere... if you think we're that close to being a cup contender, then yes we can agree to disagree there. Even so, keep in mind most teams don't require trading away their best picks for years in a row to compete for the cup. Not that I'm against sacrificing the future if it actually does bring a cup W (btw - I don't mean that JT or Cernak contracts is what will cripple us - but a lack of top quality prospects 5 years from now)
  25. Lol.... I'll never understand why people make comments like this... it's a discussion forum. if you're short on time then don't peruse a forum of a team that has been golfing for two months maybe? or block me... I'll continue to speak my mind because that is literally the whole reason I'm here
