  1. So, let me get this straight.  I go to Safeway’s/Sobey’s and buy 200g of sliced ham wrapped in plastic, a loaf of bread in a plastic bag, two litres of milk in a plastic jug, a package of napkins wrapped in plastic, a tossed salad in a plastic container, a plastic bottle of mustard and a plastic bottle of ketchup, and they won’t give me a plastic bag to carry it all home because the plastic bag is bad for the environment?

@Dazzle That's partly my point.  Why are municipalities even banning plastic bags?  Is it really part of their mandate in running a municipality?  If plastic bags are as bad as they say, let's ban them federally.  And let's include all sorts of other measures to really address the issue instead of all this patchwork of different bans in different places.  It can be done.  It just takes the political will to do so.

The Safeway that I shop at doesn't have plastic bags to carry groceries. It's either a paper bag, or a reusable bag, which you pay for. I agree far too much stuff is covered in plastic.

I do prefer my mustard and ketchup in soggy paper bottles.
