  1. Now that it don't matter no how, I hope annihilate the Coyotes. 8 - 0 Myers gets a hat trick. And Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong is impressed, he gets him for nothing from us before the bonus kicks in.
  2. Come on folks. We all knew we'd fall down to 10th or 11th. That's the Canucks Way. Thats' why I laugh at those who were fretting about it. As a long time Canucks fan, I've learned to accept the curse of this franchise for awhile now. Maybe we can volunteer Drance to be a sacrifice to the Hockey Gods to move up. Silver lining for tonight at least. Not much difference between 3 and 3.5. We can cheer them on for a win in their final game! Go Canucks Go!
  3. We need the Natural Law Party of Canada to take this manifestation on. RIP Doug Henning.
  4. yeah must be nice. Studnicka in the article. He's 24, and casually thinks about maybe finding a house with a yard in Kitsilano. One of the most expensive real estate neighbourhoods in North America. No problem. Just pick one out for sale you like and buy it. Easy.
  5. Arguably, Petey and Quinn both might be taken in the top three at the draft, if GMs had their glasses on that could see into the future. It doesn't matter how you get them, or where they officially were taken. Just how elite a level they can rise to. And I'd say both are budding superstars. And if Demko is back in form, and with Mik and Kuz and Hronek added, as well as Podz, Hogz, a lot of younger talent infused recently, we have already improved on that secondary scoring and defense, more than Benning ever could manage.
  6. Meh...I think most fans follow and support pundits who we agree with, and dis on those we disagree with. We can even not like them, then like them, then not like them again. etc.. Like I agree with this concern he raised. No reason to play Hughes near the top of the ice time leaders of the league. Or give other top players so much ice time vs. development of younger players. But I disgreed with his whining about not suddenly initiating a full rebuild when we were already smack dab in the middle of a retool. A rebuild made sense in Bennings era, where once again I agreed with his criticisms of Benning's disastrous beating of a dead orca over and over. But Drance is an idiot if he thinks its even plausible to strip everything down after last Summer's acquisitions. Now with Hronek, its a retool or bust. Accept it and move on.
  7. First just want to add my thanks to the mods and admins and everyone who contributes here. We are all fans. We wouldn't be here if we weren't. Even if we have different opinions on just how we go about working towards landing the Holy Grail, that is what we all want for Vancouver. I certainly have no ill feelings towards anyone I have argued with based on their opinions on a hockey team. Never blocked anyone and never will. We are all Canucks. Now, can anyone tell me: Will it matter if they lose or win tonight as far as their draft position? Can they fall below another team, or is it set now regardless? Because it sure would be nice to be able to cheer on a win for their final game of the season....like 100% cheering, not this horrible kind of contradictory support where it almost feels guilty to feel happy when they score and especially if they win a game and add another 2 points to their tally. gawd it sucks to be in this position as a fan. I hope we don't experience this for a long time again. Go Canucks Go!
  8. Boston management are masters of the Retool on the fly Benning did not perform long in that organization for a reason So he came to Vancouver on a Boston reputation and convinced Aquaman that he had the secret sauce for a quick turnaround.
  9. Okay. I thought the total cap savings was the important number. But what do I know. Wait a year and 4.2 more to spend, distributed however, beginning next summer. And we are also done with OELs penalty one year sooner down side is we live with OEL for one more season. But the way I figure it we aren’t headed to the SCF next season anyways. We can carry him a year if we get other help for our top pairings
  10. It looks like it’s actually about a 4.2 million total cap savings if we waited another year buyout this summer His total cap hit is 20,533,336 buyout next summer His total cap hit is 16,353,334 https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/oliver-ekman-larsson
  11. OEL buyout saves 7 million IF we wait one season. I believe buying out this summer only saves about 2 million edit: which is why I say wait one year
  12. lol. We'll send a clip package to any of those stealth tanking teams GMs looking to reach the basement. Titled: The Best of Chaos Giraffe's Gaffes.
