[GDT/PGT] Canucks @ Kings - Sep 21st 2019 - 6PM from Salt Lake City Utah
kilgore replied to xereau's topic in Canucks Talk
Disappointed that Teves hasn't had another game. He was brilliant in the last one. I've seen enough from Sautner and Brisebois -
No one "hates" Jake. Its just frustrating, as others have said. I think Travis purposely put Jake into a back to back game, including travel from Calgary to Vancouver, to test his commitment to consistency. By my eye test he disappeared in that second game at home. Sadly predictable. I just don't get it. Interesting also that even though he got two goals in Calgary, including the winner in OT, he was not named as ANY of the three stars. Now I know that doesn't mean much to him or Green, and I don't know if the 3 stars were picked by Calgary homers, but its still a bit telling. I watched that game and I agree with that. He seems to only push it into second gear when there is a breakdown in the game and he is in a position to take advantage of a situation. Which isn't a bad thing, I'd just like to see him force the issue and create his own "situations" more often, and more consistently. We hear it all the time. The league is getting faster. I think that also includes fast THINKERS of the game, to match the physical speed. That's where I am unsure of how much Virtanen excels. This is why a player like Burrows was so successful. He wasn't the fastest skater, or the biggest, or the most skilled, but he thought the game very quickly, and knew just where to be when, including where a particular Sedin would be at any one time. Add hustle you have a winning formula. And hustle is only possible when you have those hockey smarts. They depend on each other. I think mental quickness bodes well for being more physically engaged. If you are thinking one step behind others, you probably will also be physically one step behind. No matter how much faster you are as a skater. I don't want to have this opinion, but my patience is running out. But I'm willing to allow some more time to let Jake change my mind.

Breakout game for Gaudette
-
Ray's kid is working hard out there
-
Teves deserves another game.

Love the hustle in the line of Gaudette, Jasek, and........ Eriksson?
-
That's the kind of hustle we all expected from Schaller when he got here. Can he keep it going?

It feels like the Canucks have finally got a more balanced team. Not particularly tough, but not soft anymore. Add Rousell, and hopefully Tryamkin either at the end of this season or start of the next. Tram isn't a fighter, but like Myers, his size alone can be intimidating. I believe that its a cumulative effect on the team as a whole. And how much the boys can play a "team toughness". You don't need every player to be a goon. All you need is a tipping point of a few more aggressive, bigger players to make the other more skill players to feel comfortable, and have a little more bravado themselves by osmosis. And I think we finally have that culture being developed. Would have liked to have kept Luke Schenn (@ 700k), at least until Tram comes back, but can't have everything I guess.

Tippett trying to get an advantage in the Pacific before the season even starts. I hope Hughes heals soon. Those are dirty underhanded slashes that refs miss a lot. You can break ribs that way. How that sob Hanzel ended Henriks Ironman streak.

Player agents. Where mob lawyers go when they get fired

Preseason sure ain't the same as in the 70's

A delightful surprise to find an acquisition come in this time, like Miller and play as advertised. Only one pre-game but he looks like a smart player. Great to see Bo rewarded with some real talent to play with. I thought Teves looked good, even before his goal. Good signing by JB on the one year entry for him. We can always use more scoring defense.

Bo knows its not over!

Teves is one of the standouts. Worked hard all game.

Seattle Expansion Draft - Who do the Canucks protect?
kilgore replied to lukchin's topic in Canucks Talk
What sucks is that for the Canucks, the ED will be at the most inconvenient time, in a hockey franchise's cycle. Just when we are finally building DEPTH. Other teams may be just at the edge of a rebuild. Its perfect for them, they probably have a lot of overpriced washed up veterans they want to dump. We will just be peaking with hopefully, a large cupboard of depth players. The best of which may be scooped away, right as we are planning on a longer playoff run. #canuckluck -
I do hope he bounces back. An actual 20 goal output, or something close, would be fantastc. And I'm willing to give him yet another chance to prove himself . But its a short leash. I don't know how it can't be at this point. You are right, i think its a loss of confidence. It seemed to start right off the bat after he scored that own-goal. And I think he felt the pressure of that 6 x 6 contract he had to live up to. But come on, Louie, its been three full seasons since that cursed goal. Like you said "He's been given a lot of opportunities to prove himself". Thinking he is always in a "catch up" phase is on him. Other players have bad years but find it in themselves to bounce back. If he needs a shrink, fine. What I, and probably others, have been waiting to see is more passion. If he wants to regain his confidence on the ice DO SOMETHING. I'd rather see him do things outside his element, even make mistakes because of it, get caught out of position...hit more even if its not your "forte", crash the net, have an opponent get mad at you for something. ie...look like you want to be here. There's still too much to lose giving up on him right now, or more accurately....not enough to gain. It doesn't make much sense cap wise. Especially if he can be a premier defensive player for us, who can pot a goal once in awhile. I would revisit that in a couple of months into the season. But even if just as depth we can call up from Utica if it comes down to that. Heck, maybe playing in Utics would be the best thing for his confidence.

Pettersson more comfortable entering second season with Canucks
kilgore replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
He's a shoo-in. Experienced too. No wonder management is dragging their feet, they're waiting for him. The only captain that can pat the tops of his team mate's helmets without hardly reaching up. -
Have you seen the new Fin?!
-
I hope you are right Alf. I don't want him to make the team either. But I just don't know if the organization has the balls to do it before the season starts. Louie can turn it on...if he wants to. So I predict that with the added pressure of all the talk of sending him down, and the increase in competition for spots, and the pressure of reviving some degree of respect after all the criticism, ...that he'll "want to" for training camp and preseason. He won't be the best, but he could fight his way onto the third or fourth line. And for the organization, they really don't want to give up on the money player before giving him one last shot. An active NHL player is also easier to move, especially if he's at least doing the little things.
-
Was the article overblown....indubitably. I didn't see much wrong with what he said. He's frustrated. But saying that, he put it all on himself. No, I don't blame him for being offered the money, but when he was shaking JB's hand, did he know that he was losing interest in hockey?.....and still shook JBs hand? And for a SIX freekin year deal? That would p me off knowing that. It sure seems like it. That's okay, players, at different times, leave hockey and some never look back. Higgins admitted he just wasn't that interested in playing anymore in his last season here. His passion for the game had dried up. It seems like Louie is in that same boat based on his level of participation and passion. But committing to a franchise for six years knowing that about yourself? Not good Louie. I think he'll make the team, and get yet another chance. if only because Aquilini would not like to have 6 million in Utica, and JB only gets a million in cap relief. But (I hope) its on a short leash. Ideally, if he doesn't have a renaissance year, which is highly unlikely, he will be sent down to Utica, and after a few bus rides, with a bunch of smelly loud kids, leave the rest of his contract on the table and head to Sweden.

Okay, makes a little more sense. Still he's long gone. And no matter how much another Leaf goalie admired him, why would he have another goalie represented on his own mask? Would've worked great for the Eagle himself though.
-
LOL. So let me get this straight, the Leafs main image is an American Bald Eagle, (at least it is associated with the US more) And the Maple Leaf, an iconic Canadian symbol represented on our flag, is reduced into feathers of a bird? What a joke. . .

I agree. Goalies on teams that have animals as logos should take advantage of that. I always thought some designer could improve on this idea. Make the orca more fierce and realistic.