  13. Ha. I actually was thinking the same thing after the "talk to Vancouver" comment. JR and Allvin had already decided on keeping JT over Bo. I still can't believe Bo got 8.5 x 8 though. But maybe we should send more love to Bruce thereitis Boudreau for this development. If it wasn't for his pond hockey "system", his "just go out there and have fun" approach, and Tocchet had been brought in at the start of the season, to clamp down, Bo probably would never had the goal totals he had. And so, would not be offered anywhere near that amount. Wouldn't price himself out of our market here and would have decided to accept the 7 x 7 final offer from JR. And sorry, but Bo is not what is best for the team going forward. And I'll tell you that for free.
  14. They definitely kept the right player. Imagine if you will.........for some strange reason the Islanders were open to trading Bo right away this Summer. And the Canucks are also with Miller. Both JT and Bo are starting long high priced contracts. Bo's is an extra half mill higher and a year longer, but if you take into consideration the age difference, it is pretty even in cost. Who do you think would get the most takers? Rhetorical question, I think we all know the answer. On another point, I also have thought of the idea of a Burroughs - OEL third paring, for one season. If we are keeping OEL, and I think we should for at least one more season, as we'd save an extra 7 mill against the cap by next summer, than if we did it ahead of this season. Hopefully Myers is dealt. But it may work out great. OEL was drafted as a prime offensive defenseman. Because the Canucks have been such a dismal defensive team for years, OEL's role was NOT to push his offensive but to concentrate on defense. Partnering with our best defensive D might free him up to reignite his offensive capabilities. If hes going to be here anyways, Burroughs might be the perfect fit for him.
  15. See, that is where my eye test tells me the exact opposite opinion. Not only does he think the game fast, by clearing the puck away from trouble, he most times does not make blind desperate passed to no one.....usually the other team like another long neck D we won't mention. He almost always finds a forward and gets the puck to him. The one thing I've become sick of watching the Canucks do over the last decade is handing the puck right back to the offensive team in our zone after we've finally recovered it. It became an epidemic to go alongside the real one. Burroughs stood out to me immediately as a counter to that trend. He has the ability to not only recover the puck but sees the ice so well, and get it on the stick of a teammate quick. Thats what I see. Each to their own I guess.
  16. I see a much tougher, efficient, smart defenceman than Biega. Tocchet plays him with Hughes for a reason. Trust. We'll see this off season. If Tocchet and Allvin see the same value in him enough to try and re-sign him. Make no mistake, I agree that Burroughs is no more than a depth D on an elite contending team. But that's not what we are today. On this team, he's an exceptional third pair D who can play up the lines if needed. And we are not going to the SCF anytime soon. And at a great cap hit, which also should be a huge consideration.
  17. Folks should stop listening to the roaring silence of support for Burroughs on local sports media, and watch the games. I don't know exactlly what else you could possibly want for a third pairing D. He fights, he's pysical, one of the few we have. But more than that, he is simple and effective. He recovers the puck fast. Uses his body to shield it and gets it to a forward better than anyone not named Hughes. Try to count how many mistakes with the puck, or with positioning, he makes in a game. You won't find many. Tanev also didn't get much love here at first. Ironically, concentrating too much on defence, is not something that is respected much by a lot of fans for a defenceman. It is an unsung skill. But on a high offence team like ours, we need the balance of one or two steady defensive D who will allow our more offensive stars to shine. Tocchet picks Burroughs more and more to pair with Hughes. Call me crazy, but I like that pairing. There's a reason why Schenn worked with Hughes, and Burroughs is a younger, quicker version. I know, I know, there are better options that JR will work on, but from my eye test at least, Kyle is a keeper for our third pair. Who can move up when needed. And bonus...he can play on either side. He's also great for the cap. He'd probably sign for 1 or 1.5. So we could afford the eventual permanent partner for Quinn.
  18. This is as good as any place. I just wanted to say WOW! Petey has blown me away this season. A waste that we can't see him do his magic in the playoffs this year. I'm not talking about his point total. I'm talking about his defensive prowess. And also his ability to snatch the puck away from defenders, to avoid getting checked. His thinner frame requires him to be smarter with the puck to survive. And he's a friicken genius at it. So stoked he's a Canuck. And hopefully after the Summer he'll be signed as a long time Canuck!
  19. I interpreted all of his unwarranted minutes to management polishing him up for market. Playing him visible minutes. Trying to get his numbers up as much as they can before season's end. He's been so snake bitten. Seems to get a lot of chances but no finish.
